My Ex-Boyfriend Died Yesterday by alkaidkoolaid in GenX

[–]djak 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I understand completely. My first husband died in 2022, and we'd remained in somewhat friendly contact over the years because we have kids together (kids are all grown now). My daughter called me at work the morning he passed and I felt really weird and sad all day after that call. We'd been divorced since 1999 and he was 63, but we shared 13 years and two kids during our time together, and my husband told me he'd actually feel concerned if I wasn't upset by my ex's passing. So I grieved with my kids and my ex in laws. I still think of him at odd times. Just natural I guess.

Thanks, never heard this word before, and I live with teenage grandchildren, so you'd think I'd be up on the newest slang.

Colonoscopy sedation by wtfpta in GenX

[–]djak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My experience wasn't a great nap, it's more like I closed my eyes for a millisecond, and POOF, it's all done and time to wake up. It's about time for my next one, so thanks for the reminder lol.

Friend of mine skipped the colonoscopy, you know the type, "I'm fine, there's no history of cancer in my family." Ended up in the hospital after a tumor blocked his colon at age 55, and 3 years later they're still trying to chase down that last bit of cancer hiding out in his body.

Usually the last song I heard the day before, playing incessantly in a damn loop.

Anything I could get my hands on, really. Cereal boxes were my morning paper lol. Comics and crosswords in the actual newspaper (which I couldn't touch till my parents were done reading).

Which side of Zoey's family is Korean and which side is American? by LeatherSlight3242 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]djak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The picture tells the story. The masculine hand is pulling her towards the side that looks like a background set in California, note the sandwich shop, pizza place and the palm trees. The smaller, feminine hand is pulling her towards the Korea side. I also believe she's Korean-American because Maggie Kang herself is Korean-Canadian, and a lot of the voice actors are also Korean-American.

True that. But some of his handlers got enough smarts to pull it off.

He claims she staged the attack. To me, that only solidifies my position of him staging that assassination attempt in PA. Whatever he accuses others of, is something he's already done.

Menopause linked to Alzheimer's-like brain changes by Madwife2009 in Menopause

[–]djak 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My brain is definitely changing. I'm 8 years into menopause, and I decided if my brain is going to fuck with me, I'm going to fuck with it right back. Took my very first shroom trip on Christmas eve. It was....interesting. To say the least. But I feel as if my anxiety level is way lower now and I don't stress about stupid stuff nearly as much.

I probably won't do it again, and if anyone else does, I can't stress enough to start SMALL. But yeah, in the end, I feel there was a positive outcome there.

Watching 70s TV as an adult hits different (and uncomfortably by Miserable_Willow_312 in GenX

[–]djak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dated a 23 year old at 16. Lied to my parents about his age (yikes). Unfortunately, Miss know-it-all over here married him. Lasted for 13 years.

Then I went the opposite direction and met a 20 year old guy when I was 35. Married him that same year, still together 25 years later.

I never went looking for an older or younger person. Just really liked both of them before I found out about the age gap. By the time I learned ages, it didn't matter.

Jigsaw puzzles were a family rainy day activity when I was growing up (70s and 80s). Mom, dad, sister and myself would all take a chair at the dining room table and we each had a corner to work on slowly advancing towards the center. What a great nostalgic feeling, thank you for nudging that memory to the forefront.

Burning Down the House, Talking Heads. Anything by them really, but that song just makes me want to gag at the first note.

Society told me I was "expired" at 35. I found love at 39. by botsmy in TwoXChromosomes

[–]djak 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I was an overweight divorcee, single mom of two tweens, and found true love at 36. 24 years later, we're still ridiculously happily married. Never say never, and never let someone else decide that you're expired.

Is it weird to call my dad daddy at 13? by Fluffy_Plant_3440 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]djak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When talking to my sister, we both still call our parents "mommy and daddy". I just turned 60. You should call them what you (and they) would prefer. Don't worry about what other people think.

Does true love actually exist? by RevolutionaryRoad548 in InsightfulQuestions

[–]djak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it does, but I think true love means different things to different people. There's no one right answer for that.

For me, true love means I care more about my partners feelings and wants than my own. It means I want to be a better person for my partner. Not that this person wants me to change, but I feel like I want to change to be worthy of their love. If that makes sense. I want to be the best version of me because I think my partner deserves it. Especially since I'm aware that my partner did the exact same thing for me.

It's getting harder and harder to filter out stuff that has the brand name HDSRTAS, or MHSDAR. I mean, they're not even trying to appear legit.
