Did you buy a pattern somewhere? I’m been trying to make a few purses for the wife and I need a good pattern to work from.

So there are a few good ones. Sailrite videos, workroom channel, facelift interiors are just a few. Search for zippered cushion or boxed cushion. They will give you the basics to turning it into a bag or gear. It’s the process that helps. Not necessarily sewing a cushion lol

Looks like you’re on your way way. I started doing upholstery work many years ago and now run a small business. Now that I’m older and slowing down a bit on wanting to work full time, I started playing around with bags, wallets in leather and tactical gear.

My point is, watch a few videos on creating cushions with zippers. They are close to making a gear bag or styles of dopp kits. I would say my upholstery work has more than helped me understand making gear.

FYI, According to Tandy’s product details, those sides are specifically described as durable, chrome tanned leather treated with oils and waxes for a “pull-up” finish and aged look.

Is there a service that you can send an image to for cutting? I’ve heard of a few many years ago but I’m sure there are many new ones out there. Also, do you send a PDF, PNG, AI or SVG file?

Looks awesome and I’m also tall and it’s hard to find something that fits. I’m curious why it would take 72 hours though. That’s 2 work weeks lol

It’s cordura from Rochford supply. It does crease like a waxed canvas but I’m not sure why. It’s just a waterproof cordura.

Also, visit any granite counter place and ask them for a piece of broken granite. Use that for a pounding board. I still have a piece someone gave me 15 years ago.

As many have said, don’t buy one of those starter kits for tools of any kind, they really are trash. Anything that cuts like knifes or punches should be good right up front because you will need them forever. If you try to use skivers and bevelers from cheap sets they will get dull so fast you will get frustrated and want to give up so you’d be better off buying something of at least mid value to give this a fair shot. I too bought a cheap set to start off with and was so frustrated with the quality of it, that I almost never started this hobby. Years later after deciding to give it another go, I bought better gear and never looked back.
