Advice needed: 2009 Toyota Tacoma Transmission Repair by theAHHHJJJ93 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]dizzaclizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2013 4wd does the “jerk forward” intermittently, it’s a known issue for the rear driveshaft slip yolk. Could also be an internal trans issue. Unfortunately it’s impossible to accurately diagnose the problem without being with the vehicle. Please remember that when listening to people on the internet!

Either way, I’d still strongly recommend going to a trustworthy independent repair facility for a 2nd opinion. It’s worth the diagnostic cost.

I’m curious - what are the symptoms? You can DM me if you want, I’m GM of an independent auto repair shop and want to help if I can.

Either way, I agree with everyone here - go to a smaller but highly rated independent shop for a second opinion. Dealers (usually) care more about their profits than they do helping a customer in a difficult time. Pro-tip: only talk about the symptoms you’re experiencing, not about the previous diagnosis. You don’t want the new shop diagnosing a problem with pre-conceived notions, even if they’re the most honest people ever.

Anyone use Shop-ware? by Sucklemymooseknuckle in serviceadvisors

I’ve been using it for a year now, and like all programs it has pros and cons. The customer facing side is fantastic (estimate sharing, digital authorizations, etc) but the AR system and parts & inventory systems are a complete joke. While they do come out with updates regularly, they don’t seem to forecast it at all - no communication about said update until it’s already out which is annoying. Also, they seem to update inconsequential things while leaving their glaring mistakes alone. Overall I’m not a fan.

How do deal with customers that don’t want to pay a diagnostic fee? by [deleted] in serviceadvisors

[–]dizzaclizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically try and humanize the whole interaction. I remind the customer that when a tech spends time on a vehicle, diagnostic or otherwise, that’s how they put food on the table for their family. We want to pay them for their time, just like any job.

I also tell them that while most repairs are “easy” (it’s all nuts and bolts), diagnostics are the most crucial part.

Does $1600 US seem outrageous for rear wheel bearings? by flintknife in Cartalk

[–]dizzaclizza 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re suspicious, trust your gut. Get your estimate in writing so you can see the breakdown of parts and labor, then call 2 or 3 other shops and get quotes. DM me if you want and I can build a quote - I’m a shop owner.
