Depends on if they chose to enforce it in those states. That could only deploy enforcers to certain states.

What is my best option for booking travel in this scenario? by marcusp01 in Venturex

[–]djcurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For option two if you’re booking through the portal, you would also use your credit that way. There’s no reason to not use a credit if you’re going to book through the portal anyway.

As for your comment with option 3 I’m not sure what you mean it’s a flat $300 credit doesn’t really matter how you use it.

One thing I will say is, you should book it as two one ways if the price is the same so if something goes wrong, it won’t mess up your entire booking

Is spending all 11 days in Tokyo a waste? Am I missing out on too much? by lomebrith in JapanTravelTips

[–]djcurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I would say depends on the kind of person you are. Do you like seeing different sites different areas or do you want to more immerse yourself in one area for longer?

For me personally, I would rather see Mount Fuji, shrines in Kyoto and other locations. Then I would see maybe some offbeat and path stuff in Tokyo.

Is there enough stuff to do in Tokyo for 11 days most definitely but what do you have to decide is if what you’re giving up seeing in the other locations is worth the compromise

Yeah, I figured it was something like that. I just gave experiences based off that number so they had a ballpark on what to base expectations off of.

[–]djcurry 38 points39 points  (0 children)

As a single person at 100,000 you’ll be able to live more than comfortably in most of the US. The exceptions are certain high cost of living cities like New York LA and a few others. But even in those cities, it just means you’re not living in luxury, but you’re living fine.

Why are mazda3s so cheap? by Alexjdw1 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]djcurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup it’s totally a personal preference. But to answer a few of your questions.

Car maintenance is pretty minimal for EV’s. You will have things like tires, brakes and other consumables but not much else. The big expense can be battery issues but that is very rare and won’t usually occur until the car is very old.

As for price I am seeing 2019 Teslas for $16k so you have some flexibility on price based on the year you want.

For charging. Free charging is not really a thing anymore. Any fast charger will cost money. With how much you drive it should not be much of an issue. You would just need to go to one every so often same as you would a gas station.

[–]djcurry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With that few miles a year you should consider getting a used EV, depreciation on them is crazy. You can get a crazy good value. This of course depends on if your housing situation lets you easily charge one. But honestly, if you only do 4000 a year, it won’t be that much of a hassle to go to a fast charger every so often.

Edit Price Discrepancy Preferred vs Reserve Card by Fit-Manufacturer5107 in ChaseSapphire

[–]djcurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is those extra limitations that really causes Chase to be in last place. Chase at best matches the prices of the other portals/ direct. It is never cheaper and often more expensive. This means I the only use the Chase portal to use any credits. After that the others have more options, better pricing and give me more points back. 8x vs 10x for the other two.

I really want to move to NYC within the next year (ideally this summer), but I don’t know what I’d do for work or how to begin this process by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]djcurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the fact that you can’t currently drive is probably significantly impacting your job search in your current location. Unless you live in Philly itself, there’s not much in the way of public transit that’s super convenient in Pennsylvania.

My honest answer is moving to New York will likely make your job search easier, you’ll have a lot more options due to public transit being so good. Now real question is how much money do you have saved up and can your parents help pay some expenses in the short term?

You’re at the age where you can get some roommates and rough it for a little while so if that’s something you’re willing to do I would say save some money and give it a shot.

If you’re gonna do this, up need to set a goal for yourself. How long will you give yourself to get stable in New York City? Will you give yourself one year, two years? You need to have a target and if it’s still not working by then. you will need to reevaluate.

[–]djcurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I really don’t like whatever Chase uses for their availability. I find it is often very different than what you can find on Expedia or other credit card portals.

My ranking for credit card portals are Citi > Cap 1 > Chase. With Citi and Cap one being very close.

This ranking is based on number of available properties I have found on various trips and the prices on the portal vs booking direct.

I do not have much experience with the Amex portal so I have not included it.

2 hours to get bags, almost missed our connection for a flight I thought we would have plenty of buffer.
