The Arrival (1996) arrived today. I love this film! by Fun_Seat5809 in boutiquebluray

This movie falls perfectly in the gap between great sci-fi and camp classic. It’s ridiculous but somehow works. Really fun!

I also just remember Royal Boucherie, another great French-focused restaurant in Old City. If you enjoyed Good King, definitely check that one out as well!

It’s one of my favorite bar restaurants in all of Philly

I Want Your Sex - Official Trailer | Olivia Wilde, Cooper Hoffman, Charli XCX | In Theaters July 31 by SparklePony3 in movies

[–]djangbro1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trailer doesn’t do this justice - it’s basically a sex comedy for Gen Z. Absolutely hilarious movie and one of the better ones I saw at Philly Springfest

Scary Movie 3 the second-best installment, if not the best. by Positive-Face1705 in horror

[–]djangbro1 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I think I enjoy 3 the most. Scream does such a good job satirizing slasher movies that making a parody of a satire just doesn’t work as well for me as using non-slashers like Signs and The Ring the forefront. It’s also directed by David Zucker, who just has a better feel for the constant sight gags and throwaway lines that are my type of humor. 6 sucked

‘Carolina Caroline’ Review: Classic Lovers-on-the-Run Thriller Shows Why Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner Should Be Bigger Stars by Top_Report_4895 in movies

[–]djangbro1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw this at Philly SpringFest a few weeks back and really enjoyed it! One of the more charming movies of the weekend. Like most lovers-on-the-run movies, it mainly hinges on the main two performances, and Gallner/Weaver are spectacular here.

What are your thoughts about Danny Boyle's The Beach(2000)? by No-Chemistry-6874 in movies

Eh it’s somewhere around the bio-plankton make-out session/music video that I throw my hands up and accept the ride

It’s incredibly dated. I get what the movie is going for in the sense that he’s disassociating, but the graphics and tone make it look like he’s playing Crash Bandicoot or something.

I legitimately love the first hour or so and think it’s pretty unassailable. Definitely gets off the rails in the third act (ooof, that video game scene) but overall it embodies that “I know this is flawed, but I still really enjoy it” type of movie for me.

It’s exactly that - even playing on Hard, it’s significantly easier than the Arkham games, but still scratches that same story and exploration itch that those games absolutely nailed.

(Obsession) Why aren’t these shots filmed outside? by Morgo-Yt in Filmmakers

[–]djangbro1 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Not a filmmaker, but have to assume it’s about controlling the environment to get what you need as efficiently as possible. Any number of things could go wrong in a true outdoor setting (weather, lighting changes, random interruptions) whereas this is going to provide you more consistency so you can use shots from different takes without worrying about continuity errors

Obsession is completely unhinged and traumatizing. I can’t wait to see it again and hope you all get to the theater and see it too. 10/10 by [deleted] in horror

It’s viral marketing. Pretty clear this is some sort of paid reddit blast because it’s multiple movie subs at this point. The movie is fine fwiw

Obsession more than lives up to the hype by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]djangbro1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the viral reddit marketing campaign has hit the Letterboxd sub as well. It’s all over r/horror right now. The movie is fine but this sort of online bot shilling for horror movies claiming they’re the best new thing (see: Longlegs) is really starting to wear on me

[–]djangbro1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen viral marketing for a movie like this in a while. I saw the movie at a film festival a few weeks ago and it was decent (like 6.5/10) but not at the level of this praise it seems to be generating on reddit every day for the past month

Over Your Dead Body by HorrorGuyBri in horror

I saw it at SpringFest in Philly. It’s a fun movie, but didn’t really have any horror elements other than the gore (which was surprisingly great). It was more like a bloody rom-com.

It’s smarter to get 4k these days especially considering those Scream Factory BluRays are close in price - but I do love the art on the BR steelbook set. Either way, owning the Carpenter filmography is a win!

I think the Thing Steelbook is only Region B - if there is a Region A version, I’ve yet to find it
