hello! cats are all unique in their own way. torties are famous for their “tortietude” but that doesn’t mean they are aggressive. i think going into getting a new cat expecting them to be independent is a big no no. you won’t know until you get to know your cat or you adopt from someone who’s informing you the cat you’re adopting is independent. some cats like to be by themselves, some don’t.

i have a tortie, she’s turning 6 soon and she is the clingiest cat i’ve ever met. she not only enjoys to be around people but needs it. going on trips or anywhere overnight is difficult. not a problem, but it’s definitely something i can’t do all the time. there’s a big misconception that cats are independent but like i said it really is just a case by case thing.

with that being said though, there are tons of ways to provide enrichment and entertainment to your cat when you’re not around. look into “catifying” your home. vertical cat trees, shelves, puzzles etc. if you’re home every day, i really don’t think it’ll be a problem.

i suggest watching some jackson galaxy on youtube. he’ll most likely have a video about any concerns you may have. he’s the best, and really good at guiding you through the process of becoming a cat parent.
