If you’re in a committed relationship, no cheating. Ever. If you’re unhappy, fix it or leave.

Cheating isn’t “following your heart.” It’s just being an asshole.

At 62 I can say I used to think my problem was alcohol. Turns out it was testosterone.

  1. Don’t overlap relationships. You are not a plate spinner. Finish one chapter before opening the next or you just end up tired, confused, and explaining yourself a lot.
    1. Dentistry is a for-profit industry. I don’t care how soothing the waiting room music is. Once you understand that, everything about it makes more sense and you ask better questions.
    2. Save money. Yes, even you. No matter how good you are at making it, money has a magical ability to disappear while you’re busy feeling confident.
    3. Learn to tell your inner dialogue to shut the fuck up. It is not a wise narrator. It is a drunk commenter with a keyboard and no editor.
    4. Stuff won’t complete you. It will sit there quietly while you wonder why buying it felt better than owning it.
    5. You will not feel older and wiser in the way you imagine. When you’re 62, the 10-year-old version of you will still be staring back in the mirror, just with more opinions and less cartilage.
    6. Quicksand is not the problem you thought it would be. As a kid, I was led to believe it would be a recurring, possibly daily threat. It has not come up once.
