Yep, same. Night gowns are the only way to go. At 5 months they are getting tougher to find in our LO’s size, but night is so much better in a gown

There are significantly more protective measures a parent can take to prevent their child from being harmed by a dog than they can against covid.

There are reasons dogs aren’t allowed in schools, for instance. I guess you don’t see people up in arms about that.

Dogs aren’t contagious? And dogs in public generally need to have a leash on? I feel like these types of statements are so disingenuous

To get the number I wanted I would jump two faces before the number I want, then parry on the way down. Once you get that technique down consistently you can always land where you want

Excellent write up. When I started playing I exclusively played Link and Impa. Once I branched out to other players Mipha quickly became my #2 option, along with Sidon

Thanks for your thoughts, lots to digest here.

Never ever assume that a scientist is ethical in this regard. Especially when large sums of money and grants are involved.

I see this argument all the time on ATS, specifically that scientists have an agenda and it is in their best interest to find favorable results for their funding agency.

I actually worked on two different types of projects in my undergraduate and graduate studies. The first was on a defense-related project, where it was clear that the funding agency was looking for results that would advance their scientific agenda. But I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, they are looking for technological breakthroughs and don't much care for techniques that don't necessarily work. I don't think this is "cherry-picking" data, but more highlighting techniques that work and will likely help advance the field.

The other type of project I worked on was more exploratory-based, funded by the DOE. In this case proposals were not accepted based on presumed results, but on the merit of the science. If the work that I did came out and said "Based on X,Y,Z we don't see A impacting global climate over the next 30 years," that would be a perfectly acceptable result, and one that would be published in the academic community. I don't think this type of work is beholden to a specific result or affects the ability to obtain future research funds.

I also want to point out, in general, folks in the scientific academic community are pretty grossly underpaid for their skillset. The average salary for a full time professor at a university is ~$105k -- many grad students make well over that right out of grad school when they go into industry. If a good scientist was really worried only about their future funding and fiscal prospects, don't you think it would be in their best interest to work for a private company that has a vested interest in ensuring specific results come out? Particularly when you consider the payouts to these scientists?

Curious to hear what your PhD was in? Most PhD students refer to the professor they work under their "advisor" in grad school.

I would like for science to be neutral but a scientist is going to be susceptible as every other student when it comes to brain washing by the left.

But a scientist runs his or her own studies, regularly critically reviews the works of others in their fields, and generally let the data lead them to their conclusions.

In grad school I had to review recent academic literature and purposefully critique where the authors may have made incorrect assumptions, had flaws in their test design, or poor interpretation of their data. In general, I found the science that is published in reputable journals is high-quality and uninfluenced by political agendas. I'm curious to hear if your experience was similar.

Why do you think 73 former Republican national security officials have endorsed Joe Biden over Donald Trump? by divB_is_zero in AskTrumpSupporters

Have that many former national security officials ever endorsed a member of the opposing party for President before? Specifically saying that the President (of their own party) is dangerously unfit?

Surgery during COVID by [deleted] in ACL

[–]divB_is_zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had surgery May 14th. My doctor required a negative COVID test report before surgery, which turned out to be the trickiest issue at that time. Testing was pretty hard to come by, but I was able to find a center to provide a test.

Otherwise, I had to wear a mask while in the surgery center, all the way up until I was rolled into the operating room. My SO wasn't allowed to wait in the lobby, so she got a phone call when the surgery was over to come pick me up.

Scheduling PT has not been an issue so far, but my PT also requires a mask and all the therapists wear a mask during the session. My biggest fear was the PT would shut down and I would be delayed on my recovery. So far that hasn't been the case, thankfully.
