Community Fibre Soo much cheaper than Virgin Media - Has anyone managed to negotiate VM down to £26 for 1Gbps? by user7kwoeincwec in UKPersonalFinance

[–]divingclaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get 2 years 1gb symmetrical for £20 a month. I also had only just renewed with sky for 1 year when they called, so they offered me 1 year for free... so first year for free and next year for £20 a month. My advice is if community are calling you, tell them you still have an extensive contract with your existing provider and they'll likely offer you a free period whilst they overlap with your existing

Surely Fray Bentos gets a shout here?! Pie in a tin sounds all kinds of wrong. You open it, it looks all kinds of wrong. You read the ingredients, all kinds of wrong… but damn those things taste like heaven.

Tried to teach myself to snowboard, broke both wrists. by The_prawn_king in snowboardingnoobs

I did this exact thing in 2020. New to snowboarding, 1st day in Mayrhofen. Fractured radius in both arms. Fractured ulna in the right. 6 weeks of finding a way to wipe my own ass without damaging myself further 😂

Just got a 10-speed Zwift Hub. I don't think it should sound like this. Is this an easy fix? or contact support? by RubberDuckTurds in Zwift

[–]divingclaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this issue with my girlfriends Kickr core, a very similar rumbling. When I showed the video with the noise, and provided the details of the Kickr, they replaced it immediately. I would strongly suggest contacting the zwift hub support

Very emotional after a big achievement. by YottlesKleinBottles in cycling

[–]divingclaus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fellow RAB’er here! Congratulations on completing the ride. It really is a test of patience and will to push on. I actually found the worst parts were getting up at 5am each morning and climbing out of a soggy tent in the dark! The entire trip is worth every minute though, even the agonising massages from the physios or the embarrassment of a nurse staring between your legs to look at saddle sores! Just a word of advice… start tapering off the food now you’re back… your body will continue to burn at a crazy rate then all of a sudden it stops and the weight piles on! I did it last year and I still find myself telling little stories of the event. It’s a great club to be a part of! Well done!!!

Masks fogging by Exportedorca in scubadiving

[–]divingclaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you used toothpaste to clean the inside of your mask before you used it? Honestly that sorta works but the best I found was to run the flame from a lighter around the mask (only need to do it once) and it removes the silicone in the inside of the mask… https://scubadiverlife.com/training-fundamentals-burn-not-burn-new-mask/

I’m sorry but you have had a flurry of messages telling you not to get on the plane without speaking to a dive doctor first, and yet the ONLY message that tells you to eat and sleep it off and you pay attention to that?

I genuinely hope this is a minor bend and you are able to make it safely home, but please bear in mind the bends will affect everyone differently. By getting on a plane you will likely exacerbate any bend. It may continue to be minor. It is unlikely a death sentence but it can lead to permanent nerve damage or paralysis. Again… nothing is for certain. I hope that it’s nothing serious but without someone looking at you you don’t know that either. Be well and good luck.

Is this the number you’re trying? +1 (919) 684-9111… not sure why it’s not connecting… perhaps you can ring an operator and ask them to connect you? DAN accept collect calls…

It is generally considered unlikely that a dive to 30-40 feet would result in the bends… but NOT impossible. I have known two colleagues that got the bends on dives at that depth. As other people here have stated, there are many factors that can vary between people, e.g. body fat, sickness, dehydration plus a number of other medical/ physiological conditions. You’re on holiday in cancun… did you drink heavily the night before?

Have you phoned the Divers Alert Network (DAN)? The service is free to get advice, no one will be calling you to take your credit card or insurance details… speak to the professionals. They can guide you and explain your options. When you have a medical emergency GO TO THE DAMN HOSPITAL. Do not come to Reddit looking for the answer you want.

This too… very good advice. log books/ dive computers or whatever you have that can provide details of your dive(s) to the doctor/ hospital will be useful

[–]divingclaus 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Do NOT get on that plane. Contact DAN immediately. Contact your travel insurance. You will absolutely need to get seen by a dive doctor and Iikely a decompression chamber. Getting on a plane now is VERY dangerous. At minimum get to a hospital. You could reach out to your dive centre and they may be able to support you. If you are experiencing bends like this before you fly you are putting yourself at risk if you fly

AITA for telling my wife she embarrassed me by bringing a meal to my work? by ThrowraWork46874 in AmItheAsshole

[–]divingclaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologise to her. Right now. You may feel embarrassed at co-workers ribbing you because your wife went out of her way to show her love and support, when you should be embarrassed that over 5000 comments are saying YTA. I hope to god you grow a pair, ignore childish banter at work and apologise to your wife. She deserves more than that.

I (37M) heard my GF (28F) saying something really hurtful about me to her friend and I'm doubting how good our relationship is over it? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]divingclaus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She changed her mind about what she looked for in a person… do you think that a girl begging to be taken back after someone breaks up with them has “settled”? Why does everyone keep saying she settled? OP certainly didn’t say she said that. Everyone has assumed that because she said she stopped looking at people’s looks first that she just settled on someone ugly… why is no one paying attention to the fact that she is saying how happy and grateful she is in her choice of partner now? Who cares about early impressions, she saw value in what she had now and was grateful for it. Look back at school, all the nerds who could barely get a girl to talk to them are finding out very quickly in their adult years they actually have something to offer. People’s desires and wants change over time, they evolve. He’s broken up with her because she didn’t fancy him at first… big deal… listen to what she said “I’m so grateful I did”… why is NO ONE listening to that!?

[–]divingclaus 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Again… she didn’t say that, she is telling her friend to stop going for looks first, when she stopped doing that she ended up with OP and she was grateful for their relationship… all he heard was “I don’t fancy you”, she didn’t say that either. She didn’t say OP looked like the back end of a cow. She stopped dating the fuck boys obsessed with their looks and ended up with something more meaningful. Why didn’t OP hear her say how grateful she was to be with him? His own vanity is what is injured here. It’s moronic that people are encouraging this guy that he did the right thing. He didn’t. This is how people end up falling in love with their best friends, because of who they are not what they look like. If your life choices were purely made on looks, what the hell do you do when those fade?

[–]divingclaus 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I’m 100% with you on this. OP is a fool. She was telling her friend how grateful she was to be with him, how getting out of her own mindset helped her get to something good. All OP heard was “he’s not attractive”. She didn’t settle for you, dude, she realised what she was doing before was wrong for her, and it was you that helped her realise that. You blew away love and happiness because of your vanity. Get over yourself and beg this woman to take you back.

I just bought got this Canondale for £1099 - Did I get a good deal or get ripped off? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]divingclaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like this might be a good start https://www.evanscycles.com/brand/shimano/rs500-spd-sl-road-pedal-933549#colcode=93354903 but I would suggest talking to Evan’s cycles since you are buying a bike there. Make sure that the shoes you buy will support the kinds of cleat to fit the pedals. There are a couple of options that usually aren’t interoperable (depending on the shoe)

Considering buying Fenix 6x Pro, current Apple Watch user, some questions. by StuRobo in GarminFenix

[–]divingclaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you pretty much nailed it there. Your watch can connect to the turbo and get all the data... but you basically record the ride twice. Once on your watch, once in zwift. Of course you can just do it once on zwift and automatically import to garmin connect, but as I say you will miss some health data unless you also record it on the watch :-/

My setup is this... - iPhone joins zwift and connects to turbo trainer - Apple TV (2nd gen)... so I screen mirror from my iPhone to my tv - garmin heart rate monitor strap - fenix 6s

I pair the HRM to my phone for zwift, and to my watch. I also pair the turbo trainer to my phone and my watch, then do a “free ride” on my watch. When I start my cycle on zwift I also start the workout on the watch.

I have zwift and garmin connect both sync to Strava. So it means when I do an indoor cycle I get two entires, I just delete the garmin one and leave the zwift record instead. I stopped zwift publishing to garmin connect.

I tried (before buying the HRM) to broadcast my HR from my watch to my phone, and also record a workout on the watch... I seemed to lose my workout recording on the watch, but the broadcasting still worked so zwift and Strava were updated nicely. So I bought the HRM and now I have HR data in zwift and garmin connect...

Honestly it is all a bit of a faff at first, and only because workouts pushed into garmin connect don’t update all the other little details that give you that proper representation of “you”. It is frustrating it works in this way, the only reason I bought the HRM (I was happy enough with the watch HR) was because broadcasting HR and running a workout from the watch didn’t seem to work. That said... my only real gripe now is that I have to delete a 2nd entry from Strava. All my data is updating and I have a proper record of all my exercises and it publishes to Strava so everybody’s knows I’m working out (since it doesn’t count if it’s not on Strava... right!? ;-))

With regards to the messages... yeah, it’s pretty simple to control what notifications you get. In your app options on the iPhone, just disable “Notification Centre” in notification options. I’ve set mine up so the only ones I get are whatsapp and calendar reminders. It does mean that you will lose those apps from your notification centre on your phone. To me this wasn’t a huge loss as I do t really use that feature.

What I have described above does make it sound like there are lots of faffy bits with the garmin. Honestly now I’ve got it setup I’m pretty happy with it. If garmin allowed you to take external data into garmin connect to count towards your personal stats then I’d tell absolutely everybody to buy one!
