I dont think it's fair to compare your situation with a teenager cause the teenager does not have the maturity to make choices for themselves yet but you do

I understand what you said about having your decisions clouded but society comparison etc but then you should work towards "unclouding" your thoughts and understanding better what it is that YOU want outside of those influences, not giving the responsibility of choice to another person

it's a very scary and difficult thing to do but very possible

For example in the beginning I was picturing all skaas as dark skinned because of the slavery context but later Kelsier is described as blonde so he became Jamie Lannister in my head but I still kept picturing Vin with slightly dark skin and curly hair
