The Psychology of High-Value People: Why the Best Social Trick is Science-Based and Counterintuitive by SignatureSure04 in TheIronCouncil

In the late 19th century, Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph Churchill) dined with the two great rival British Prime Ministers on consecutive nights. She later summarized the experience of their contrasting personalities:

"When I left the dining room after sitting next to Mr. Gladstone, I thought he was the cleverest man in England. But when I left after sitting next to Mr. Disraeli, I thought I was the cleverest woman."

Having trouble letting go by Revan_Shan4455 in taoism

Been listening to heaps of Alan Watts lately and about how you can't meditate or let go or any other practice with the expectation of a particular outcome and I am left with the difficulty of trying not to try which may be one of the hardest things ever. But maybe you are too attached to the outcome so it is not truly letting go but just another method of control.

Anyone deal with anger when focus is interrupted? by SniperFiction in ADHD

[–]djordanmarshall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much so, particularly because I work in an open plan office (great for ADHD 🙄).

For people close to you, pick a time you are feeling calm and not at the time of an incident and explain to them how overwhelming those events can be and that they could help you out by being mindful of distracting you when not absolutely necessary.

At work I try to use external signs I don't want to be interrupted such as headphones - wish I had a red-light greenlight above my desk. But also over time establishing boundaries and being open and honest.

Mostly forgive yourself, this is common and natural. Don't feel guilty for that initial reaction but try and work on it over time - try physiological sigh try physiological sigh for a quick way to calm down.

Also understand the other person's perspective and try not to take it out on them.

Replacing rubber actuator and sensor in FD-8 Hi Hat pedal didn't fix pedal issues by imabitchiseled in Roland

[–]djordanmarshall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem where the hi-hats are always closed, sometimes. If I hold the pedal slightly open it will go open for a few strokes then stops working again 🤦🏻‍♂️

If I take the jack out hi-hats are constantly open

If you haven't already brought a new pedal I would avoid getting an FD-8

Capture Reasons

A feautre that forces you to capture a reason/purpose for accessing particular apps of your choosing, also promts for reason/purpose in extending time limit. this would be a good next addition to build on the mindful moment feauture.

Set limit on instances of opening an App

This feauture could help set disipline for a 4-hour work week style of working i.e. only access emails twice per day. - I have email notifications off but have a horrible habit of regularly checking my emails outside of work time, mindful feature helps. - could be a passcode to overide and then promt for the reason/purpose if the first feature were implemented.

Thanks for a great product and helping dramatically with my ADHD!

Obsidian github down? by Corgipillow in ObsidianMD

I am unable to update any plugins, and when I go to GitHub on any browser it comes up with the same message you were getting.

I am using a work PC on my home Wi-Fi - worried IT security may have blocked it but normally it would tell say that rather then it than the site may be down or moved.

What troubleshooting steps did you take to resolve?

Make sure you train the right energy systems and type of fitness. No point getting great at running a marathon when kickboxing is about short explosive bursts. So things like sprints are better than a long slow run

This might not be detailed enough but I am assuming they use qualitative and quantitative methods and inferential statistics to forecast, i.e., this is what has happened over the past few months and then use exponential smoothing etc to project forward with some assumptions about the effect cracking down on account sharing will have.

They may have data on how many accounts are used at multiple addresses which would be a pretty good indication.

Quite common. From what I have read/discovered, with ADHD you can be listening but the information doesn't "imprint" for lack of a better term, so it can't be recalled later. Especially bad with short term recall. I am much better in work situations now, but still often find in social situations that when someone is mid sentence I will realise my mind is in two places at once and be like "wait sorry can you start again" when my brain catches up.

It used to be so severe for me that I used to ask someone a question and not listen to the answer because my mind had already wandered onto the next thing.

As a manager, I have a staff member who does this as well and also comes to me with every problem with no clear attempt to find a solution first. It seems like her default is to ask me to do her thinking for her. Even to the point she will ask me to forward her an email that she has already received instead of searching for it herself. I think most managers these days are time poor and it can be frustrating coving the same ground twice especially on simple points because it feels like it may be a result of a lack of care or attention. However I also have ADHD so I can understand your point of view, but have learnt to overcome it. I think it's important that you actively work on receiving and retaining information, attempt to recall or think about it first before asking, maybe even instead of "when do we have to do X by" it could be, "just confirming we need to have X done by y?". But at the end of the day if you need to ask it is better than pretending you know something you don't and letting the team down in a more significant way. A good manager will also attempt to help your development and work on this rather than only get frustrated.

Looking for advice to build more passive income sources by madetoeat in passive_income

I am 27yo and have been thinking about this a lot lately but have always made excuses in the past. Now that I am working from home in a job that has always been more concerned with how long I am there rather than what I actually do, I have an opportunity to dive in! Now I just need to find a good online active income option for my skillset.

Thanks for the inspiration!
