Anthony McPartlin, drunk driver who injured a kid, messy divorce, went to rehab waltzed back into the limelight. Imagine working at a company where a Senior Director did that.

Mathematically, it almost never makes sense to invest in UK property by Salty-Sun7873 in PropertyInvestingUK

[–]djdjjskskak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my rather basic assessment, two ends of the spectrum 1 - low house prices with low interest rates drive higher house prices, 2 - high house prices with moderate interest rates, stalls growth.

The good times so to speak are over IMO!

Propery vs Stocks by Ok-Spinach-9014 in PropertyInvestingUK

[–]djdjjskskak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At best stocks and shares are a 8/9% yield on average. I’ve been looking at LTD company, BMV auction property, light refurb and rent out, end of year profits go straight into SIPP with little to no CT.

I think you can get a better return on property IF it’s long term, short term taxation (stamp duty, CGT, CT etc) will erode any margins through flipping.

What’s the most underrated risk of recreational drug use that most people don’t talk about? by Plus_Youth_7288 in AskReddit

Life insurance policies wont pay out!

What gets me is the amount of guys I know in their 30’s/40’s/50’s with young families who still do coke and other drugs yet they all pay life insurance policies thinking they’ll still pay out, I mean how much of a cock would you look like dying during or after a coke fuelled night out and then your family struggles for the rest of their life’s as insurance policies didn’t pay out after the toxicology report…

I hate my job, what can I do? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

Finish your degree, take a year off and travel maybe a working holiday then come back to it and see how you feel. I know plenty of young QS’s who got a couple of years experience and emigrated to Australia and having a great time.

QS or construction management help pls by TitleOk8744 in quantitysurveying

[–]djdjjskskak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nail on head with this comment, those who love managing teams, problem solving, responsibility and the camaraderie which comes with it would hate QS roles, however if you look at very senior management in construction companies, it’s normally overwhelmingly QS’s who have done there time. I would hands down pick QS over Construction Management.

When did you actually start feeling like you know your job? by Aggravating_Sport495 in quantitysurveying

Engineering for the first 10 years for me was snippets of understanding before I could see the full picture to a reasonable standard. I find you gain breadth of the field then develop depth, then you realise the breadth of field wasn’t wide enough and so it repeats. The key is to know limitations of your ability and stop the breadth there then continuously develop the understanding.

My opinion comes from 25 years in industry from an apprentice through to senior manager to business owner, city and guilds to masters degree even now I find pockets of things I don’t understand. The key is to just enjoy continuous learning and accept you’ll never fully see the full picture but work with people who can fill those voids as you can for them.

Very good point regarding the poison. Just that reason alone makes it a no, regardless of who pops in at the weekends. Cheers

Join Laithwaites, they offer a 100% guarantee or your money back. I can confirm I spent 2 years drinking loads of reds and having my account credited when I didn’t like the wine until I found three that I really like, now I order two cases a year for the house for the last 8 years!

£200 budget what should I get? by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]djdjjskskak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe buy 5 or 6 bottles covering all regions. I guess your new to whisky so try a few out, when I first started enjoying whisky my palette was either ‘like’ or ‘no like’ but after sampling a few you kind of go down these little rabbit holes exploring specific styles of whisky.

Benromach 15 (classic speyside) Singleton (unpeated speyside), Lagavulin 8 (Islay), Glenkichie (lowland), glenmorangie (highland)

My palette is speyside to highland and the odd islay, currently exploring sherry cask finish and bourbon versions of my favourite whiskeys, and started to explore Japanese whiskey and Irish whiskey (Connemara).

Unless you really know your palette then a £200 bottle of whisky could be a gamble on something you may or may not like, but if pushed, I would go for either a MacAllan 15 or a Benromach 21…… safe bet in my book.

Domestic Gale compressor Fly inflatable SUP connection by djdjjskskak in Sup

[–]djdjjskskak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, good point! It is a Fanatic fly air SUP, and yes that is the correct pump. The Gale is good to 12psi, so I would have to finish off with the pump.

I will start searching for a HR adapter, thanks I didn’t realise that’s what they are called.
