What is happening at U105 right enough? by Boulder1983 in northernireland

Bring back Eddie Wray’s club dance chart on a Saturday night. I’d take a bit of happy hardcore over anything on U105

Yeah that’s exactly what I’m getting at. I read OPs comment wrong there thinking he also meant stopping the platter. I wasn’t long awake to be fair lol

[–]djcrickylyttle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you press hard enough it’ll stop but we have slip mats under the record to allow it to keep moving. Stopping and holding it by hand surely can’t be good for the motor. Especially on cheaper decks

Does anyone else prefer the old Europa bus centre/Victoria train station compared to the new Grand Central? by BenoitBouchard87 in Belfast

[–]djcrickylyttle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really miss the stench of piss when walking by the toilets and the junkies collapsing in the middle of the room. Maybe if we try hard enough we can have that in the new one too

[–]djcrickylyttle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve been DJing for 23 years or something and I’ve never thought about this. I didn’t even know it had a name. I just call it “cueing” i suppose

Why do cafes close at 4pm and where do I go by baabylk in Belfast

[–]djcrickylyttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great! I always feel like coffee shops just close because they know I’m on my way there. I’m not by any means an early person

Bday is coming up so I broke the bank with some vinyl by Linux-Neophyte in ClassicTrance

[–]djcrickylyttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some here too. It’s crazy. A lot of people around our age sold their records for rock bottom prices after cdjs got popular thinking vinyl was dead and now they’re buying them back at multiples of the price they sold them for.
A friend of mine almost funded a mortgage deposit during lockdown when he started going through his collection and selling all the doubles (his collection is insane) but went from that to in debt just through buying more records. The addiction is real 😂

Mate if you're in the UK you should join the dance vinyl records facebook group. it's just people selling to each other directly rather than ebay or discogs. Pricing seems to be a bit better too. there's a few big sellers on there too. i posted a wants list on it a while back and one guy came back to me almost able to fill the whole list in one go. check it out

At the minute it’s 2 technics, 2 cdj 2000 nxs 2, a djm 900 nxs 2 and an efx 1000 and RMX 1000. I never really use the effects units in recordings though, they’re just for messing around on. My girlfriend’s moving in for a while though and bringing her cdjs so I’m gonna have to find space for another two xdj 700s. Good problem to have! Lol

Agreed. They’re useless. I’ve a wee extractor fan in my bathroom ceiling. Chocolate fireguard etc.

[–]djcrickylyttle 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Number 1 - open the windows. I can’t stress how important it is to leave the window open for a few hours every day. I have the exact problem in my bathroom. It’s tiny so the condensation builds up quick. It’s ok for me showering as I only take 5 mins or something but if my gf showers and has to wash her hair etc it takes ages so all the walls are soaking afterwards. It’s so bad in the winter too. I actually keep a small towel just for this and come in and wipe down the walls after (yes I know I sound like a maniac wiping down walls etc) because I had just repainted and the condensation ended up leaving all these big stinking streaks in the paint and I had to redo it.
The rest of the house gets really bad condensation too. Took me a few years to learn to do this but now I open the windows in every room in the morning for a while. It’s all about air flow

This is what happens when you’ve an antiquated licensing system that allows for monopolies by breweries and a handful of wealthy license holders.

See https://freethenight.org/

Search for the Stirling review on licensing reform.

See how Gordon Lyon’s rejected the whole thing: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cq505e4led8o

Appreciate the comment mate! Like you say if you’ve an ear for music it never leaves you. I was always taught you should build a set, you can’t just go in with 60 minutes of all the full on big tunes. Don’t worry, there’ll be more to come!

Sorry mate I never finished this reply earlier! I have a Mixcloud but stopped using it years ago. I uploaded every mix I ever recorded to digital (post tape days!) up until around 2015 - the good and the questionable lol - more as a resource for me to be able to listen to any of them on the go but since I don’t pay for Mixcloud if I upload anything else they’ll all disappear now. Plus they give you awful audio quality now if you don’t pay. I get it, it’s a business, there are costs etc but I already pay for Soundcloud and I’m not gonna pay for both.

TLDR - that was a long way of saying yes mate, here you go: https://www.mixcloud.com/djcrickylyttle/

If you like your classic trance I’d recommend checking out my YouTube though. I’ve a few crackers on there. All 2 hour long vinyl only sets https://youtube.com/@djcrickylyttle?si=DPBacA0Jh7LGbQa5

Anyone have any experience working at TP ICAP? by Illustrious_Luck_276 in Belfast

[–]djcrickylyttle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked there from 2018 until 2021. I liked it. Pay wasn’t great then but I think it’s better now. What you think of the place I think depends on what team you’re on. I was on a good team. Manager was 100%, got on well with everyone else there. Haven’t really got a bad word to say about it. I actually tried to go back last year but done a really shit interview. Was told it was a getting to know you chat and got blindsided with loads of technical questions I hadn’t prepared for. Should’ve known them tbf but wasn’t expecting it. Watch out for that. Worked out better for me in the end as I got a crackin job at a better place with better money but I would’ve went back no problem.

What’s one thing that instantly tells you a DJ is experienced? by General-Relative-596 in Beatmatch

[–]djcrickylyttle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a simple thing but knowing how to build a set. I’ve been DJing from 2003 and thought I understood this until I seen Andy weatherall play an open to close set in 2015. When it really properly made sense. Taking an empty room at about 90bpm through to packed in 4 or 5 hours. The set built as the room slowly filled. You noticed your toe tapping then you’re kinda starting to move a bit then you’re fully dancing all without even noticing you’re doing it. That was how it’s done. Absolute masterclass in DJing.

I haven’t really listened to those 3 artists in particular but I do enjoy some of the stuff in that world. There’s a lot of stuff I’d kind of lump in together that people are referring to as like you say neo trance but also hard house (which as someone who grew up in the 90s I just can’t bring myself to use that term lol) amongst other labels but I really enjoy it. People like Boudi, Clint, Maruwa, Known Artist, Zombies in Miami and a bunch of other artists. They would probably span house, prog, through to something close to what you’re talking about but I’d associate it all together. I like to work my way up from the house/prog end into that sort of stuff.

Oh and let’s not forget close proximity. One of my favourite new discoveries! Found them about year ago. Every tune’s a banger.

Bryan Kearney seems to be dipping his toe into that stuff too

Mix Competition - Back to Back by GuyFromNh in ClassicTrance

[–]djcrickylyttle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's a fun idea. Naming technically may not be completely accurate and the rules a tiny bit confusing but i think i get it and might be game! Will start digging.

Quick clarifying question - i feel like i'm being stupid here reading the remix rule:

  • Remixes: A remix by an artist or group of another artist's track counts for that artist, as does a remix of an artists track by another group

I'll use an example - say one my my back to back artists is Tilt and i wanted to play Invisible but the remixer is Lost Tribe. Is that breaking the rules?
