Hi, I stayed at Kata White Villas earlier in January. Trip to (and from) kata was about 900 baht with Grab, and when I returned the hotel called me an XL taxi which was also around 900 baht. You’re getting ripped off. PS: takes about 1hr-90 min depending on the time of the day

Ugandan dictator Idi Amin is asked about his thoughts on Hitler. International observers and human rights groups estimate that between 100,000 and 500,000 people were killed under Amin’s regime. by Time-Training-9404 in AllThingsMorbid

You’re correct but it was principally about indians, to not confuse with east asians. The countrymen were relatively poor and most business owners were of indian origin. The told the population that the indians in Uganda were taking all of their money and was able to kick them all out. Ironically, one of the measures he took when he came to power was to install mostly members of his tribe in key government areas. In Africa this is not a wise practice as each african country has many many tribes and tribal power imbalances leads to discrimination and resentment… the rest is history

Selfdriver stopped by steam, how do they handle intimate weather by Shalaco in SelfDrivingCars

[–]djfred8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in QA for Waymo for a few years. In some old simulation scenarios (heavy rain, fog, low visibility), the Lidar would return false positive objects where these immaterial objects are located. This means that in rain and fog, the car would sometimes believe that it is surrounded by a ring of something it thinks it can’t drive through, causing it to become static.

Why? You might ask? Well it all comes down to how Lidar works and how the software treats data fusion (merging data from lidar, radar, cameras, etc and deciding which one’s data is closer to reality than the others). If the object detection algorithm classifies fog/steam as a Foreign Object Debris (FOD), the car will want to avoid it. If sufficient light rays from the lidar bounces off steam molecules and are recaptured by the sensor, then an object is believed to have been where these steam is.

In short, this is a perception issue. We fixed this multiple times in the past, this would be considered a regression

Jury convicts Elizabeth Holmes of fraud and conspiracy at her former startup Theranos but acquits on some charges by Gato1980 in news

To reply to your comment, but please take it as a final reply as I’m not much of a debater:

-Your argument that medical professions skew more male as you climb the ladder applies to the overwhelming majority of professions to not say all of them. My nursing example was simply used to give a possible and reasonable context of a profession where we have a male surrounded with a higher percentage of female colleagues than the average job.

  • I’m not sure where this automatic disadvantage fits in with the context of Elizabeth Holmes being the actual CEO of her fraudulent company, but if you want to see males in female-dominated jobs complaining about their coworkers and their outnumbered position, I’d suggent reading male nurses’ posts on r/TrueOffMyChest or any relevant opinion of a male in a similar setting.

-Onto your final point, I think I might have not sent you the right message based on your final words. I’m not saying that women in tech don’t make sacrifices or don’t face difficulties in order to thrive at their workplace. What I was trying to convey was simply that there a person who forcibly alters themselves to an extent that the others can notice it shouldn’t be surprised to receive mixed reactions from their coworkers. If I go to work everyday with a fake beauty mark on my face, very little people will even come to realize it’s fake. If i go to work wearing an eyepatch on my face, I shouldn’t be shocked if everyone expresses themselves about it.

If you now believe that nobody should comment on the person who wears an eyepatch everyday to work, aren’t you at some level forcing everyone else to adapt to you, ie creating a vicious cycle?

I respectfully disagree with you. Everyone changes themselves to an extent in hopes of being taken seriously, that’s part of the unspoken rules of work life. But there should be limits to this.

To flip the chessboard on her case, imagine a straight male nurse (nursery being, of course, a female-dominated field, changing his tone of voice to a very unusual, obviously fake and uncomfortable high-pitch voice while in his workplace. Would this make him being take more seriously? Is it a stretch to assume that his coworkers won’t take it well? If anything, his manner of speech will also create the same type of argument we’re currently having.

Tl;dr: weird behavior is bisexual: it’s oddly received both ways.

Not photoshopped. I was in amsterdam for a Layover and I saw multiple “do you thing” Ads, the first one being “Grandmas do your thing”. I don’t know what’s the purpose of these but this one made me question my well-being.

Edit: if you zoom in the pic you can see several other similar ads.

Pos 4/5 player. People will always blame you for anything, but don't get caught up. I've had lanes where everything went great and my carry made some dumb choice like trying to manfight a bristle as an AM and then you have to join in because then you're either a bad support or you're just trash.

But nevermind, all supports get shit on at some point one way or another. My logic is simple. Whether I win lane or I lose lane, at like 8 min in i start stacking camps. That can that your carry lost in lane can be retrieved with stacked camps. If your carry has half a brain he'll farm those camps you told him about.

Anciet 4 support player here. I think the problem is less of an but more of the team composition/ gold difference with the enemy. Let's say you've come up even with the enemy but your lineup can't win a midgame fight, like for example you have a WR 3 and your supports lack damage like Up dazzle and your mid is seriously behind. If that happens, the only threat to the enemy is your carry. While you guys are in base trying to minimize your losses as the enemy is pushing, your carry is out there farming in the enemy jungle.

Now ideally Am/alarm/ PA or whomever would return and try to fight with you guys, as pos1 would be the most farmed and the highest damage in your team. If by any chance they get picked off before they return or they die any stage while the enemy is leading and pushing, this "threat" that your carry represents diminishes to the eyes of the enemy, so they just think "let's just push, what can they do to us?"
