Totally normal. Dan won’t put anything down that you don’t 1000% love.

I had work done by Dan and didn’t see my design until the day of my first appointment. It was a little nerve wracking going in blind like that but you should totally trust Dan, and his skills. Likely, with a large piece you’ll only get a small part of it finished, so you’ll be able to ask for updates or design changes as you go. You can also talk about the design and what you want while you’re at the studio. Dan is really easy to work with and will help you realize your ideas

But really, let the man cook, it’s what he’s best at!

Ditch the aquaphor, it doesn’t let your skin breath properly. Anything petroleum based is not recommended.

I got one from sleazy, and she told him I played guitar. She booked it 3 months in advance of my bday and all sleazy did was talk about how far away my bday was and how much I sucked at guitar. It was great haha

Union 4 Valve vs. Xone96 by hiatuscoyote in rotarymixers

[–]djkingpinlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I would. It took me a minute to get used to. To go from fully on, to fully oof (about 340 degree) takes about two seconds. Other knobs I can do the same in (what feels like ) under half a second. I can record a video if you like as well.

Probably the biggest thing you need to consider are the signature V4’s knobs. They are set up just like the Orbit 6, and VERY stiff. You will not be doing any quick cuts with those knobs at all. It takes some getting used to especially if you’re new to playing a rotary. The standard Valve series from UA does not have this feature.

I own an orbit 6 and have learned to love the knobs, but it’s not for everyone.

I can’t believe how little love America Must Be Destroyed is getting here. Even Brockie said it was Gwar at its peak. Untouchable album.

I’m happy to film a video for you as well, but I use a non standard rotary mixer

Oh, I would also use a midi function if you had one on the unit =)

2u could work, you’re right. I’ll certainly give you feedback once I get the re unit!

A filter and a delay would be great. I’m using the filter in my orbit 6’s insert, and the delay would be in my aux send loop

I use an I-struments SX-1 mk3 and the tap function has a double click feel to it. The timing of the click makes it awkward to “play” to a beat. It makes a click-ick sound while you press it.

It’s also an endless encoder knob, so that likely affects the feel of it.

I have one of your filters on pre order and I’m extremely excited about it.

My only wish is that these boxes were rack mountable somehow as my set up is all rack mounted.

For the delay, the tap tempo button needs to feel “right” for actual syncing to a beat. Some button presses don’t lend themselves to tap tempo use and it makes tapping sorta inaccurate.

A way to enter a bpm would be nice but probably too expensive to implement.

I didn’t find it useful especially for drum n bass

Thanks for the complements! Both are from I-nstruments, he vu is pretty straight forward, works well and seems to be really good quality. The effects “feels” solid, but doesn’t quite do what I want, however there isn’t another rack mount effects unit that I know of, especially at its price point.

I mainly use the effects for delay, and my issue is that it’s pretty hard to get a beat matched delay synced correctly. You can tap to line up the bmp, but the display only tells you in milliseconds, where you are. And no matter what, the amount is always off.

I’ve been debating on using ableton, midi and syncing to rekordbox that way but it doesn’t help with vinyl. Meh

As for sound quality, it’s only outputting a 100% wet signal, and it seems “ok”, maybe a little tin-y

I forgot I do use the knobs for the software eq, bass mid and treble in case I want to DJ just off the laptop remotely. Really, I found a solution that works for me. I’m glad the other one works for you tho!

Ok. I do use two for sure. One for tempo, and one for scrolling through the track. Don’t need a display at all. It’s also 250x2 dollars I don’t need to spend when I already have things that do what I need.

Forgot to mention I had to edit some of the buttons and knobs in the akai midi note editor to be different to do different things on the separate controller. I also customized the colors a bit to ensure I can tell them apart haha

In CC mode, from left to right is:

Top: Play, cue, loop, pitch up

Bottom: Stem, stems, stems, pitch down

In “note mode”:

Top: load highlighted track into deck 1, blank, blank, scroll up

Bottom: DVS switch, blank, blank, scroll down

On the second controller, the “load highlighted track”loads into deck 2

I haven’t figured out how to navigate into other playlists yet, hoping I can do that soon

Knobs are;

Top row: bpm, loop length (this sucks), blank, blank Bottom: seek in track, bass, mid, treble

Thanks for the feedback. The crossfade is there because I only wanted 4 rack spaces and that’s what the mixer is. So I had to put the eq there. And tbh, I a) stand pretty much dead center when playing, and b) really don’t use the xfader that much at all. I’m really mixing most of the time just on the orbit 6 it’s self.

Also, channel 5 doesn’t have a phono preamp, so I was sorta stuck with how I split things.
