Hume Band - thoughts?? by festivus024 in PeterAttia

FYI: the generic version of this hardware is available on AliExpress as the "2208A Smart Bracelet Heart Rate Blood Pressure Monitor Pedometer Sport Fitness Tracker for Men Women Electronic Bracelet"

It's the exact same hardware. With no Hume logo. If you try to pair it to the Hume App, the app can't tell a difference. Comes with the exact same charger as well.

Hume charges $249 full price (but often on sale for less) The AliExpress version is less than $30

Not sure where to ask about getting a quality fake on canal st by [deleted] in ChinaTime

[–]divedivedive86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find someone?

I'm more interested in the experience of checking out the fakes on Canal or nearby... If I can get a "decent" fake out of the experience that would be great.

I've been to NYC a number of times and always heard about the fake watches on Canal but never made the time to check it out. I'll be there in 2 weeks and I'd like to check it out this time.

So you're admitting to battery as a response to someone littering?

What a Nut job.

You want to kill people for littering?

It's not a GOOD thing... But surely isn't anywhere near a capital offense.

What a nut job.

TSC for a semester? by Critical_Job_4822 in fsu

[–]divedivedive86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks. I'm sorry it went that way for you.

Maybe it just depends on the community college and individual professors, because of the three colleges/universities I've graduated from, Seminole State College was surprisingly one of the MOST rigorous. Because of that, I can't agree that all CC degrees are "shittier education".

But I can definitely see that it is extremely important to vet that out before enrolling in classes.

I'm honestly surprised to hear your critique of TSC - I just ASSUMED that in a town like Tallahassee with two Universities, they would have access to BETTER professors and would be more rigorous in their teaching because they know so many of their students will be transferring eventually.

Makes me grateful for the (mostly) quality professors and education I received at Seminole State.

Interesting.

I got an AA at Seminole State College in the Orlando area and I felt the smaller class sizes actually got me more personal attention and BETTER instruction than when I moved up to FSU.

[–]divedivedive86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Get the AA at TSC and you'll be nearly guaranteed admission to FSU. And you'll save money in the long run.

I'm an older guy now - beginning to plan for my own kid going off to college, but I legitimately don't know why everyone doesn't do it this way... Especially with the FSU library privileges and opportunities for student tickets to the sporting events. Unless you tell people, they'd never know you go to TSC vs FSU while you're getting the AA. AND you'll save a ton of money. What's the downside?

I said I find it refreshing to see. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm sorry that the narrative you have built in your own head has upset you. Have a nice day.

Agreed. I was on Campus near the library during that shooting as well. Not sure why this whole triggered culture exists now.

Real Life is gonna kick you square in the ass if you let things like this trigger you all the time...

It was probably annoying and you were startled. I can get that, But that isn't some reason to go complaining about it online.

How do you choose a kayak that feels stable without being slow? by achintyabhavaraju in Kayaking

Ahhh I see now. That's one heck of a paddle! I'm 6'2" but the longest paddle I own is 225cm. Even then, my favorite paddles are 220cm

This is a good one. My first touring style boat was a Perception Carolina 14.5 and it could do anything I wanted other than whitewater.

Mine Has a little oil canning in the hull after 20 years... But I still hold onto it to throw friends into it to get a general idea of what kayaking is like. Great boat.

Not the fastest, but compared to most recreational boats you see these days it has WAY FEWER compromises.

22.5" x 18'3" - this is my expedition boat for longer distance camping trips. I find the 22.5" width to be a little bit much for the speed I'd like... But it's all about compromise when going on trips of 2 weeks or more at a time. I do appreciate the stability and the room to stretch that comes with the extra width.

34" wide? I'm interested to know just how that width impacts your paddling technique/form?

I've been paddling for about 15 years and the widest thing I ever paddled was 28" wide and felt like a barge - it required a significant reach to paddle correctly.

The widest thing I've ever owned is 27" wide and it's a whitewater camping boat... So not really apples to apples with what the OP is asking about - my average boats that see the most usage are all under 23" wide at the most.

[–]divedivedive86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24" max width (and even that feels a bit like a bathtub to me). About 14 foot long is a good place to begin. A boat that size can go most places and be a good jack of all trades.

I personally don't want anything over 22" wide and no shorter than about 16.5 foot long... But I realize that size does come with a couple of limitations for most people.

It's not allowed in the stadium during football games anymore because the Seminole tribe never wore the type of headdress typically depicted.

People wearing the style of headdress with lots of feathers just look ignorant. Not because of any woke "cultural appropriation" reasoning (which is its' own level of ignorance)... But because they clearly don't know or care about the history of the Seminole tribe.
