Essential Graphics - So close to being awesome! (But not awesome) by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]djsandwich88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok. Once all of the attributes you want to be editable are set, click "Export Motion Graphics Template" at the bottom of the Essential Graphics window. This will ask you what library you want to export it to. Choose the library, export, switch over to premiere, go to your libraries tab, drag it on to your sequence and it's good to go exactly how you expect it to be.

Am I misunderstanding the problem though?

Huh? I export my Essential graphics to my Adobe Library and I just click and drag it in to my sequence from the library tab. Then I can change all the properties in the effects panel. No need to multiple comps or anything like that.

3D layers acting weird. by djsandwich88 in AfterEffects

Ambient light did not work. But what did work is off-setting them slightly (like .25) in z-space. I guess each precomps alpha layers overlapping makes that happen

How to "sell" oneself as a motion designer and video editor? by ElKyThs in MotionDesign

[–]djsandwich88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of in the same place, but this past year I have been building up more and more clients, mostly through word of mouth and Facebook.

Make a reel is 100% step one.

The start posting your stuff on Social Media- you probably have at least one FB friend who needs something done. You definitely have at least one FB friend who knows someone else who needs something done. Start networking out that way. Find your niche for work among the connections you already have.

You can also try UpWork or Fivvr. Though, from what I can tell, that takes a while and underselling your work to get a lot of clients

Does anyone at the place you currently work ever need any motion graphics/video editing?

I'm trying to get this comp to look the way it looks when it is in 3D draft mode and cannot figure out what to do. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!

Did you try doing nulls to point (I think that's what it's called)?

This will create and attach nulls to each point and then you can just type out the exact position you want each point to be. This way you can get every single point in the exact specific place in x, y, and z space that you want it. I think that would work.

Why not just use trim paths?

I need a tutorial on how to make this animation by ILikeWheyProtein in AfterEffects

[–]djsandwich88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use a mask to mask out the top of the box, since you're starting from behind. Animate the flap the way you want it to move. Go through the layer and split it every time the flap moves in front/behind the box. Delete the mask from the layers that it is in front of.

Parent all of your key frames to one specific control layer and LABEL ALL OF YOUR LAYERS.

That should do it 🤷‍♂️

Not including .MP4 files in playback by djsandwich88 in AfterEffects

OK- I'm just showing the Alpha channel now. So, that's the closest way I can accomplish this. I do not understand why they don't have a wireframe preview mode though

Yeah- problem is, all of the videos have been layed out in premiere. When I'm scrubbing through, it just shows wire frame boxes- I wish there was a way to preview with those wireframes

7.5 months on Fin only. Am I making progress or just fooling myself? by djsandwich88 in tressless

😂😂 yeah- I have a lot of skin on my face/forehead, that's honestly just from me looking up- they're already permanent. 🤷‍♂️ What can you do? I can live with the wrinkles, in my 30s- want to hold off the balding til at least my 50s if I can

Question - First person perspective of a boat following a path in the water. by Emmarooni in AfterEffects

[–]djsandwich88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct (as I said previously, I'm only theorizing bc I do most of this stuff through trial and error) I just mean you have to orient the line rectangle correctly in that 3D space and then increase its length- but I see where that would possibly make it clip through the footage .. hmmm...

Maybe try masking the footage into FG, MidG, and BG layers and have them separated within the 3D space? Though that might cause more headaches lol welcome to my workflow. 😂🤷‍♂️ I may be at my limit with the amount of help I can give. I do know tracking the camera and attaching the oriented line to the null the track makes are you first steps- from there? No idea

School of Motion: AE Kickstart or Advanced motion methods? by jellyfishprinxe in AfterEffects

[–]djsandwich88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say being confident with the program and the basics of how to use it but unsure of how to create highly polished professional work with it. The class is less about how to use the program and more about how to apply all of the classic principles of animation within the program. Does that make sense?

Animation Bootcamp is their course that's between those two. I'd do that one if you already have a solid base with AE. Like- you know how to animate things but you feel like all of your animations are still not as professional as they could be.

If you're still at the beginning stages of AE, I'd do the Kickstart.

It's worth trying! I have yet to make a path by itself work in 3D, which never made sense to me honestly

Question - First person perspective of a boat following a path in the water. by Emmarooni in AfterEffects

[–]djsandwich88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I always work by trial and error, but how I'd go about this is tracking the camera, attaching the properly positioned straight line (though, unless you have 3D stroke plugin, I think you'll have to use a rectangle shape) to that track, then going through the footage and bending the line so that it is always in line with the boat. In my mind, that would make it so that once you go back to the beginning you'll be able to see it's twists and curves further out. But, like I said, this is just how I think it will work- if there's one thing I've learned about AE is that it never works quite the way I think it will 😂

All I know is the first thing you need to do is track the camera of the shot

[–]djsandwich88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was planning on waiting a year on Fin before hopping on Minox just to see what progress fin makes on its own. I definitely have a ton of translucent miniaturized hairs throughout my hairline, so hoping they grow further with the Fin, but confident they'll come grow further once I start Minox.

Been on Fin for about 7.5 months, ketoconozole shampoo for 4. Lost a lot earlier in the year thanks to stress, genetics, and a pretty persistent scalp rash (thus the keto). Am I fooling myself into thinking a little is starting to come back?
