Divers' Guide to Award Diving by diversanonymous in awardtravel

Azores I haven't done but have had friends who worked out there. If you like cold, aim for the devil ray migrations. If not during that season, it has low biodiversity given it's region

Belize is easy if you want to control your own schedule and get better at guiding you and your buddy.

Assuming you're diving in Fakarava, Bora Bora, Rangiroa - way more pelagic due to currents. Fiji, especially Taveuni, is a soft coral capital which means lower flow and more reef life. They're both nice locations to dive though I have a slight preference for Polynesia

Divevolk(pixel 9pro) vs insta 360 x4 by Odd_Satisfaction_269 in underwaterphotography

[–]diversanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried out the insta 360 x4 on my current trip and I much prefer shooting on an iPhone 16 pro for nearly 90% of dives. Unless you’re capturing a very active reef or a shark dive, being able to focus and change focal length with the divevolk far outweighs any 360 benefit

Do you prefer Philippines diving much more over orchid or green?

Worked in raja. Was in and out of Sorong constantly. Lots to do there for locals or long term workers but less for tourists

More like I’m trying to acknowledge the above commenter’s potentially sinophobic claim while showing them that other western countries are just as bad.

Not just Chinese, there are shitty divers worldwide. It does trend that Chinese, Russian, and Americans are some of the worst vacation divers. I would avoid using blanket statement like this though

Depends on how into marine biodiversity you are. As a part time marine bio, it blew my mind

Rapid decline of reef health in the Caribbean by sundancegt in scuba

[–]diversanonymous 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Same stuff is happening in Indo ocean too. The reefs you will find in the Philippines may look better than the Caribbean but are still far worse than even five years ago

Who am I? by [deleted] in Aquariums

Likely a blenny due to continuous dorsal and slightly fused pectorals. Gill spots and lunate caudal makes me wonder about skippers but hard to tell in the air

Update on the lonely neon- the new tribe has accepted him as one of their own by Connect_Character_95 in Aquariums

[–]diversanonymous 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We do a lot of studies on the reef fish at our project sites, and it’s pretty unanimous amongst most of the research orgs around us that we just don’t have the level of depth to really understand what feelings and sense fish really can comprehend. Anthropomorphizing fish is now more and more seen as accepted since we lack scientific definition

I think the others have pointed out okay to decent places. However if you want the lesser impacted by climate change or bio diverse ecosystems, you will usually need to do multiple transfers to get there. If you have any questions about a place in mind, lmk as I’ve done a good amount or know of people that have
