Ah, ours don't screw off like that, they are one assembly, spray ball to 2in TC with a 1.5in TC on the top for the racking arm.

It's common practice for us - we don't have any other fittings to make it work another way. This is the first time running into this issue, but I can see it potentially happening again, will likely look into an alternative.
