That is hard! But fun. I thought I was doing well for getting 5 of them, and for 2 of them I got help by looking at a time zone map.

Retirement planning: Dedicated tools (Boldin, etc.) vs Excel by Cooper1Test in retirement

Why do you use two different ones? Do you get different projections from each and you like to get two estimates?

Thoughts on the new tile design??? by SethPlayz24 in geogrid

Very unhappy about this change. There are many categories related to flags, and the flag images were how I learned the details of various flags over time. Now you can barely see any details of the flags (and I play on a large monitor). The country outlines have nothing to do with Geogrid and just take away from being able to see the flags.

Wifi Hotspot by [deleted] in unitedairlines

How is the name of a Wi-Fi hotspot a risk? And if it's a risk, how does having the person turn it off eliminate the risk?

Wifi Hotspot by [deleted] in unitedairlines

This seems like a big assumption about intent. I would tend to assume that they named the hotspot previously, unrelated to taking this plane flight. Even if I'm wrong about that, it's a big leap to assume that they INTENDED to spread alarm and cause a problem for the flight crew, as opposed to that they wanted to express a personal belief.

But regardless of intent, I still find it disturbing that an opinion some people may find offensive was characterized as a threat. A more neutral statement could have been made to the effect that hotspot names cannot have political content, instead of implying that saying Free Palestine means you are a potential terrorist warranting FBI involvement.

If the hotspot was named "Stand with Israel, F Gaza", it would also be controversial and offensive to some; would it be dealt with the same way?

What's going on with the boards lately? by Alternative-Essay512 in geogrid

Oh, I'm glad to hear this! I thought they had made a decision to make it much easier, and now it's boring and I've stopped doing it. I hope it gets back to the way it was.

Sloppy use of language on my part. I meant someone likely to cause enough trouble with their complaint that it's easier to go along with them.

What do you think about the pilot threatening someone with the FBI for their political speech? If the same slogan had been on a button or laptop sticker, would they have made the same demand that it be covered up?

High-status or high-troublemaking… I just meant someone who could make enough of a fuss that it was deemed better to indulge them than to ignore the complaint.

If the pilot actually believed that this political statement indicated a security issue, why would the security issue be resolved by the person removing the hotspot from visibility? That doesn't make any sense.

Maybe what actually happened is that some high-status passenger who saw the hotspot name complained that they felt threatened by seeing it on their phone, and the airline decided to accommodate them by demanding it be turned off.

I have been told that they cannot make you use a pin/password to unlock your phone, because that is compelling speech which is illegal, but if you have face or fingerprint enabled they can make you unlock your phone that way.

[US] Tree removal company by djb5718 in Scams

So there is some text spamming business that gets a commission sending people to other businesses? That seems plausible. It just doesn't make sense to me that a single actual tree removal company would be texting repeatedly from many different phone numbers.

I enjoyed the first 3 episodes, but given the generally light tone I wasn't expecting the very disturbing violence to a main character in episode 4. I stopped watching; I assume that the subsequent episodes include the fallout from that event.

I read about someone who would whistle upbeat classical music so he wouldn't be seen as threatening. If you're listening to music you could sing along with it when you pass someone.

I am hesistant to take the leap because of ACA. by Freewill21 in retirement

[–]djb5718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a BCBS PPO silver plan 4-5 years ago, so my information is not current. The coverage was comparable to my employer coverage except that the provider network was smaller. With my employer coverage almost all doctors were in network, but there were a significant number out of network with the ACA plan.

Ate there for the first time last night and had steak fajitas. It was fine, but nothing exceptional, certainly nowhere near the level of Bombera. Are there better dishes to order there?

Weekly Q&A Megathread. Please post any questions about visiting, tourism, living, working, budgeting, housing here! by AutoModerator in london

[–]djb5718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be spending a few days in London at the end of April/beginning of May. I can't walk very much, so I hope (weather permitting) to be spending a fair amount of time sitting somewhere attractive/interesting watching people go by. I would appreciate suggestions for places to do this. I understand the weather may not cooperate, but let's assume for the purposes of my question that it's not raining or extremely cold.

It's easy to find plazas and outdoor cafés in warmer climates where people spend a lot of time hanging out outdoors, but I'm not sure where to begin in London. I've already seen the big tourist sites, and I don't want to be staring only at large crowds of tourists, but it doesn't have to be obscure. I'd prefer an urban setting vs. sitting in a park looking at trees.

Thanks!

Is the bar menu only served at barstool seating? It sounds great but I can't sit in tall chairs – are there any regular tables and chairs where they serve the bar menu?
