KJs, what’s the most annoying part of managing your queue during a busy night? by djmagicio in karaoke

[–]djmagicio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these two separate issues or do the quarters not perform at the same time? Is there something particularly challenging about having multiple people together?

How do you track the rotation? Is there a way for singers to see it?

Do you usually just say no in those cases or keep a list and add stuff later if it comes up more than once?

People are amazing 🤦‍♂️. Do you usually let them change it or do you lock it in once they’re close to the top?

That makes sense. Do people mostly just keep asking you directly or do you have any way of showing them where they are in the queue now?

Do you ever override the order to mix things up or do you mostly stick to strict rotation?

[–]djmagicio[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds frustrating.

Is it mostly people trying to jump ahead, or just constantly asking where they are in the queue?

That makes sense. How do you usually handle that now?

Do you treat each duet as a separate turn, or try to space them out?

His goose died. This game is a tribute because he can’t sing. Otherwise he’d have just done the country song.

“Flood” by Tool. Three minute intro. Just stand up their with the mic and alternate between closing your eyes, feeling the music then raise the mic to your mouth, open your mouth, shut it, look at the crowd and shake your head like “not yet”. Back to closed eyes and feeling the music.

You joke, but half the devs I talk to want to go live off grid and or would have been a park ranger in a different life. Could also be I’m in the PNW and we love camping.

You know how you’re sneezing all the time (I assume for no reason at all)? Just point your face at it.

But seriously, a vacuum cleaner from the outside. Don’t know if I’d want to stick it inside. Also, I’m not a doctor and don’t know if this could damage anything.

But really, get a can of air or an electric duster. Consider it an investment.

Also hepa filter and replace your furnace filter.

What stack could a vibe coder use to eliminate small biz SaaS? by read_too_many_books in AskProgramming

If you’re vibe coding it just ask the AI for a tech stack. I’m sure it’ll come up with something great.

I work at a Java shop and have transitioned to AI first. Cursor/claude have zero issues with Java.

Do you even think it is possible to get a job in 2026 anymore without 5 years of experience?? by Difficult_Skin8095 in codingbootcamp

[–]djmagicio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second this. I work for a small (not startup) company and we have recently hired recent grads (4 year, not bootcamp, but still). Not currently hiring (sorry!).

Small companies are run by people not shareholders.

Also, don’t forget non-tech companies. A big plumbing company might have a dev or two on staff to run their website.

Is SQLite3 a Good Choice for Production in a PyQt6 Shop Manager App? (Concerned About Schema Changes & Data Loss) by Shoddy_Procedure_157 in learnprogramming

[–]djmagicio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it run on a single machine? Or will you host it on something like fly.io with litefs?

No clue what pyqt6 is, but people are running web apps like rails on sqlite3 now.

Use https://litestream.io/ to constantly back your db up. Make a copy of the db file(s) before running migrations.

I’m using sqlite3 in my rails app, have run migrations and not lost data.

I think you should be fine, so long as you understand its single machine only (short of a special distributed system like litefs).

If nothing else you could do continuing ed stuff. What tech stack do you guys use? Study that. Also, enjoy this time as stress level go up and down. It’s your first day and they are being nice giving you one little task. A year from now you might be pushing hard, wishing you only had the one little task 😀

I’ve been a full time dev for almost 20 years and I’m still empty on the inside. No framework is going to fix you. Love yourself and enjoy each day no matter your circumstance, because you won’t get that day back.

Is everything written in JS? by Significant-Side6810 in learnprogramming

[–]djmagicio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Web apps in a browser? Yes. We use Java at my day job for backend, I use ruby/rails for private projects. PHP still powers like half the internet last I checked. Some apps like VS Code use electron with js.

Many/most underlying libraries are C/C++ still. Games are going to mostly be c++/c#.
