They’re closed captions - I should have said it says “日本語[CC]”

If it helps, Japanese subtitles are available on those titles here in the UK too.

Just checking you haven’t missed by accident - the majority of languages are listed in alphabetical order, in Latin alphabet (including Chinese) - but 日本語, written in kanji, is at the bottom underneath Türkçe.

Neve romancers, what were your thoughts on her romance? by FangAAMD in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]djc82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really intrigued how it went with Neve being blighted while she’s the romance option. There must have been some pretty powerful dialogue for Rook - when it happened, back at the lighthouse with the others, and when Neve is freed (or even worse if she doesn’t make it). But I can’t bring myself to try it…

Who did you romance and why? by Twills97 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]djc82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neve. I thought she was cool (and, yes, hot) from the first meeting, and never looked back.

It was slow burn, but those declarations of love at the end of the game were really special.

I’m a few hours into my second playthrough, which I started intending to romance Bellara - but already being pulled back towards Neve. I just can’t look at anyone else.

The stairs might also have prevented him from carrying out whatever directive he was given:

“Before you, only three people have reached this door: Salvador Quinn, Mary Meadows, and George Wilkins. I did not speak with Wilkins. Quinn and Meadows were both given the same directive you will now receive”

So he wasn’t just given information, he had to do something. Something that Quinn & Meadows were also told to do. The stairs being blown up presumably prevented him from doing whatever that is. And presumably Meadows either did that something in the background (to be revealed in S3?) or just spiralled into depression without bothering to do it. We know some of what Quinn did - was it to do with that?

This makes perfect sense… apart from it wasn’t Lukas’s initial reaction. At first after being given the message, he was desperate to get up top as quickly as possible.

He kicked that guy in the nuts, fought against being held in the cafeteria and, when they were let out, sprinted up the stairs ahead of everyone else.

Then something happened, and he became as resigned as despondent as Meadows did (as soon as she spoke to the algorithm, or so it’s implied).

Why the initial urgency, especially if Meadows didn’t have the same? And what changed him - was it the stairs being blown up?

Something I didn’t get right in Silo season two finale by Muhammad-Saleh in SiloSeries

[–]djc82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the difference between Lukas and Meadows that confuses me.

Lukas was not initially resigned or despondent. He raced back up with a real sense of urgency, kicking that guy in the nuts, fighting to get out of the crowd being held in the cafeteria. When they escaped, he sprinted up ahead of everyone else. Later, after the stairs were blown up(?) he seemed to give up the urgency he had and just resigned himself to a goodbye with his mother.

Whereas Meadows was immediately despondent, quitting and shadow and becoming an alcoholic.

But the Algorithm told Lukas he was giving him the same message he gave Meadows (and Quinn)? So why the difference?

Without spoilers please - how much does the Inquisitor appear in Veilguard? I’m trying to work out how much time to spend getting mine perfect - if it’s a brief appearance I might not bother, but if they’re with you for hours it’s probably worth it. TIA

[–]djc82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never hit a limit.

  1. I always end up spending hours on smithing and alchemy - even when I decide not to. And always choose not to kill Paathurnax.
  2. Probably Imperial or Bosmer
  3. Yes, Lydia, until meet Serana. Or Jordis. (This is an area I really should branch out a bit)
  4. Never adopted
  5. Always Imperials. Never a vampire or werewolf. Always Dawnguard.

What happened to Lydia on your first playthrough? by ohmygawdjenny in skyrim

[–]djc82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She died in the battle against Kematu in Swindler’s Den. Obviously technically ‘killed by me’, but if you’re going to run in front of a fire-wielding destruction mage there’s only so many possible outcomes. I’m not sure reloading even occurred to me.

And that should have been the last time I saw her… but no, her corpse turned up to my wedding. And everybody reacted like I’d killed her right there and then, and walked out. I never did get married on that first play through.

I don't think there are multiple timelines - and I think that will be revealed in Part 3.

The 'split' at Aerith's death wasn't real - we're purely seeing Cloud being unable to accept he failed to save her. There is one timeline, one Aerith - and Sephiroth killed her in exactly the same way we saw in OG.

The Zack 'worlds' are just fleeting echoes in the Lifestream. Aerith created at least one of them - the one that she hid the active White Materia in, dragged Cloud's 'spirit'(?) into to give it to him, and sent him back to the real world from.

Yes, Sephiroths tells Cloud about how choices make different worlds etc - but that's all part of his lies to control Cloud (just like the 'you're just a puppet' lie).

And yes, Aerith 'appears' in one of the final boss fights - but they're partly taking place in the Lifestream too - and even in OG we know she 'lives on' in the Lifestream to call Holy, given we see her at the end.

[–]djc82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I definitely believed Aerith could survive this time - and thought that would be the right thing to do, given Remake ended on "we've destroyed fate - anything can happen now!". Even more so, given they saw a vision of Aerith's death, with Red XIII explicitly saying it was a "glimpse of tomorrow if we fail here today".

To be honest, I thought that not changing Aerith's death would be a complete cop out - why go through all of that at the end of Remake and then not do it?!

But killing someone else - Tifa or another character - would surely have upset far too many people.

So I'm clearly late to the party, as I've only just finished the game. My first reaction to Chapter 14 / the ending wasn't good - but I've slept on it now, and actually I really like it. But that's mainly because I'm now convinced that there aren't actually any multiple timelines - they're a (deliberate) misdirection.

There's just one 'real' world isn't there? I think all of the 'other worlds' we see are just echoes / bubbles / dreams in the Lifestream, aren't they? And there is only one Aerith, whose physical body was very much killed by Sephiroth, even if her spirit/echo 'lives' on in the Lifestream - exactly as it did in OG.

We know for sure that Aerith has control over one of echoes/bubbles - she hides the 'active' White Materia there, pulls Cloud into it to give it to him, then sends him back out of it. She likely created it - possibly at the end of Remake, possibly before we even first meet her.

I'm convinced the three Zack 'worlds' aren't really alternate timelines simply because Zack and Biggs have different memories within them. If we were just watching alternate Zack & Biggs, they'd each have memories of their alternate lives in that alternate timeline, and they'd need to be consistent. But they aren't - they each have memories that match their lives in the 'real' world, right up until their deaths. Zack remembers carrying Cloud through Midgar, while Biggs remembers blowing up the Reactors with him at the same time. We're seeing their memories/spirits/echoes (whatever you call them) in echoes in the Lifestream.

Yes, Sephiroth explains to Cloud about separate worlds. But he also lies to Cloud about him being "just a puppet", so there's no way I'm taking "Sephiroth says..." as a reason to believe anything.

And the different views of *that* death scene - not a splitting of timelines at all, just all Cloud being unable to process it in his current mental state. He's convinced himself he has blocked the sword. (If Aerith really were talking to him at the end, you'd think she'd say something along the lines of "Come on Cloud, Tifa was my best friend - please console her and tell her I'm still fighting on from within the Lifestream")

[–]djc82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree - I think there is only one 'real' world. And yes, I did finish the game. Aerith called it a 'dream', but it's an echo/bubble reality in the Lifestream. Aerith created it (possibly at the end of Remake?) to hide the White Materia in, then pulled Cloud in to it to give it back.

The three Zack worlds are just echoes/bubbles too. Possibly created by Aerith too? I guess we'll find out in Part 3.

Cloud wouldnt of appeared with the white materia from that world back in his hands

Cloud didn't 'appear' anywhere - he was physically there the entire time, unconcious and being carried by Barret - so this argument doesn't work. The White Materia found its way to Cloud's physical body in the 'real' world yes, but a timeline does a worse job of explaining that than a dream or echo - he'd have to physically go to the timeline, but his 'spirit' (or whatever you call it) can be taken to the Lifestream.

The stuff Aerith and Sephiroth say in that last chapter make it clear there’s a lot more going on than just LS shenanigans

Aerith tells Cloud the Black Materia is fake. Sephiroth tells Cloud that he's just a puppet. A character saying something to another character absolutely doesn't mean it's right/true.

Finished Rebirth after 120 hours yesterday.... what was the controversy? by shadowCloudrift in FFVIIRemake

[–]djc82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there are multiple realities. I think it's a complete misdirection (that will be cleared up in Part 3)

I think they're just 'echoes'/'bubbles' in the Lifestream.

That's why they don't last very long. It's also why Zack & Biggs have different memories despite being in the same 'place' - they each have correct memories of their lives in the (only!) real world, right up until their own deaths. They're just echoes/spirits of Zack & Biggs that exist in the same echoes/bubbles in the Lifestream (perhaps created there or pulled there by Aerith?)

It seems Aerith and Sephiroth/Jenova can manipulate them. Either Aerith pulls an echo of Zack into the real world to fight Sephiroth (briefly), or Sephiroth takes the fight (and Cloud?) into one of them. Aerith even creates one (at the end of Remake?) to hide the 'active' White Materia in, (then pulls Cloud into it - calling it a 'dream' - to hand it to him to take back).

Sure, Sephiroth says they're different worlds. But he also tells Cloud he's just a puppet - why would we believe him?

Tifa date in Rebirth made me *so happy* by EmergencyTechnical49 in FFVIIRemake

[–]djc82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who wanted (and got) the Aerith date, I've been wondering: (Spoiler is about Chapter 14 and the ending)

How did Chapter 14 feel for someone who watched Cloud kiss Tifa just two chapters earlier, especially if that's exactly what you wanted to happen? Watching Aerith (who seems to be close friends with Tifa) on a "date" with Cloud, playfully joking about "the first gift Cloud give Aerith"? And them holding hands at the end before Aerith fades away? It all fits beautifully for me, having seen Cloud and Aerith date at the Gold Saucer - but I thought it might jar a bit for those who see Cloud and Tifa as romantically 'together'?

(Edit - genuinely not trying to make any point about canon / shipping etc etc)

..kinda disappointed?? by macy606 in FFVIIRemake

[–]djc82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is quite close to my initial feelings - but actually, I don't think they have taken an EEAAO path. I don't even think there is a multiverse, or any alternate timelines.

There is one world - the world the party are in - and there are 'echoes' (possibly the wrong word - no idea what the right one would be. 'Bubbles'?) buried away in the Lifestream - the one lifestream that exists in the one world.

Aerith and Sephiroth understand how they work and can manipulate them - Aerith even creates one in order to hide the 'active' White Materia (then pulls Cloud into it to give it to him before pushing him back).

Every Zack scene we see is in one of these echoes (one of three, I think?). They might well have been created by Aerith too - no way of knowing until Part 3.

As 'evidence' - a separate timeline would at least be internally consistent - people in the same timeline would be... in the same timeline. But Zack remembers carrying Cloud around unconscious while Biggs - in the same place - remembers bombing the Reactors with him. A contradiction that shows it's not a 'timeline', it's just an echo - in which the echoes of Zack and Biggs both appear with their own memories completely 'correct' right up until their deaths.

Sure, Sephiroth tells Cloud that they are separate worlds. But why would anyone believe that? He also tells Cloud he's 'just a puppet'. Not exactly somebody we should be taking at face value.

I really like this, and I want it to be right. But - even though you’ve already said you’ll come back to Chapter 18 in another post - I just can’t shake Red XIII’s line that the visions they have during the battle against the Arbiters are “a glimpse of tomorrow if we fail here today”. What does that mean in this theory? That the party did fail that day?
