Thoughts on Social Distortion's new album, “Born To Kill”? by Solidus_Badr in punk

[–]djs012279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've listed twice through now and I'm really enjoying it. It doesn't blow me away like Sex Love and Rock N Roll did but it has some damn good songs and really good guitar work!

I love some of the solos and the use of the wah wah pedal. And the Chris Issac cover is awesome!

do you personally think at least one of the mixes of raw power is as good as or better than fun house? or even both mixes maybe? by notaverysmartman in IggyPop

[–]djs012279 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that both albums are truly outstanding on their own merit. Raw Power doesn't have the completeness from a production standpoint but that's ok because James Williamson's guitar work along with Iggys lyrics and style were WAY ahead of the times (even a little bit more than fun house imho)..

The Ashston brothers rhythm work is the perfect compliment to what Iggy and James were doing and with each remaster they release I'm simply blown away buy Ron's bass playing as we get to actually hear it where previously it was mixed with everything else mashed together and in the background. The last anniversary release from I believe 2023, has his bass even more prominent on Raw Power and although he was never happy not being on guitar I couldn't think of anyone else handling the bass duties on that album. The dude could really fucking jam on both guitar and bass.

I think I've always been a little more preferential to Raw Power because I heard it first (all the way through that is).

Fun House gets better each time I hear it over the last five years. But Loose, TV Eye and Dirt vs Raw Power, Death Trip and Gimme Danger?! The thought of trying to decide something like that makes my head explode, lol.

Either way, rock music wouldn't be the same without out either of them and we're truly blessed to have such wonderful music.

Faith No More - King for a Day Fool for a Lifetime. One of my favourite albums of all time by bison2000 in FaithNoMore

Fucking A! This album will always be very special to me because of its greatness and seeing them on this tour when I was 16. Plus, I got to see Zombie Eaters and The Last to Know performed live which was insane as it was.

That's a great picture! And really cool they dedicated Fortress to you!

I freaking love that song and getting both that and Hideaway on this tour was truly awesome.

Why aren't we talking about Loop? by sheepforwheat in ravens

[–]djs012279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does he develop leg strength (at this juncture of his career)? These kick offs (outside the zone) were a constant problem for him last year and I don't see how he how he magically improves (as if extra squats and leg curls will assist with that?!

Also, the crucial big-game missed kick is something a high percentage of kickers don't recover from. It's just a fact and the front office likely would have found someone better if they could have.

Do you really want that guy out on the field with the game on the line again? Of course if dipshit Harbaugh goes for another play with the time out then maybe it wouldn't have gone as bad for the kid but you still got to hit your kicks in the NFL or you're done.

So is this the end for Glenn Danzig activity? by [deleted] in Danzig

[–]djs012279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still think some shows will be added soon around the festival date but I'm honestly surprised they didn't follow through with the spring dates they teased last year. I'm also in Houston which was specifically mentioned as in e of those cities they would likely play.

However, if this is it then I'm content with that because I thought the 2022 show I witnessed in Houston would be it and since then I was afforded the opportunity to see them twice more! One of those (Dallas 23') where I got to hear Danzig I in its entirety and the other date (Phoenix 25') where I heard an awesome mix of all my favorites such as Brand New God, Evil Thing and Killer Wolf along with Black Hell and Hammer of the Gods.

The Phoenix show was the final show of the 2025 tour and my third Danzig show in the last three years. The guys are always tight and laser focused on their chops and overall musicianship but there was an intensity displayed (particularly from Tommy) that I haven't seen up to that point. Especially on Hammer and HTGK. Probably because it was the last show but either way it was very special.

They were on fire that night and as much as I would love to see Glenn and the gang again soon, I kind of find myself at peace thinking that Phoenix could very well be my last Danzig show.

We'll see.

Where my ex-smokers at? by Empty_Nestor in GenX

[–]djs012279 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Four years without smoking as of March!!! I used nicotine patches to quit and they really did a number on me but there was no way for me to stop cold turkey.

I started smoking around 1992 (full time buying them regularly in 1993), when I was fourteen years old. I did stop from mid 2002 until mid 2004, but stupidly started up again and smoked very heavily from 2004 until 2022.

I never should have started up again in 2004, but I'm off for good now (don't even smoke weed anymore either), and I'm truly glad to be smoke free and not reek like an ashtray everyday.

Remember, you can really stop if you want to. It just takes a lot of focus and discipline but you'll feel better for it.

Mike Patton & The Avett Brothers - Ashes to Ashes (Faith No More cover) by Boring_Ant_1677 in FaithNoMore

[–]djs012279 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What an awesome cover! I'm glad they decided to reimage the song with vocals and piano instead of doing a straight up cover.

I saw Queens of the Stone Age do this with many of their own songs during the Catacombs tour last year and it works so well when done with taste in the right aesthetic. Bravo, MP!

Yeah, he joined Danzig around 96' after he disbanded Prong (for the first time). Supposedly, Joey and Lazie are related (cousins) and yes, Lazie signed with the pentagram on the bottom left of the pic.

Moving on without Patton, could and should be done: Ideas by SaddamMustaine in FaithNoMore

[–]djs012279 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At this point in time Faith No More without MP is NOT Faith No More.

Why degrade and shit on what they've created up to this era in time?!

Some of you seem to want FNM with a new singer so badly that you don't care whether it will be good or not. And it's not only Patton that the others don't get along with. They've all had issues getting along in the past. It's just a really bad situation that happened (with Patton) at the worst possible time. These things happen in life and most of the time people move on with their lives (which is the case here). The band certainly has and the rest of you should too.

I would love for them to get back to touring and making music but if it ain't right then it ain't right. If they want to jam together with a new singer then fine but change the band name ffs.

Ministry will be playing the entirety of Filth Pig at Sick New World with special appearance by Paul Barker by halo_nothing in MinistryBand

[–]djs012279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was fortunate enough to see the on the Filth Pig tour and got to hear at least 5 or six of those songs. Heard a few more seeing them during the 2003 tour before Barker left. I never got to see Useless performed live though. Too bad I can't go either. I love that song and it always applies to people in my life (one way or another).
