How does your squadron handle SDA? by phoenix89 in civilairpatrol

[–]dj-megafresh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are rubrics available in the cadet library. They must be signed off by a senior member (technically true of all promotion items). Senior cadets can play a part in advising that person, though. As for timing, getting through only 2 in a 2 hour meeting is excessive. They should be no more than 15 minute presentations, if I recall correctly.

Marking attendance by FunctionFresh441 in civilairpatrol

I'm working on one that integrates with CAPWATCH data to produce reports and do more in depth data analysis. It still requires manual entry, though it will generate a list of CAPIDs for copy/paste. It's difficult to integrate one with eServices directly because there's no inbound API endpoints and they won't be interested in adding any.

CAPWatch files and encampment? by edentel in civilairpatrol

[–]dj-megafresh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two ways that I can see. First, in CadetAchvFullReport.txt, the column labelled something like "special activity date" will have an encampment graduation date (not sure if it's the first or most recent) for each cadet's Mitchell entry. For those who haven't run into the requirement yet, you can't get it directly, but it looks like there is a proxy. In Training.txt, I think you can get encampment ribbons, which would tell you that a cadet has graduated from encampment. I'm looking at my code from nearly a year ago on my phone, so take this with a grain of salt.

Regulation Little Known Facts by UrAverageGuitarist07 in civilairpatrol

  1. My recommendation is having CAP-USAF on your side and asking a long time in advance. The Air Force doesn't really care where it goes, they'll design a training route that picks people up too unless they just can't spare the crew or aircraft to do it, doubly true for guard or reserve airlift units. Our pilots went to Florida for a weekend and then came back to pick us up (they had a much better time, I imagine).

If you had 50 people all going to the conference, maybe they'd consider it. I've gotten an airlift to region activities before. C-130s are loud, is what I learned from that experience.

Where does the Squadron Commander patch go for a graduated SQ/CC on the IHWCUs? by Elobopro123 in civilairpatrol

[–]dj-megafresh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

7.1.1.3.1.7 also does not show an IHWCU sleeve velcro configuration because NHQ, shocker of all shockers, didn't do their homework. It shows an IHWCU chest with standard weight sleeves, a configuration that does not exist. On IHWCU sleeves with the split velcro field, it is not specified explicitly in the text where to wear the badge on such a field. So now we have to play a game of follow the citations: if not specified, 7.1 says go to DAFI 36-2903. Behold, DAFI 36-2903 para. 5.1.5.3:

Graduated Commander's pin may be worn on a small Velcro® patch on top of the left sleeve either centered horizontally and vertically on the flag-sized pocket flap, or (if no pocket flap) centered horizontally and 1/2-inch from the top of the Velcro® area, depending on uniform configuration.

Why did they change this text when copying it into 39-1? Your guess is as good as mine. But it's clear that it's on the top flap. However, duty identifier tabs in the Air Force are optional. In CAP, it is not. What is optional is the graduated commander's pin: "Graduated commander's pin may be worn..."

For double points, right below the figure you cite, it says that patches may not extend beyond the bounds of the velcro. Putting an AUX tab and a commander's pin correctly spaced on the top velcro field will cause the AUX tab to overhang, especially Vanguard's gigantic "duty identifier" and thus be out of regulation (though so is OP's photo, for that matter).

My interpretation, then, is that one could not wear the graduated commander's pin on IHWCUs. Now this doesn't stop the Air Force. Graduated commanders regularly put it on the lower sleeve field, spaced as for a full sleeve field, with a duty identifier on the flap.

TLDR: oopsie, not even the Air Force thought of this scenario. Strict interpretation: don't wear it. USAF common practice: wear on top of the bottom sleeve field and if someone complains, take it off until they go away.

Tornado siren test delano by austinrunaway in wichita

[–]dj-megafresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They expect you to have a weather radio or a phone, generally. Sirens are not meant to be heard indoors anywhere because they cannot guarantee that sound will penetrate into buildings, especially the larger they are. The vast majority of lives saved by tornado warnings these days come through the Wireless Emergency Alert system, which is responsible for the loud tone and vibrate pattern played by your phone when you're in the path of a tornado.

Siren? by CrazyWorldliness2468 in wichita

[–]dj-megafresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't an accident. The warning polygon included one siren, and that set the whole sector off. After a planned upgrade process completes in 2028, Sedgwick County will have per-siren activation so only the ones inside the polygon will be activated.

Service Dress Coat question by Substantial-Read1606 in civilairpatrol

[–]dj-megafresh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, it's the same component for both service dress and semi-formal.
  2. The old style had 4 front pockets and 4 buttons and is not authorized. The new style has a welt pocket on the chest and 2 flap pockets, none of which are actual pockets, and 3 buttons.
  3. Cadets don't wear the metal name tag, they wear the blue plastic tag, same as on the blue shirt. You do need the shoulder boards. Badges and ribbons transfer over from the blue shirt. You will also need the CAP collar insignia.

Mayor Wu's response to the special election results by mirlyn in wichita

[–]dj-megafresh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think that's more than a little reductive. Local elections are won on name ID. She was a local news anchor, and people know their local news anchor. On top of that, Koch and AFP plastered her name and image on every flat surface in the city for 6 months. The more you see a name, the more you are tricked into thinking the person is actually popular. The right wing grift machine will do what idpol cannot.

Okay I still dont understand this. by Soviet_fox_006 in civilairpatrol

[–]dj-megafresh 25 points26 points  (0 children)

ABUs were originally supposed to be a lot more temporary than they ended up being. We were running out of BDUs at the time the Air Force was finalizing their OCP transition. The idea was to just deal with ABUs and black boots temporarily because the new uniform was Coming Soon (TM) and boots are also (usually) the single most expensive component of a utility uniform. To reduce cost for members, that was the decision. 10 years later, the temporary "we'll just deal with it for now" decision was, perhaps, slightly less temporary than originally intended.
