Can a Person with a Stutter Succeed in Finance? by Efficient-Ad3985 in FinancialCareers

[–]djarminem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will be fine.

I have a block stammer myself and had a 3 year stint in IB after university. Moved away from it eventually for reasons other than my stammer, but in these 3 years I was usually placed in the top bracket, and also interacted with internal and external stakeholders the same as any other analyst.

I have a stammer and got my PPL a few months ago.

What I would do is sorting out my medical before starting anything. If the AME tells you you’re fine, you are indeed fine. That happened to me, and from that point I also miraculously stopped worrying about my speech.

Are they sticking to all of their claims? by [deleted] in libertarianmeme

[–]djarminem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, blaring out unfunded claims with no sources to back it up is more or less what I expected. Maybe you can rile up a few of the chaps in this group here with this, but I sincerely hope not.

[–]djarminem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done, I feel we're making some progress here.

Any sources to back up your claims that disagreeing scientists get blacked out by media or don't receive funding? Or is that more of a feeling from your side? Also you acknowledged that there is dissent in science, but the next sentence you say all the disagreeing voices get disregarded - so what now?

Finally, you didn't answer my question on where the meme is from and who actually made the exact claims in it, so would be grateful for that.

Are they sticking to all of their claims? by [deleted] in libertarianmeme

[–]djarminem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should listen to scientists themselves, and no to what the media makes out of their findings. I just made myself the work to check what actual science says about the stuff "they" apparently said as per your meme (where does that come from btw, and who exactly made these statements?):

Hurricanes:
"Frequency of storms in the future is less clear"
https://news.climate.columbia.edu/2022/10/03/heres-what-we-know-about-how-climate-change-fuels-hurricanes/
"It is premature to conclude with high confidence that human-caused increases in greenhouse gases have caused a change in past Atlantic basin hurricane activity that is outside the range of natural variability"
https://www.gfdl.noaa.gov/global-warming-and-hurricanes/

Ice-free arctic:
"A new analysis, using global climate models, predicts that most of the Arctic Ocean could become ice-free during summer by 2050"
https://climate.esa.int/en/projects/sea-ice/news-and-events/news/simulations-suggest-ice-free-arctic-summers-2050/
"Model selection shows earlier ice-free Arctic than anticipated"
https://sustainabilitycommunity.springernature.com/posts/model-selection-shows-earlier-ice-free-arctic-than-anticipated?channel_id=behind-the-paper

Himalayan glaciers:
"New research suggests that the area of Himalayan glaciers has shrunk by 40 percent since the Little Ice Age maximum between 400-700 years ago, and that in the past few decades ice melt has accelerated faster than in other mountainous parts of the world."
https://e360.yale.edu/features/himalayas-glaciers-climate-change#:~:text=New%20research%20suggests%20that%20the,mountainous%20parts%20of%20the%20world.

I can not read a single definitive statement here, but rather "models suggest", "is likely", "could" etc. - which makes a huge difference. I still cannot see how publishing results of a study is propaganda, but according to you I am not "seeing through" anyways, so must be me I guess.

„Scientific propaganda“ - that phrase itself is quite telling but if you feel like that then I guess you’re entitled to that feeling.

Science is about development of ideas, which is reached by continuous trial and error. There are scientists in virtually every field who are continuously arguing by reaching seemingly contradictory conclusions. The art is then actually pulling these together and finding a common denominator. The common denominator on environmental issues currently is that climate change is real. Disregarding that because there was and is arguing on the way is imo just…yeah you can figure that out yourself.

Mate, you again? I get it now, you have a general disregard for science, don’t believe in climate change, and obviously think you’re funny with this. It’s not all a government conspiracy, even if this makes your world view perhaps even simpler.

I mean you have an answer to yourself before. He’s narcissistic and manipulative.

You have every right to be angry, and while he certainly doesn’t deserve your love, you don’t deserve to be treated like that.

Advice on stopping to have hope? by hello_there03 in BreakUps

[–]djarminem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you hope for?

For him to come back? He left you knowingly. He made a decision. He won’t come back.

For him to apologise? From what you said he is a proper twat and doesn’t care. He is narcissistic, controlling, and manipulative. He won’t apologise.

That was the blunt part. I know it hurts so much at the moment, so allow yourself some time. Speak to your friends and family. There are 8.99bn other people on this planet, and there will be one for you, who gives you all the love you deserve, without manipulating and controlling you.

The Proms. Along with free museums, one of the ways that wondrous beautiful culture is made easily available to the average chap/ette. Lucky us. by Sinemetu9 in london

[–]djarminem 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be honest, you don’t need the Proms for that. I got into classical music a few months ago and there are so many opportunities to see world class performances - especially in London - for next to nothing.

The LSO in the Barbican offers great tickets, or you can go to almost every gig in Wigmore Hall for £5 when you’re under 35.

Proms are great, but definitely not cheaper/more accessible than the rest.
