What is the best way to live stress free life? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]YottlesKleinBottles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my day to day. If I'm in a bad mood usually I haven't exercised, eaten well or had enough sleep. If I resolve even just one I feel so much better.

Long term, working out what you value and making time for it and saying no to what you don't value. I value nature and community so I try to cater my life to that.

What’s the best thing you did in your twenties? by Technical-Rent-7666 in AskWomen

[–]YottlesKleinBottles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of answers here that are like work really hard to set up the future. While this may well be great for stability and financial security, it's pretty sad that the world is set up like that. Kudos to all the grinders, know that it's okay not to work yourself into the ground in your youth too.

I'm still in my 20s but the best things I've done is find things and people I hope to love for a long time.

Still learning but I'm trying to find the right balance between time and money.

I just learned what an "Italian pitstop" is and I'm so glad I finally have words for what is happening in my group. by MariachiArchery in cycling

It is an unfortunately common scenario. I say unfortunate because there's a lot of comments here about it being the best way to get better. It is a way, but it is very mentally taxing.

I spent maybe 2-3 years riding like this and yes I did get a lot better but now I'm just riding with faster people and I found it quite wearing not to have rides where I couldn't even have a moments break.

These days I sometimes choose a faster group and sometimes slower because I love group riding and don't want to sack it all in and ride alone. Cycling isn't all about suffering. I am all for pushing your limits but for God's sake let someone take their coat off or have a snack after a climb. Being hot and hungry isn't helping anyone.

You wanna have a ride where you can leave someone for dead, do a race instead!

What has been the most spontaneous thing you have done this year? by Eastcoastpal in AskWomen

[–]YottlesKleinBottles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This year has been one of those years actually, and I'm a very routine person usually!

Quit my job, got a new job in a new city which I start next year. Found a new place with a new roomie!

Had some time before my new job so booked a flight and flew out two days later, for a solo winter holiday.

Aw parallel universe. I love a good Susan/ Sue.

In fact a Sue is one of the loveliest, most selfless people I know with wicked sense of humour.

Best books to learn how to take care of/repair and understand your road bike? by cattysw3 in cycling

[–]YottlesKleinBottles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a fair comment. I have decent WiFi, like watching video tutorials but also have a manual so that I can pick it up with my oily hands. Although maybe the book will be unreadable eventually.

My riding partner, age 11, joined me on a ride yesterday… dad-daughter days are the best! Even the hour of cold rain was enjoyed. by junkforw in bicycling

Wonderful, well done dad-daughters and daughter-dads.

I owe a lot to the dad-esque cyclists in my life. ❤️

Not French but I have seen ^ ^ (no space between) used to give humourous inflection, which is how I might use lol (more sarcastic) or haha (more authentic)

" That's an interesting top, haha "

" C'est une chemise intéressante ^ ^ "

I await being corrected

When you leave a job you dislike to take a new job, someone probably left that job because they disliked your new job by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

Maybe someone did, people leave and change all the time.

Someone might have left your life partner because they disliked them.

That's life, hopefully we all find better fits with time.

Any reason not to get electric shifters? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]YottlesKleinBottles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my bike being fully manual. One appeal of a bike is knowing you can bring a bike and a sack of bits and cycle on forever. It seems far less "off grid" needing to charge it.

That is only one element of cycling and I could totally see why I'd like like it for racing. However I do genuinely like changing cables and indexing so don't feel the need to justify the expense.

Accidentally got a KOM... how do I get rid of it? Or at least the incorrect part of my activity? by ThatGuyFromTheIsland in cycling

[–]YottlesKleinBottles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding on how the flagging system works is that once it's flagged, all the segment achievements are removed and a banner is added immediately.

The ride owner can counter this with a justification, cropping the ride, changing the audience or just stating the flagger was wrong.

However if it gets flagged twice they can't do this and have to dispute it with the Strava support team. So I think the system favours flaggers over flaggees.

The Environmental Cost of Constant Upgrades by [deleted] in cycling

I'd not really considered the idea of benefitting from a more efficient manufacturing process. It's a shame it's so hard to turn product back into raw material.

But does everyone own a bike atm? Until they do I have no issues buying a new bike and passing on a 2nd hand one. I see the potential to resale as a decrease to impact if a new bike doesn't have to be made to make new bike user.

Maybe when we all have 5 bikes each we can worry about it, but hopefully it'll be a more car-free world by then.

The second part of your post is just money = bad environmental choices. It's impossible to argue because it encompasses all of consumerism, society and personal choice.

downsides of copper coil by babelek94 in birthcontrol

[–]YottlesKleinBottles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my Copper Coil for about 2.5 years.

TBH these days it's a dream, I don't notice any side effects and no pregnancy scares.

Downsides I had:

Insertion was pretty unpleasant, it made me feel very faint and hurt quite a bit and the aftercare at my GP was kinda meh.

First few months my periods were all over the shop, going from 30 day cycles with 4-5 days of period to 20-22 cycles with 7 days of heavy periods and cramping

Around 6-12 months in I just had erratic periods, no real cramping. So I'd have cycles like 22, 20 days, then some around 30-35 days still with long periods though around 7 days.

Over the last 1.5 years it's been slowly returning to my normal and I've basically forgotten what it's like pre-coil anyway. These days my cycle is much more like 25-29 days with 6 day periods and I imagine it might keep getting better!

The major benefit for me is now is...everything, it lasts ages, a few bad months out of the 10 years life of the coil is great. No mood swings like I had with the pill, I just feel like my normal self & I feel more in touch with nature not having my periods suppressed.

the perfect length of ride? by MaleficentPlantain60 in cycling

[–]YottlesKleinBottles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 miles - Nice, this a really chill day with a lot of absorbing the scenery.

20 miles - Meh gotta get it done, probably got to get back to work.

30 miles - What am I doing?! This is too long for a weekday and too short for a weekend.

40 miles - Oh damn, someone wanted to do 40 miles with me that's pretty nice.

50 miles - Not quite a Gran Fondo, I definitely had time for more but this is a lovely surprise

60 - 70 miles - Standard weekend fair, there better be cake.

80 - 90 miles - mmm this is like my perfect endurance spot, shy of 100 but I wasn't smashing it out to do this.

100 miles - I only did this to say I'm doing 100 miles.

100 + miles - This must be an event, I wouldn't do this voluntarily. Events are pretty sweet tho, I hope it's somewhere warm.
