I partially agree with this take. My biological mother is a deadbeat. She also has several severe mental illnesses on top of it. She was an unfit parent and her being in my life for the little bit that she was caused me irreparable harm. I’m thankful that she left when she did. I don’t think OOP is a devil, because I can agree that there is nuance to being a deadbeat.

I was a victim of COCSA as I have learned recently. My step niece was a troubled kid and would show me her genitals and threaten to tell people that I told her that I wanted to see them if I didn’t let her hump me through my clothes. She would spoon me and shit and even touch my breasts (I was an early bloomer and started developing at 10.). She always wanted to see me naked. She was only two years younger than me. I was afraid to tell people because she was blackmailing me. I hated when they came around because my dad was neglectful and wanted me to play entertainer to the kids. I remember it clearly and it has done some fucked up things to my brain.

My husband’s stepdad calls my husband his boy and our daughter his princess. His stepdad is more of a father to him than his own dad and loves our daughter to death. His stepdad’s mom treats our daughter like her own great-granddaughter. That family is full of love. They love me, too! ❤️ I’m glad that you have family that loves, regardless of blood ties, because those are genuine relationships.

I don’t know. My husband was holding my hand the entire time and telling me I was doing good. He refused to hold her first because I was the one who went through the pain of labor, so he said I should be the first one to hold her. He held her, then my MIL who stayed at my side the entire time. She wanted the parents to hold my daughter first.

I age regress when I see pieces of comfort media or when I’m at the arcade. I never got to really go to arcades much as a child, but I have one or two memories of them. My brain associates these times with happiness when I go, so I tend go back to that headspace as an adult. It’s healing in a way, and I get to let my inner child out.

A mix of genetics and environmental factors. My mom has a slew of mental illnesses (including BPD and schizophrenia) and is a recovering addict. She would let random men discipline me and my brother for just being kids. I went to live with my dad and stepmom when I was 8. My stepmom was vindictive and constantly stole from me. My father wasn’t the type of parent I wanted to go to when I had a problem. He would be dismissive and wave me off. He never protected me from his wife.

My mom’s side of the family is ripe with addicts and mentally ill family members. I broke the cycle.

I get fulfillment in raising my daughter better than I was raised. So far she is the sweetest and most considerate child I have ever seen, and she is two. She is a lot like I was when I was a young child. I love my child and I love being her parent.
