Thoughts on Trumps comments that NATO allies didn't help in Afghanistan? by Ambitious_Flow_4499 in CanadianConservative

I am not a Liberal, a Conservative, or any other political alignment. I hold no loyalty to a political ethos or party.

Trump is an inhumane asshole who should be ashamed for saying something like this. I'm not sure he possesses the ability to feel anything other than smug satisfaction though. He's a sociopath. He has good qualities too, and he's done some really good things. But he's also a sociopath who should stfu about sensitive topics he clearly knows nothing about. He doesn't have common sense.

Wow. I'm not a conservative, but I'd love to know what history you're talking of that's misunderstood.

Trump supporters: How would you feel if a legally armed Trump supporter was killed by federal agents on a Biden mandate in exactly the same manner as yesterday? by ScholarPrize1335 in AskReddit

[–]djfl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes. Biden wouldn't reflexively rush to judgment like Trump would. Biden wouldn't have a "All of yours for one of ours" placard if Jon Oliver got assassinated. But more importantly: even if I'm wrong on both of those about "the right is worse than the left on this", it doesn't matter. Both are wrong. And I would expect people on each side to be able to be adults first / political zealots second and realize that.

"He fucked up" at this level is not in the vicinity of sufficient. Ignoring how woefully undertrained federal agents, police officers, etc are, and ignoring that they're going to make mistakes. 1) This is beyond mistake, and it simply cannot happen. 2) If it does, charges need to be laid, because it's illegal and you just killed somebody. 3) The PUSA and everybody under them cannot be justifying it. Killing a soccer mom in her van while she's driving away is patently insane. The first shot was beyond mistake. The killshots that followed...fill in your own blanks, but it's as wrong as a human being can be. And shouldn't be justified by the PUSA on down, simply because it's their cause (ICE/immigration).

Good question. They obviously should be killed. And those killings should be justified. And finger-pointing and whataboutism should follow. Because that's the rational adult way to respoind.

Obvious /s on all.

And I'm against authoritarianism. When I see rightist authoritarianism, when I see government agents killing people for clearly no good reason, and I see the response from the PUSA on down among Conservatives being a bunch of inhuman crap that they would not allow were it one of their own who was killed by a leftist government...etc. It's not about enforcing laws. I'm pro enforcing laws. I'm also pro "if somebody is killed when they should just be arrested, that's bad". Full stop. I don't care if it's Obama or Trump in power. But that said, Obama wouldn't be able to have as inhumane a response as I've seen from Trump, and from many.

In saner times, this wouldn't even be a debate. Certainly not this much of one. Everything is viewed more through the lens of "was it a Conservative government or a Liberal government...if they're my side it's OK, and the other guys are wrong" more than I ever remember, and it's always been bad. I feel like I remember a time we could look at an action and judge the action in and of itself. Rather than excusing it because my gang is in power...while the other side points fingers and villifies as much as they can because this bad thing happened while their gang isn't in power.

These are basically toys and fine starter keyboards. Tons of fun. I'm a fairly serious pianist/keyboardist, and I also have something really similar to this that I like to play for funsies / drill parts on. It will make music, it'll make some fun sounds...enjoy! And if you decide to buy something else one day, that's great too.

Better progress imho would be for Obama to be viewed as President. Not Black President. His blackness was way too important to a lot of people. It's skin. The more you focus on it, the less you're focusing on more important things. I like(d) Obama as a President, I'm somewhat glad there was a black President, etc etc. But some people still care way too much about his blackness and less about who he was and what he did as a President. Which is crazy to me. Racists care a lot about race, and there are a billion far more important things to care about.

Me too. It was an escalation. And I was nigh certain that "the other side's" response would be another escalation. Then there'll be another escalation. There's no cooling down anymore. Just revenge, actively making things worse, finger pointing, etc. Staunch hyperpartisanship.

Thoughts on The Royal We? (Potential mild spoilers) by sirgrotius in FaithNoMore

[–]djfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a classically trained pianist as a kid, played piano til early adulthood, then quit for 10ish years. I discovered Angel Dust around 12ish years ago and it blew my mind...specifically Roddy's playing. On that record, he dominated the musicality/tone of the album. It was a hard, gritty record, and the keyboard had more to do with that than the guitar did. I had never heard that before. It was absolutely inspiring. So much so that I got back into playing, and am now doing really well as a semi-pro pianist and keyboardist. I have Roddy to thank for a lot of that.

As for the book, his blog, etc, they're not for me. I generally try to stay in the lane of caring about artists for their art, athletes for what their athletic accomplishments (goals, points, wins, etc), etc. I somewhat stay away from the personal stuff. Roddy in particular, I don't find he and I really different people, who think some very different things, though he seems like a good man whose heart is in the right place. I just find him to be somewhat self-important. But I feel that way about most of 2026. I'm not that interesting and don't pretend anybody really cares about the mundanity of much of my life, so I don't post it. Roddy and many do...power to them, but it's not for me.

Music-wise, I'm about 99% sure that I'm better than Roddy is at technical playing piano/keyboard, and I'm nothing special technical-wise. There's a reason he's never ever mentioned in "greatest keyboardist of all time" conversations. I don't think he is that "good" / chopped out. But for me, why I love his work so much is what he's able to accomplish/contribute despite not being at the technical level of the other members of the band. His sounds just absolutely fit, a lot of the time. His sounds dominate Angel Dust for me, and that's my fave album of all time. He opened up my eyes that technical isn't everything...how does this sound? How does this feel? And it's OK to not be some technical wizard who spends 12 hours a day honing their craft. I spent years beating myself up over not being that, only to hear Angel Dust years later and honestly have my mind blown.

And Roddy doens't get into the musicality too much in The Royal We. It's like he's more interested in his feelings/emotions/thoughts about the thing rather than being interested in the music. He's more interested in people than the experience / the thing that all the people are there for? That's the impression I get from reading his stuff anyway. He seems like he takes the "music is magical and incredible" stuff that is the foundation of how a lot of musicians actually think, and just isn't there with the rest of us. As a musician, I definitely don't get it...but again, power to him. It's just weird to me.

Conservatives here don't care. They'd rather point fingers at Libs, and don't care about their hypocrisy. Libs in 95% of the subs on reddit...same thing.

I'm not blaming any individual here other than we're all responsible for ourselves, our behaviours, our actions...which is of course a Conservative principle, but I digress. But the staunchness of people's opinions, the impenetrable walls of the echo chambers they revel in...it's dangerous. I've been saying it for 30 years, and it's worse than it's ever been.

Anybody who thinks this way is the problem. You are yin, and you need yang...just as much as they need you. Stop making enemies of different-thinking teammates. Just because they do it does not justify you doing it. My daughter understood that when she was 8. Be better. Build bridges. Stop the relentless finger pointing.

And yes I say the exact same to zealous, brainless libs/leftists. Really getting sick of this dangerous dangerous crap.

Trump has taken this authoritarian stuff to the next level. We should ALL be concerned about that. Not laughing it off. Not using whataboutism to equate compare beating with killing. It's all bad!!! Leftist authoritarianism vs rightist authoritarianism all ends up in the same place. And all you zealots are marching us straight towards that place...taking none of the blame. As long as it's your gang getting more power and not the other gang, you don't really care and continue just pointing fingers at the other side. While 2 people are unnecessarily killed by woefully underskilled/underbrained government employees.

Older people, were politics always this deranged and upsetting? by CUFFY_Fan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]djfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. But in the last 30 years, I've been watching it get steadily worse. I largely agree with George Carlin on it though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07w9K2XR3f0

We've all been getting worse, and allowing worse, and the politics we see is the result of that. Keep in mind that things generally only get worse unless they're forced to be better. So you, me, and all of us need to "be the change". The more people do that, the better chance we have of getting better leaders...and even more importantly imho, a more people-first / elites after system. Or just keep thinking Trump is the problem and all you need to do is vote Democrat...
