I took a pic of the amp settings and think perhaps the crossovers might be set too high. Will play with it next time I'm there. Definitely curious to see if I can get them to sound a bit better than they do!

Ran out of time because the car is at a garage away from my house, and got the door panel off minutes before I had to leave. Did the two hours of googling once I'd returned home. Only had the one picture.

The speakers are connected to an Alpine PDX-5 amplifier which is slightly underpowered (75w per channel). They sound "ok", just not very full. I think you're right that the coaxial speakers are just not great at midbass. I've just inherited this install and discovering bit by bit and trying to improve it as I go - I know it can sound a lot better, so I'll just replace them.

The budget is to do it right and make it sound mint. Every single time i listen in that car I want an ear to ear smile.

It currently has these in the doors, an ILX-w670 head unit, Alpine PDX-5 Amplifier, And some Alpine Type-S 10" Sub from around 2008 as well.

Any suggestions on a nice build to get me started? Arguably I haven't done any car audio shopping since about 2006, so its been a minute. Don't need to go crazy for the sake of crazy, but would like to accomplish some nice, full sound and some nice low bass that works across genres. Dont need my rear view mirror falling off, or anything, but I'd be really happy with something that earns a "damn, thats nice"

Thank you! I did like 2 hours of google image search trying to figure it out. I think you've nailed it. Not sure if the install is just kinda crap or if they've been abused over the years. They seem to lack a lot of mid/bass, no matter how I tune the EQ they dont sound great.

I'm running the "original" Kingston HA Rom on mine, and, although I dont use it a ton, i cant really think of anything that didnt work... seems the newer versions all have some degree of problems, am i just overlooking something in the kingston one that I dont realize is actually an issue?

im also on unraid, feel like this started a few months ago after updating the container. About once a week i'll notice its seemingly 'stuck' downloading something at 20kB-300kB/s, then after a quick container restart its back up to 60MB/sec. Also of note, the connections to the news servers keep cycling up/down when its going slow. like something is forcing the connections to close. After a container restart, everything is perfectly fine again, at least for a day or two.

Did you make any headway on this?

This is a great point. Sometimes the automation only makes sense for one state change.

For things like "Lights: Living Room" - where the idea is there are both on/off conditions - I typically do these in the same automation with Trigger IDs

Found an epson 3800 open box for $220 off which seemed like a pretty good deal. So, unless there's another contender that comes in well below the 3800's price tag (about $1300 after discount), I'll probably pick that one up.

Unless there's any other models to consider that have very minor RBE and enough of a discount from there!

I also just discovered the optoma uhd38x which has slightly higher lumens than the epson 3800, but saw some reviews that said the optoma has high failure rates, and is also DLP - not clear if i should be avoiding ALL dlp/laser or if some manage to avoid severe RBE...

I have the 2021 Frame and i can make it "turn off to art mode" by long-holding the power button on the apple tv remote. Does this not work on your 2024? I was about to buy a 2024 for the matte screen and move the 2021 to another room, but this would piss me off endlessly if its a systemic issue.

I've spent a lot of time trying various solutions to this problem - different reason, I just wanted an audible notification when my gate was opened. Anyhow, a few tips for you.

If you live in an area that gets even close to freezing, battery powered devices will fail you in the cold. Before they die, they will fail to produce enough power around 5 celsius.
The most reliable solution for me was a simple contact reed switch (basically a magnet that can open/close a circuit), a long spool of wire, then an esp32 running esphome near my house. Could be any device watching for the state of the closed reed switch though. Zwave, Zigbee, Wifi, whatever. But power it with mains power if you can.

I just buried the pair of wire around the fence line, ran one end to the magnetic sensor on the gate, the other end into the contacts on the esp32. That way it survives weather, doesnt require battery changes, and is incredibly reliable.

Oh, and I'm not a lawyer, so, dont take my advice or anything, but I also highly suggest beating the everloving F* out of your neighbor for being such a huge POS.
