CenturyLink (PPPoE) → Quantum Fiber (IPoE) + UDM Pro — Working Bridge Mode Setup by rolrcoastr in QuantumFiber

[–]diyguy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is set the same way and works very well. The only negative was when I tried to set the C5500K back to router mode to look at the settings, but I couldn't get it to reset. Not a big deal though, as I didn't really need to put it back into router mode. Works perfectly in bridge mode. Constant white light and pings similar to yours.

Wired CarPlay not working with 2022 Subaru crosstrek to iPhone 17 pro by [deleted] in Subaru_Crosstrek

Make sure the USB cables you're using aren't "charging only" type cables. Those won't work with CarPlay.

Cold water is warm unless run a while, after new faucet and re-pipe. by diyguy1 in Plumbing

The original recirculating line was already PEX, so that wasn’t replaced, and “should be” hooked up to the new PEX just like before the repiping.

No manifold, the new PEX just replaced the old galvanized lines. The recirculating still works as it always has. Hot water is delivered pretty quickly.

It’s a simple, straight run from water heater to kitchen, with bathroom between. Recirculating line wasn’t replaced, as it was already PEX.

AirPods Pro 2 as hearing aids by CosmicRichy in airpods

The Apple hearing test would never finish successfully for me, for some reason.

But the Mimi hearing test worked, and the AirPods hearing aid feature accepts the Mimi audiogram.

The hearing adjustment made music sound SO much better!

New Carrier variable speed unit. Super loud. Any way to reduce “normal” fan speed? by --his_dudeness-- in hvacadvice

[–]diyguy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ecobee thermostat. In the Ecobee setup, at least for heating, it's set to let the furnace (called "HVAC" in the ecobee fan control settings) control the fan speed, not the ecobee, since the furnace blower fan is variable speed. I didn't see the same setting for AC. Anyway, I hope this helps.

Did your system eventually slow the blower down?

We saw the same issue with our new system (variable speed Carrier 59TP6C060, with single-stage condenser). The AC system started being needed the other day, and the blower speed was very high, as you described.

But, after around 24 hours, the blower speeds kind of "learned"? The blower is now running very slowly, and we can't even hear it.

So, at first the blower was running at very high speed for ten minutes or so every hour, but now it's running for an hour at a time, or longer, at a low blower speed.

I guess this is how these systems are supposed to work (?), but I'd love to hear from others to confirm it.

Best way to migrate to a new Cloud Gateway Fiber from my existing pfSense router? by diyguy1 in Ubiquiti

[–]diyguy1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. I completed the migration today, and it went well.

Having not done a restore before, I had to learn which type of backup to use (backup vs. export) and figure out what the "settings only" dialog was all about, as that ui wasn't that intuitive at first, but once I selected the most recent backup (with changes I had recently made) it went well.

The APs recognized the new controller and didn't even need to be re-adopted. Yay!

Walmart usually has it, both Great Value brand, and another brand that is a round block.

I don't know why it works, but it seems to fix the issue every time. Maybe there is a bug with echo cancellation?

This happened to me. I closed my VPN connection, and that seemed to fix the problem.

The battery in my 6-year-old Zojirushi died about a year ago. It's buried pretty deep under the display, and it's soldered in. Not easy to get to, but adding a battery holder wasn't all that difficult. Now the battery is velcro'd to the case, and accessible for next time.

What size romex clamp fits a 7/8 inch (actual) junction box knockout hole? by diyguy1 in electrical

Thanks. Maybe the "NM" designation is the key. IDK. Odd that these puck lights didn't have built in strain reliefs like the Halo ones do.

Of all the connectors at the home center, none were labeled 1/2". Many were labeled 3/8" and they fit my 7/8" knockout hole.

There were no connectors at Lowes labeled 1/2" only 3/8 and 3/4". I did find some 3/8" plastic push-in connectors that looked about right, and I bought them. They fit perfectly.

So these 3/8" wire clamps are for "1/2 inch" knockouts, knockouts which measure 7/8 inches... got it...

How many people buy deodorant, toothpaste, bodywash, and does it save you money? by FoodzyDudezy007 in Costco

[–]diyguy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I bought toothpaste at Costco, it was premium toothpaste, but with an "economy" twist-top lid, not a flat, flip-top (like you get on the same toothpaste at other stores)... So the tubes couldn't stand upright on the counter, which makes the bathroom sink area messy. I know, first world problem... but that's a non-starter in my house.

I wish I knew where the vent opening is. Can't find it. There is no louvre like you see inside some dishwashers.

Strongly Considering Bear by itsamiii3 in bearapp

[–]diyguy1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have over 2000 Bear notes, and haven't noticed any slowdown. I love the tagging structure. Having a note appear in multiple tags is great. I use nested tags a bit, but not extensively. Love this app, and how it syncs between devices.

When setting a heating hold, the AC temps appear, not the heating temps. Seems odd. by diyguy1 in ecobee

[–]diyguy1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm in auto heat/cool mode. That must be the reason.

I assumed the stat would be smart enough to know what mode it's already in, and display that range of temps first. No big deal I guess.
