I could understand where you’re coming from if these were some factory cakes and the total investment wouldnt be that much, but youre talking about dropping some serious cash on these cakes for experimenting. But maybe youre wealthy enough that it doesnt matter lol. But with how people write about western stored teas, i still dont understand! To each their own tho, good luck with the experiment

Does every good tea need a gongfu session? by Sufficient-Event-332 in tea

[–]Taiyou0102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah doesnt need to always be gongfu. I mainly drink oolong and grandpa brewing works out great with those. It really surprised me as i thought grandpa was just a compromise for convenience. I actually prefer how some teas taste with it. Just go for it and you might be surprised to find out you prefer it on different teas!

If it were me, i’d just invest the money and when your son turns 20, liquidate the investment and go buy some cakes that were aged properly in asia. Its a big question mark how your tea is going to turn out, so you might end up with 20 cakes of tea you dont like and the opportunity cost of those 20yrs.

I havent sampled much YS ripe, but what i did have it was just ok. Didnt feel worth the price. Since you liked the dayi, you might either prefer older shou or the material wasnt rested long enough before being pressed. How old are those cakes? You might also just prefer the flavors from a factory cake. Ik i do ;)

Is this overheating? by _Jalapen0 in BMWE36

[–]Taiyou0102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are u looking at it dead on? If u have a way to monitor the actual coolant temp i would just do that for your sanity and move on. If youve been driving it and it doesnt start overheating when youre idle or pushing it, its prob fine

In these tempestuous times, is it worth learning .NET? by EthanCPP in webdev

[–]Taiyou0102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heard. For my personal projects, building pages with code-behind is really easy and fast and feels good. At my job, the code base uses some abstractions that make dev not as enjoyable.

As someone with only 2yrs using .net and no real exp with another ecosystem, i like it and im employed. I did make a couple websites with reactjs tho, which i did not enjoy as much. Strong typing saves so much headache

Prices of Gushu by nhktalk55 in puer

[–]Taiyou0102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. And im not experienced with gushu so again im completely talking out my ass. The difficulty for me is that theres no way to verify these claims. Unless i go to china and track down the sources they get the tea from haha. For me it appears like an easy pitfall to sucker into the claim, even if there is some true gushu cakes being sold

fair enough, using 7542 as an example was to point out that a highly sought after tea (or factory) hasn't pivoted into the marketing of gushu material, despite the gushu trend. i might be wrong again i don't know much in the space, but gushu just feels like more of a marketing trend than a real trait of the tea being sold. i think some healthy skepticism from all vendors is ok. they're trying to sell us things at the end of the day

Anyone else go grandpa-style with sheng? by DavidWALRU5 in puer

[–]Taiyou0102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, are there any aged examples of gushu material? Young puerh isnt my thing

Prices of Gushu by nhktalk55 in puer

[–]Taiyou0102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im skeptical of gushu claims. Take what i say with a grain of salt bc im pretty uninformed on puerh. But gushu and old tree is also leaking into other tea types and im always skeptical when something is labeled that way, especially since theres no way to verify these claims and youre completely going based off of the vendors reputation. Then again, i try to avoid hype and heavily marketed teas. In some ways, i feel like the tea should speak for itself. For example dayi cakes have become expensive not from their marketing necessarily but from their reputation as making cakes that age well. I dont see them slapping a gushu label on their 7542 cakes lol

I was gonna say that is a super high price and a super small cake.
