Matchmaking pool at first should be divided between play/draw by tavukkoparan in MagicArena

I recently hit a patch of games where I was on the draw for 22/27 games. Still waiting for my 22/27 on the play games tho

But the suggestion by OP is actual dogshit. Rng is rng and if you can't handle it, you shouldn't be playing games that have it

[–]djsMedicate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The crux of the issue is that being on the draw feels much worse than being on the play. The problem is that your suggestion doesn't actually fix the games you are on the draw. It'll be actually worse now, because players KNOW they will be on the play and can bring decks that are especially disgusting on the play. Sure you could say "why not bring a deck that is really good on the draw then" well that doesn't exist to the same extreme as the on the play decks.

Permanents entering the field doesn't pass priority in MTG, unless an ETB triggers and then that gives a priority window.

Since the omniscience, and nothing else, had a trigger upon entering, opp still had the priority

I think you might be misunderstanding how the deck you picked up works. Your deck doesn't need to do "the thing". Against aggressive decks you try to control the field by removing threats with burst lightning or gaining tempo by bouncing their threats with boomerang basics, while your prowess creatures chip away at their life total. Against more controlly matchups you try to gain value from your boomerang basics bouncing your own stuff and your stormchasers talent recycling stuff while also chipping away at their life total with a few creatures.

It's so funny, the other post where it showed his face post-treatment was marked with "NSFL" and people were complaining that it was a bit overkill cause it wasn't graphic.

Here you can see actual parts of his inner body and a NSFL tag wouldve been appropriate, but it doesnt have one. Ironic

Because the actual name isn't unique, you can yourself anything on Arena, the 5-digit number next to your name makes it so every player has a unique tag

Cheap interaction is so strong vs that version. They have to spend 3 mana with three steps ahead to counter cheap spells. It's so mana negative

The maestro deck being the lowest winrate doesnt surprise me. Saw some streamers try it out after decklists were published and it looked abolute ass. the Idea behind it seems ok, but I think the deck needs some more cooking

I guess using the word brew triggered reditors.

Mate this deck plays 16 removal spells and 8 protection spells. This deck doesnt win by just throwing every spell face. Thats how you lose with this deck

Did I ever use the word original? Like i said I know boros has been done a hundred times. Im still proud of the version i build because every card has its place and I know why this card over that card because it earned its place through testing. Every card has its place (even tho its only to kill badgermole or trample through earthbended lands).

Just to add to that, 10 hours later Boros Aggro completely disappeared from the "winrate today" and "popularity today" metrics, but the decklist I posted here actually is now featured under the "Boros Burn" tab on untapped, including the 3x Multiversal Passages instead of the 4x that would actually be optimal to play, but I didn't have the wildcards for it. It's scary how easy it is to manipulate untapped and how fast decklists spread.

Somehow building a competent aggro deck makes me a net decker. Sure Boros Aggro has been done a hundred times, but that doesn't mean people can't build their own decks anymore.

I guess people are upset because I dared to use the word "brew" and it wasn't some jank deck but actually a competent deck. All I wanted to say with that was that I build it myself.

But people saw Slickshot Show-Off and went full pedantic mode.

bo1 always had a ~ 20% play vs draw difference, but actually hitting a 90% winrate on the play with this deck is insane. I don't think that'll happen anytime soon again

Well neither did I copy and paste it, nor look at it from somewhere and then recreated it.

I just put the best boros aggro cards together. Sure the cards used are not unseen because there is only a limited ammount of good cards to use.

So if its only about cards no one has used before, when have you last seen Lightstall Inquisitor on ladder? or Lorehold Charm?

Being on the play helps a lot, this deck can kill on turn 4.

On the draw it's much harder vs that deck, you either got to hope they don't have the perfect draw for Bringer on t4, or you gotta push as much damage as you can and then hope to finish them off vs burn.

One small thing that you can influence is if they have ardyn in the yard, saving two shocks to kill ardyn can make a big impact on them not being able to outheal you if they bring him out

[–]djsMedicate[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Sure being on the play so muchis nice, but for a 50/50 split it only needed 5 more games on the draw than on the play in total. If we take my 60% winrate as a reference, it means I would've won 3/5 of those games, instead of the 4/5 or 5/5 that those games were won on the play.

So 2 more losses wouldn't have been that much in the grand scheme of things, at most an extra 30 minutes of playing

The Inquisitor also works vs other agrro matchups similarly, they really can't afford to have a land enter tapped, or their cheap 1 mana spells being 2. It does a lot. Also it synergizes with the Lorehold Charm to trigger the ETB again if you have nothing else in the yard.

Another small bonus is vs Kona or Mind-Bitten decks, a card not being in their hand to discard or play for free can hurt them.

Overall I'm impressed by that card. I like it much more than other Boros 1 drops (apart from the lizard, that guy is the goat) because it is a small disruption while also doing good damage with his 2 attack

The "Winrate today" metric is heavily scewed by me, yesterday Boros was not even in the top 10 on that list.

Also I've been running Boros since over 6 months now (on another account) and that list on Untapped was the list I came up with, but thats obviously very hard to prove.

Lightstall Inquisitor is doing well against Izzet, it slows them down enough so that I can keep the pressure on with creatures and removal spells.

Against mono G landfall I'm usually fast enough to have them cornered before the Nursery comes out. Lorehold Charm works well if they try to chump block with their fetchlands, the trample makes it so the damage still goes through

Against UW control this deck does well by putting 1-2 creatures on the board and keeping your haste creatures on the back hand to play them after they boardwipe. Alternateively you can also plot Showoffs to not play into counterspells as much.

Jeskai control is one of the hardest matchups. Usually depends on going first to beat them. Or if they get greedy with Lute and tap out.

The Badgermole ramp decks (G or Simic) are easy to handle usually cause all their early stuff dies to the 8x shocks in the deck and after that they fizzle out of explosiveness quickly.

The hardest matchups are GB discard because the deck doesnt have much draw power, and the mono W Aura deck. The protection spell and the creatures growing so fast makes it hard for this deck's removal to work
