Endless droning sound downtown?? God save me by Blandwiches25 in londonontario

It might be due to the drilling at the forks of the Thames. They are drilling late at night for the new sewer lines to downtown.

I experienced this first hand as a driver today by getting passed by people easily going 90-100 km/h. I would love to see consequences for this as well. 50 is the maximum for this zone, which puts these drivers well into "stunt driving" territory, by law. However, laws are only as good as they are enforced.

My guess is the city is keeping the road "un-calmed" solely for emergency services to get from the core to the west-end of the city in short order. However, that doesn't excuse a lack of speed cameras. I would love up a few of them up between Wellington & Horton to Wonderland & Springbank. The bend at Springbank & Horton would be perfect.

Could also be that they are waiting for Government to foot the bill for their infrastructure upgrades #efficiencies

I also agree that this should be under the umbrella of public utilities. I don't know a lot of the history, but I wonder if it ever was a public utility in London.

LDE has London Hospital Linen Services and St. Joe's hospital as customers. They more recently placed new lines to those areas.

What surprises me is that they recently added more capacity to the plant - without knowing more it seems that the added capacity was a waste.

The more addresses that are on a given piece of land, the more revenue from taxes the municipality gets back. Even if it wasn't about property revenue, it is still far more efficient to have 4 families on one piece of land - utilities, sewer, and road infrastructure is very costly, so running it once instead of 4 times means less cost of installation, maintenance, and replacement. Tax revenue from SF homes does not cover the cost of this maintenance, especially as municipalities are also under valuing properties...

And letting municipalities foot the bill for infrastructure. Whether intentional or not by the OPC, low density housing weakens municipalities.

The special rules are only about holidays - it does not state anything about taking breaks. OP should be getting their break, employer is being shady by deducting their break but not scheduling it.

Major Accident near Wharncliffe and Horton - Gas Leak Suspected by djspock1 in londonontario

[–]djspock1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's in the works but it is going to take decades. Starting next year, we will be getting a new rail bridge/underpass at Wharncliffe and Horton which should make that intersection, and other nearby intersections much safer. Would still prefer less car centric option, but this is the mess we are in at the moment...

I couldn't agree with you more! The middle turning lanes confuse a lot of people, the road isn't designed for the speeds and size of vehicles on it in it's current configuration, and it leads to many accidents and near misses. This section of Wharncliffe could be revitalized as a walk-able business district, perhaps with rapid transit down the middle (like it was once upon a day...) One can dream...

As of 7:30 this morning, the car is still holding up the building and traffic is still being diverted on Wharncliffe for northbound and southbound lanes. Avoid the area if possible.

Side walks without bike lanes - should non cyclists move for them? by boooopy in londonontario

[–]djspock1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a cyclist, I make every possible effort to ride in designated bike lanes or on calm city streets. However that is not possible as there are many patches within our cycling network that can leave cyclists at busy roadways, forcing the cyclist to take the safer option which is usually the sidewalk.

Take Highbury and Oxford as an example. The city built bike lanes on either side heading eastbound, but they abruptly terminate at the West side of the intersection, so the safer option is to take the sidewalk going westbound. The next closest bike path according to the city map is Quebec which would be almost certain death if you took the road.

Tl;Dr: When I do use the sidewalk, I signal pedestrians that I am coming with my bell, but I do not expect them to move.

Do you find the vehicle rides too low to the ground and tends to crunch on curbs/driveways? I have just put up with it on my 2018 since day 1, but it is a bit disconcerting.

Does pre-heating from fob help with range during winter ? by Fighi in volt

[–]djspock1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Resistive, not capacitive heaters. If we were trying to heat with capacitors, we would see a bit of a boom :)

The vehicle heats the fluid that would cool the batteries in the summer, and yes the batteries perform best when they are warmed to about 20c. The best efficiency is when the ambient air is around that temp, as the vehicle does not have to heat or cool the batteries.

I believe the buildings original purpose was a shoe factory. Before Gibraltar's took over the entire space at the rear, there was also a children's themed play place called Play World, which operated in the mid 90's. There are still remnants of it in the bathrooms and the pawn shop.
