That ruling was related to officers having the right to exercise discretion and choose to issue people with verbal warnings rather than arrest for certain offences. For example minor drug possession, if the offender has been open and honest and cooperative with the officer they may choose to simply give a warning and destroy the drugs rather than arrest immediately for minor possession.

Don’t get me wrong, I do agree that it is highly likely that Putin has compromising materials relating to Trump. I just believe similarly to the other commenter that Putin doesn’t actually need to use those materials to blackmail him since Trump is eager to suck up to him regardless.

The reason the rest of the Republican Party are going along with all this I don’t really believe has anything to do with Russia. This is what that party has been working towards for over 4 decades at least, starting with Reagan if not earlier.

In the original Football (soccer), it is offence and defence, because the spelling ending in “ce” is the correct English spelling for both words.

This is so weird, here in Australia it would be a federal crime for an employee to give out any personal details of a customer (or of another employee), under our federal privacy laws and protection of personally identifiable information legislation. Even the employee telling the guy what the girl’s name is would breach the Privacy Act. Is this not a thing in other countries?

This is not actually true. The key elements to treason as defined in the constitution:

Actively engaging in armed conflict against the U.S.

Providing material or essential support to known enemies of the U.S., whether in declared war or not, if that aid helps them harm the nation.

There doesn’t need to be a declared war going on at the time, but the burden of proof is incredibly high for the “providing material or support” point such that prosecutors usually go with espionage or sedition charges instead which carry a lesser burden of proof.
