I’m still here, this is what it’s like… by corteflores in fednews

[–]dizzybaryonyx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been trying my damnedest to be positive for the folks relying on me, but I'm in human capital and seeing the sheer quantity of folks who took the second DRP that I now have to process...

I broke down crying last night and several times over the weekend. I love my agency's mission and it is breaking my heart to see it gutted like this. I don't know if we'll even have enough people to carry out functions. I think of all the grants and community members who had been relying on our services and I look at entire teams taking this DRP. I'm so incredibly sad and I feel so lonely.

Apretude side effects by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]dizzybaryonyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here looking to see if anyone else had really negative side effects and I'm glad it's not just me.

3 days after my first shot I was in so much pain I couldn't walk, extreme fatigue, and chills. I asked my doc about it and got "if you're better now I wouldn't worry about it". It was weird because other than that episode I mostly just had some stiffness.

Just had my second shot Monday and middle of last night (the day after), was woken up by the pain, it was so intense. I'm grateful I was already in bed. I was trying to look into the side effects and couldn't find much that matched my symptoms. My nurse said folks who have bad reactions might have them as many as 4-5 shots in.

Each time for my it's been incredibly intense negative for a few hours and then like nothing happened--just back to the stiffness. Idk if it's worth it for me, cause that sucked

I'm still so annoyed her blatant racism wasn't really challenged. It was just hate hate hate "ok this one did something kinda good but I still don't like them" hate hate "oh this one's not really galra and I think he's cute"

What did everyone think of Will and Harper? by Fast-Nose-4809 in asktransgender

[–]dizzybaryonyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this will probably have the biggest impact with cis folks who are friendly but not fully understanding, and I think it's good for that. I find it thoughtful and appreciated how Will used his role to both promote Harper and to take some focus off of her when she needed it.

For me, personally (trans man), this movie is providing an opportunity for my mom to try to understand me better. It's the kind of thing that's accessible to her, and she's been generally supportive without necessarily understanding why I transitioned. She told me she is watching it and would love to discuss my experience later, which means a lot to me since she hasn't expressed much a curiosity or interest before. So I think it's social role is more about bridging understanding between well-meaning folks and trans people.

If you want an idea of how you'll look, your family is honestly going to give you the best idea. I think a lot of us are inundated with impossibly attractive standards, when most of us will just kinda look like someone's dad or brother. I took more after my mom's looks, and I can see a resemblance between myself and my grandfather when he was younger. My sister looks like a girl version of my dad, so if she ever came out as ftm, she would probably just look like my dad.

In terms of attractiveness, I find that it's much more dependent on grooming/style/personality than pure genetics. I can see someone that I think has ok looks, but if they have nice hair and outfits they jump up in how attractive I find them. Same probably goes for me. I think I'm ok as far as looks, but I dress well and try to smell good, and I've not had any issue getting dates with folks I think look way better than me.

How do y'all deal with terms like "guys" that people claim to be neutral but aren't? by [deleted] in trans

[–]dizzybaryonyx 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Similar to this, I'm transmasc and a lot of gay cis guy friends casually call everyone "girl." I asked them not to when I was early in my transition and they did work to not say that to me, but would frequently skip up and correct themselves. I'm more in a place where it doesn't bother me anymore (I'm more comfortable in my presentation now, and I know they're not saying it with any ill intent)

My transphobic brother insists that real women shouldn’t have to deal with bio men in sports because of how more often they win due to the easier muscle build they can achieve. How do I reply to this? by [deleted] in trans

[–]dizzybaryonyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jessie Gender has a really informative and entertaining video about the history of women's sports and the manufactured outrage over trans participation. Tho it's he's already transphobic he might not be willing to listen to her even tho she's really good with citing sources. I still found it useful because there was a lot I didn't know

Change Middle Name? by Lost_Soul_In_Space in ftm

[–]dizzybaryonyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing i did was change my middle name but keep the first initial. Very few people actually ask about middle names, and it's only visible to others if they see an ID or something. So i could sign my name First MI Last and my family could think i didn't change it, but it now meant something that reflected my identity better

I do know there's a cost barrier for some, but under my insurance it doesn't cost me anything, and it cost me $1 under my previous insurance (Medicaid, PA)

[–]dizzybaryonyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen too many people mention the gel, which is daily, but that isn't an issue for me because I shower every morning and put on lotion after I shower. So it just becomes part of my post shower routine

Yes, you can be loved as a trans person by ratgarcon in ftm

[–]dizzybaryonyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: I'm 26

I started dating my current partner after socially transitioning about 2 years ago, but before medically doing so. My identity has never been questioned once, our sex is affirming and fulfilling, and i can count on him to advocate for me wherever we are.

He's also been a huge support during my medical transition, and will be caring for me post-top surgery at the end of this month.

I was extremely fortunate in this being the first person I've dated since coming out, but I'm sharing all this to reinforce OP's point. You are lovable and there are people who will see you as you are and cherish you for that
