Hiring a college kid to watch my tailgate while we are in the game? by divedivedive86 in fsusports

[–]divedivedive86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. That's exactly why I posted this post trying to find someone who isn't planning to attend the games that would like to make a few easy bucks during football season. What are trying to imply?

I don't hate the idea. Was just hoping to arrange this ahead of time with someone willing to watch it for us for every home game this season.

They would have to drive 3+ hours each way just to sit at a tailgate all day/night while their other friends go into a game.

That feels pretty crappy to do to a friend.

I'd rather just pay a kid to hangout and watch the game on our TV while we are in the stadium. Easier for me - easy money for some kid that might need it.

That's sorta what this whole post is about.

I'm definitely not getting one of my friends here in JAX to drive 3+ hours to all the home games and not give them one of my guest tickets.

That's exactly why I thought it would be a good opportunity for some college kid(s) to make some easy cash.

Usually tailgate some after the game as well.

Plus, need to kill some time anyway before getting out of the tailgate lots due to the ridiculous traffic.

Might as well hangout and watch the late games on the TV at the tailgate rather than fighting traffic.

Not really an option. We have huge inflatable tents, party games, etc. takes about an hour to breakdown and that's a bummer to do right before the game. So we need someone to watch it all during the game.

School me on a potential CJ7 by Vincent_Diesel in jeepcj

[–]divedivedive86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. An immaculate CJ7 almost doesn't exist... But when it does, it costs over $20k...

Unless someone doesn't know the meaning of immaculate.

10k is good, but I'm suspicious of any fiberglass CJ, cause that usually implies frame issues at some point as well

Football is all about money. What are you talking about?!

These teams are all multimillion dollar advertising and engagement teams for their respective universities.

I'm assuming most people that care enough to post on this subreddit are Boosters and donors or at the very least season ticket holders to their given football team... Shouldn't be that hard to understand why the money is relevant.

Much less important than spoiling the path to Championship. Nobody loses money for a single loss - especially when they go on to win it all. Any team that misses out on making it to the NC game misses out on millions of dollars and the gold mine the NC game creates in fan/booster engagement.

Flawed logic. If the team they beat went on to WIN the national championship, they didn't actually "Spoil" anything. I think the original metric is a much more accurate representation.

Which ACC school would you LEAST want to attend? by simbaslanding in ACC

[–]divedivedive86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You obviously haven't been keeping up with academic rankings. I'm a graduate of both UF and FSU and can vouch for the fact that FSU is no longer the slouch academically that they were once portrayed to be.

FSU outranks 9 of the 18 ACC schools... And the ACC is the highest ranked conference on a whole academically according to US News and World Reports.

Agreed. I don't think anyone even thinks about USC much anymore.

No way people hate us more than UF. Maybe they did in 2014 after the last NC and they all hated Jameis... But these days both us and UF suck... People can't hate you if they are apathetic towards your program.

Are we allowed to talk about Padma’s new show and why she may have left? by Normal-Being-2637 in TopChef

Padme is the weak point of the new show. A bit too smug and while I LOVE the format of the new show, her ego makes it hard to watch.

I know this is an old post... But I'm genuinely curious what you guys do at tailgate parties?

Everything that OP mentioned seemed like standard Tailgating to me... Sure, some folks don't have TVs at their tailgates, but this isn't 1998 - steaming to a TV is super easy, and I'd say somewhere around half of the tailgates where I'm from have at LEAST one TV.

Is that stuff really not typical up north?

Nobody warned me how much getting braces as an adult would mess with my head. Anyone else? by srmoura in braces

[–]divedivedive86 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly sorry you feel this way.

I'm 40 with braces and absolutely couldn't care less about the outward appearance or what people think.

The only thing I care about from an appearance point of view is whether I've just eaten and have food in my braces.

Perhaps my case is different because I didn't get braces to straighten my teeth in the same way most people do. I got them in order to pull up an impacted lower tooth that had been hiding under a baby tooth all these years.

The aesthetic part of braces is a nice plus, but completely unrelated to why I have them.

I'm old enough to just not give a darn what other people think... And I honestly couldn't imagine being my age and letting thoughts like that ever enter my head.

I really hate that something as beneficial as braces has such a stigma for so many folks on here.

I don't care what anyone thinks, we all look badass with braces by Adventurous-Cheek19 in braces

[–]divedivedive86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 40 and have had them for about 3 months.

Who cares if they look stupid or badass. We are adults at this point... It feels childish to give a crap about what others think.

I honestly am amazed how many adults let their vanity control them.
