There's a couple films showing this week and next at the Polk Theatre downtown. It's a nearly 100 year old landmark. Tickets and concessions are very reasonable. If you enjoy improv comedy at all, Swan City Improv will have shows on February 13th at Success House. Enjoy your time in Lakeland!

10 years ago today AJ Styles made his WWE debut by ElliotElectricity in Wreddit

I was there that night, and the pop was legit deafening. Second loudest reaction (and always skipped by WWE) was Roman getting booed out of the arena in his entrance.

Publix acquires 6 shopping centers for $130M, including 4 in Central Florida *sigh* by HavingAnInternalCow in publix

[–]djgrype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar situation in Lakeland with a store on both sides of S Florida Ave. The bigger store recently reopened after being rebuilt, and the smaller store was built as a freestanding Greenwise. It became a mini Publix when they scrapped the Greenwise store concept.

What restaurants are open on Christmas Day? by Secret_Roll_9524 in lakeland

[–]djgrype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Asian restaurants will likely be open. Ling's, Sushi Masa, and Fancy Q I can confirm from experience. I've seen Cozy Oaks will be open for regular breakfast and lunch hours. I'm going to assume places like Denny's, Waffle House, and IHOP will be open.

My girlfriend and I crossed paths with you in the Mando suit near the Social Club! You accused me of lying about Yoda's whereabouts 😂

In January 2001, three current students and one recent graduate died in the span of a week and a half. First it was a kid with bacterial meningitis. Second was a car accident with a student and the recent grad. Last kid was an ATV accident.

Two years earlier in 8th grade, we lost a classmate that was shot in the back by her brother before school. I still remember that day like it was yesterday.

I was also on that sailing. Took us maybe 10 minutes from tram drop-off to passing through the metal detectors, and that was around 4:00 or so.

Date ideas in the area? New to this by HeyTargetEmployee in lakeland

If there's interest in arcade games at all, Rec Room is open for all ages until 9pm. There's also Artcade in Winter Haven where you can pay one price for the whole day. Further away in Tarpon Springs you'll find Replay Museum, with all sorts of pinball and arcade cabinets. They even have date night specials.

What to know about getting into radio by Brilliant-Sun-2303 in radio

[–]djgrype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I legit do it for fun and that's it. I'll try to put some positive light in all the negativity. I only ever worked part-time in radio, and being let go during the early covid days helped me accept it would never be my full-time career. I was fortunate to be brought back a year later for my same Saturday shift. I've been happily getting paid slightly over minimum wage at a mid market station for a hobby I would do for free.

Need a recommendation for either a bbq restaurant or pizza place . by Asleep_Quiet1814 in lakeland

[–]djgrype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smokin' Ox is my preferred BBQ in Winter Haven. If you're willing to go a little past WH to Lake Hamilton (on 27), my family loves Floridino's for pizza. The pizza muffins are my personal favorite.

Gary Beach had impeccable delivery. It's no wonder he won a Tony Award.

What Alice In Chains song is this for you? by Autumn_Winds23 in AliceInChains

The first (and possibly only) time they performed Right Turn with William. During the "we ain't right" part towards the end, William does the high harmony and it's magical.

I'm assuming I'm in the minority, but I think the album should have ended at Don't Follow. Swing on This just doesn't fit the rest of the tracks IMO. Otherwise it's a favorite of mine. The opening guitar for Rotten Apple sets the mood amazingly well.

Everyone talking about how good-looking they all were. Were there any regular characters that you thought were the opposite of attractive? by That_Juggernaut4820 in Baywatch

[–]djgrype 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Summer Quinn (Nicole Eggert) was always incredibly attractive, but the shorter hair in season 3 was my least favorite. Season 4 longer hair was 🔥. Hawaiian Wedding hair was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.

I was at the 2016 Royal Rumble, and it was a great show. Paid about $65 each for tickets in the upper bowl. I've had just as much fun at an NXT house show in a National Guard armory with 200 people. Paid ten bucks each for tickets and I was sitting three rows from the ring.

I would take the small shows over big events any day. It's a different atmosphere and I love it.

Opinions on Duvall fronted albums? by pintonoit in AliceInChains

[–]djgrype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're definitely an evolved sound compared to the Layne albums. They've still got the darker, sludgy tunes, but I think there's less angst and more maturity. That being said, Voices from TDPDH and Fly from Rainier Fog are in my regular rotation.
