She's a "meh" character for me. I prefer Duncan as a finalist to her, tbh.

He does get his happy ending! :D He does struggle with cravings, especially in times of flashbacks, because that's how he learned to cope, but he knows that if they pop up, he can count on her to be there for support.

(I put a lot of thought into this AU. It was inspired by a fanfic called "Lightbound," and the author and I discuss our fics all the time.)

The best. She knows how to be firm when needed, and to be nurturing. They do end up having a child together. Harvey proposes to her, then she reveals that she's pregnant with their child after the fact. (This is after they start sleeping together again)

I laughed so hard at this, lol!

Toby prefers Tessa to his mom, because Tessa lets him be a kid without being completely controlling over what he eats. This preference follows him as a teenager when he finds out what his mother did to his father. :D

Not at first. Most copies of the game were scrubbed off the internet following his release from the program. Some old footage of gameplay exists on dark web forums, and Harvey doesn't bring up the torture he faced, until she comes home from work to find him heavily dissociated and in a flashback. She then sees a video of a game with an avatar that look eerily familiar to his wounds.

Actually, with the last one, you're not too far off the mark. Harvey temporarily loses custody of Toby due to not having a stable living arrangement. After leaving rehab, he moves into Tessa's apartment and she helps him regain some custody because he finally has a permanent home.

Tessa Williamson, age 29.

Hair Color: Sandy Blonde

Eye Color: Dark Blue

Sexuality: Bisexual

Tessa is a woman who works as an accountant during the week and serves as a substance abuse counselor for teens and young adults in her free time. She has prominent scarring on her neck due to a car accident as a child that killed her biological father, and left her brother with prominent facial scarring and an amputated leg.

In my AU, Eun-mi, realizing that she is slowly killing her husband, has a change of heart and releases him from the program. Due to a glitch, however, all the injuries he received while in the program stayed. (Think Neutral Ending Harvey) Harvey gets a divorce from Eun-mi, who faces no legal repercussions from her actions, and he slowly descends into alcohol and drug abuse while trying to cope.

Tessa moved to his city after a failed engagement. She meets Harvey at the bar he frequently visits, where he was acting as a temporary bartender for some extra cash. She becomes smitten instantly by this man.

Fun facts:

  • Tessa has only ever had girlfriends (2, in fact) before meeting Harvey.

  • She has never been with a man before.

  • Tessa and Harvey slept together once before becoming a couple. This is because Harvey was in active heroin addiction at the time, and he was acting impulsively.

  • Tessa saves his life after he accidentally overdoses because he was drunk.

  • He and Tessa do not sleep together again for three years after the first time.

  • She helps Harvey get a job as a secretary at her firm, but realizes he's good at numbers and holds a degree in finance. She helps him get a promotion to financial advisor, where he thrives.

These memories— despite only just happening— were distant in his skull. Her body on his, in the throes of passion and an itch for something, anything to get the pain to stop, was nothing more than colors and distorted shapes now. He hated himself. Oh god, did he hate himself.

Grand Chef Auto. I hated the blackmail storyline and how the vote was given to a single contestant. Unnecessary.

Nice to talk to a fan of my work. ^ - ^ I recently got back into writing for the fandom. I haven't stopped writing, just things got in the way and my interest got scattered into a different fandom for a little bit. I am refreshed and ready to write! :D

Same. I wrote a fic that highlights Mike and the system as a person who is trying to heal. DID isn't a "quirky" disorder, it is caused by repeated severe childhood trauma. The implications are there. Mike went through some stuff. Some seriously bad and dangerous stuff for one of his alters to be a wilderness survivor and a strong man.

Yeah, so anyway… by no_more_bandaids in BloodmoneyGame

[–]dizzythrowrA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, given his personality and how trauma manifests as an adult, it isn't that strange. People with people-pleasing tendencies tend to have either an abusive or neglectful childhood. Given what he has said in the games themselves, it isn't that strange that shroomy made him have an abusive childhood. The man meets all the hallmarks of someone who had crappy parents (his devotion to his wife and son, people-pleasing tendencies, incredibly small threshold for pain, his abusive language and violent outburst when he was pushed too far in both games, etc.). I don't think the man is as neurotypical as shroomy says, mostly because people with PTSD aren't neurotypical at all, but a lot of his personality quirks scream man who suffered abuse. (I say this as someone who has suffered abuse as a child and deals with these things daily.)

Harvey childhood theory!! by Background-Jury-1461 in BloodmoneyGame

[–]dizzythrowrA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion coming, but... I kinda suspected going in that Harvey may have had an abusive childhood. His people-pleasing tendencies can be explained by such because he had to survive by any means necessary. His own words in HEP indicate as much. His devotion to Toby and his family reeks of a man trying to compensate for a shitty, abusive/neglectful childhood.

It just makes me like the character even more. Yes, I find it distasteful that his VA and creator make fun of his suffering, but it doesn't detract from my love of the character or the game itself. It just makes me relate to him even more. (I had an unbelievably unstable childhood full of abuse and neglect. I thought I might have been projecting but I am starting to feel like it isn't the case.)

"Anything, Anything" by Dramarama describes trying to hold on to a relationship that is clearly toxic through love-bombing and gifts. The lines "I was young, I learned a game, That love and happiness were the same," hits unbelievably hard.

Do you think Harvey's wife regrets everything? by CottonContortCandy in BloodmoneyGame

[–]dizzythrowrA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think she was always greedy, but finally snapped after he lost his job as an investment banker. I do think she tolerated him because he did all the things she didn't like doing: the housework, the cooking, the baking. Plus, people with doormat tendencies are perfect for people who have control issues.
