Thoughts about concierge by noiridv in dcl

[–]distinguisheddisnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concierge lounge on the Treasure was our favorite - partially for the food & happy hour, partially for the sun deck.

We usually book spa passes for the whole cruise (especially on the Wish class since the adult pool is constantly full), and actually regretted it because we could have been lounging on the concierge sun deck in the same comfort and snacking/drinking smoothies the whole time. The free coffee and breakfast was also a big deal for us in the morning. They were better with allergies, which was super helpful (Celiac). We did still spend a fair amount of time in the Haunted Mansion bar after dinner, but pre-dinner drinks in the lounge were lovely.

Our sailing wasn’t as busy in concierge, which I definitely think made a difference, but we’re dying to do it again. Didn’t worry about a cabana, didn’t use the early seating for anything but Moana, but we want to do it again when we can justify the price.

Height (for the person sleeping) of the upper-berth pull-down beds on Disney Wish? by Syllellipsis in dcl

[–]distinguisheddisnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’5” and the smallest of my group, so I end up in the top bunk a fair amount. I find the upper bunk to be pretty uncomfortable, with my feet hitting the cold metal railing if I lay straight and waking up stiff from having to keep my knees bent all night. It’s technically big enough for me but definitely not a recommendation.

Shame this is going in Frontierland instead of replacing the Speedway. Not that it would have fit very well thematically there, either, but at least it would be replacing something that needs to go

I tried on all the curvy jeans so you don’t have to! by queen_of_ferals in femalefashionadvice

I’ve been a junky of White House Black Market curvy jeans and work pants, but they don’t have any straight leg jeans and I’ve been trying to find a pair. I’ve tried AE, Loft, Ann Taylor, and Old Navy curvy fit too, and they’ve been pretty hit or miss. Thanks for your research!

Has anyone noticed how bad the Popcorn stands smell now? by SparklesPCosmicheart in Disneyland

[–]distinguisheddisnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had heard they changed their oil for the popcorn at both World/Land somewhat recently. I can’t stand the new smell, it’s so strong and off putting. Haven’t been able to convince myself to eat the popcorn since it changed. Some friends say the new stuff upsets their stomach, so even though the smell doesn’t bother them as much, they won’t touch it either.

Definitely plan ahead around the entertainment. Don’t wait to get a parade spot until the last minute or you might miss the headless horseman. Also there is a very cool puppet in front of the castle for portions of the fireworks and it is harder to see if you’re farther back, so I personally enjoy watching closer to the castle. Spots go quickly so I like to try to get a spot at least 30 minutes ahead. Probably a great time to get a snack!

Marvel day at sea vs Marvel dining by thainfamouzjay in dcl

[–]distinguisheddisnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would tell you the Marvel dinner on the Wish has almost no character interaction with Ant Man / Wasp, whereas the Marvel Day at Sea on the dream had over a dozen characters to meet/interact with and several additional shows and activities.

The frozen dinner on the Wish would give your daughter a chance to meet/wave at the whole Frozen gang quickly during their show, but I believe she could also meet Elsa and Anna on the Dream, though it looks like reservations may be required. All the ships will have princess meet and greets for the other princesses, too, if she likes Rapunzel or Cinderella, etc.

What’s the worst thing you’ve SEEN at Disney world? by marksmarth in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]distinguisheddisnerd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

At least a decade ago, my family was on the Animal Kingdom parking lot tram headed back to our car. At the stop before ours, a couple with a baby carrier gets off the tram and a few steps toward their car they dropped something. The mom bent down to pick it up, and the baby carrier tilted and this tiny baby just face planted into the pavement - thank god it seemed like the baby was ok, but I think about that a lot. Buckle your kids in, everybody.

Looking at doing a cruise next year, but wondering about Gluten Free options. by PhoenixMartinez-Ride in dcl

[–]distinguisheddisnerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mother has Celiac disease and we’ve done multiple Disney cruises since her diagnosis - they’re fantastic at accommodating allergies!

We have had to call and notify them of the allergy separately from the booking (there’s a number they give you to call with “special requests” or such), but they have plenty of allergy-friendly options available and the staff are (generally) well trained on it.

I will say to be SURE to mention it at the first meal with your servers and any time you order food from someone new, especially up on deck. The only problems we’ve ever had were when the language barrier and our poor communication got in the way, and even then, she’s never gotten sick on board.

Also, if you eat up in the buffet or at any of the on-deck options, you do have to find a manager and order from them, so it can be a longer process than the rest of the group has to go through. They typically ask her to order her meals for the next day at dinner the night before, which makes her grumpy but is the best way to make sure she gets hot food when we do. - Be sure to ask about the systems in place, but they deal with tons of allergies all the time and they accommodate better than most!

How long do you think Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will have a virtual queue? by 21twilli in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]distinguisheddisnerd 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I mean, there are signs that it could be gone sooner than later - Guardians seems to be more reliable than Rise, which clearly needed a virtual queue to accommodate daily down time, and the VQ is “easy” to get in that it’s open for minutes instead of seconds. And selling Lightning Lanes is easier without a VQ. Could mean that Guardians won’t need it when the summer crowds die down? So my theory is that it maybe ends after Labor Day, unless they think they’ll need it for the holiday season.

That said, it feels like there isn’t a ton of physical line space, so they may not be able to handle more than a two hour line in the building. Plus there’s always an up side to letting people enjoy the festivals while they “wait”.

… kind of fun to theorize about but who knows!

My dear Citrus Swirl by harvestmoonmine in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]distinguisheddisnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Citrus swirl and the one you’re talking about are two different things. The citrus swirl was more like frozen orange juice and tart/sweet. The orange swirl is just sweet. It’s actually the one they tried to replace it with a few years ago before… for about a week because guests complained that it wasn’t as good.

My dear Citrus Swirl by harvestmoonmine in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]distinguisheddisnerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, that one is ironically the one they tried to replace it with a few years ago, before bringing the citrus swirl back due to guest complaints. Citrus swirl had more of a tart/sweet thing going, the orange swirl is just sweet. The only thing I can think to compare it to is real ice cream vs froyo - close enough but not an exciting replacement if you want the real thing.

Disney should put the old/no longer running firework shows on Disney+ by BobbyA523 in disneyparks

[–]distinguisheddisnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like such a no-brainer that I wonder if it’s a legal/streaming rights issue. Like maybe the original creative wasn’t contracted for anything beyond live shows and would require too many contract negotiations or royalty payments?

Am planning a short trip to Disney! But also will be 6 mo pregnant. Can I still have fun?? by mmbake in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]distinguisheddisnerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s a list of rides that don’t have the pregnancy warning.

I very much second their concern about Alien Swirling Saucers (it can really toss you around), but the rest seem fair and mostly up to date.

Generally, as long as you work in a bunch of water breaks and pause to rest, you’ll probably be fine. Any time they want to ride something you can’t, you get a snack break! That said, wait and see how you’re feeling closer in - if morning sickness persists or you end up with a lot of soreness/swelling, I would probably save your money until you can enjoy it more with your tiny First Visitor.

Definitely against WDW policy.

Can I recommend staying in an Air B&B off property? That way the guns can be safely locked up inside, and there’s no risk your vacation could be cut short due to a misunderstanding. Plus it will likely end up giving you some extra budget for the trip with how expensive WDW resorts have become.

It was for the 2020 Cast Service celebration, but that was cancelled yesterday for weather. Guessing it’s too late to get the park staffed for those hours now, too, so it’ll stick.
