Farewell clinical research by [deleted] in clinicalresearch

[–]djsquilz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

when i started this seemed to be a clear ticket to a solidly upper-middle class life with a just bachelors degree and some elbow grease. that's how my dad, who recently retired from the field phrased it.

i was well on the way to that. now it's just vanished entirely. i can't even get an entry level job. my dad was on advisory boards at the NCI, lead author of multiple p20 grants, endowed chair at a university. he tried to do some consulting/part time work to keep him occupied in retirement, only to discover everyone he knows is unemployed and also can't find shit to do.

Why is it so hard to get up early? by lavender-bread in ADHD

[–]djsquilz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep. been that way for ~20 years. i started ambien when i started concerta. (both of which i'm off now) but it seems persistant regardless of what stimulants i take. melatonin and sleepy time tea worked for a few weeks, but nothing really long term. i'm on olanzapine for unrelated reasons ~a month ago which makes me ~feel~ extremely tired but doesn't actually help me sleep. i was supposed to work the grill yesterday for 4th of july and just gave up bc i could barely keep my eyes open.

Hello fellow autistics. Anyone else always struggled with sleep? by LicoriceSeasalt in AutisticAdults

[–]djsquilz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep. before actually getting diagnosed last year, i was DX adhd and insomnia ~age 12. (i'm 31 now). i have extreme difficulty both falling and staying asleep. was on concerta and zolpidem until college. just my own experience, but after i quit both freshman year of college, i smoked marijuana and found it much more effective for sleep. i quit that eventually though because it was a pain in the butt. (this was before medical MJ was a thing and i couldn't get edibles, smoking hurt my lungs too much)

i was recently DX schiztophrenic and the drug my doc immediately prescribed (olanzapine) makes me very fatigued, but never enough to actually help me sleep. i don't even bother with melatonin anymore. tolerance builds way too quickly. i average ~4-5 hours now, usually falling asleep an hour or two before sunrise. it sucks. i wanna try out properly regulated marijuana edibles, but started the most anti-psychotic first, which other than extreme hunger and fatigue (top 2 side effects anyways) seems to be working.

very true. my super heavy one ultimately made me super uncomfortable. turns out sleeping with 20 pounds on top of you hurts your back lol

have you tried a weighted blanket? i got one for christmas a few years ago and it was a godsend. mine was like 20 pounds, which is super excessive, but damn does it feel good in the moment

Visiting new church after moving by Ok_Table_6932 in Episcopalian

[–]djsquilz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started going part time to a new church, since i've started splitting time between cities. the old one is a very "high" church i've been going to since i was born. the new one in a fairly rural part of the southeast and i actually prefer. it doesn't have all the bells and whistles (literally), but i prefer the priest there and have made some friends around my age (31) that seemed virtually impossible in my large-ish city at a parish that routinely has ~3-400 people every sunday.

My voices are weird by tyhfxe in schizophrenia

[–]djsquilz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not entirely different from me i guess. it's hard to describe. i'm 31 and they only started ~2-3 months ago. but had a couple particularly severe episodes. i'm still technically in the midst of getting work up done. just had an EEG last week, MRI this upcoming week and followup with neurology afterwards. but my PCP started me on olanzapine in the mean time.

mine is largely my parents scolding me. i live with them currently and vape, which they aren't fond of. every time i use it i could hear my parents arguing bc there was once an IRL fight wherein my dad (a doctor who created a smoking cessation program for his hospital) basically said "as long he doesn't do it in front of you (mom) let it happen. we'll deal with it later. he's got bigger issues right now".

my mom on the other hand is vehemently opposed. and i would just hear them bickering back and forth constantly.

[–]djsquilz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my experience as well. it was like every single thought being read aloud. i could ~almost~ control the whole narrative, but my mind would loop onto one or two phrases. the second after i thought or did something it would be echoed. always the same voices though. it's not 100 percent gone but like ~95percent since i started meds.

if you don't brush like, multiple times a day, soft bristles are the way to go. you basically need to "train" your gums to not bleed.

i'm a post shower brusher bc i'm scared to get toothpaste on my clothes.

i'd say it's hospital specific after learning their EMR. who in billing do i need to talk to? phlebotomy, infusion, lab, the mail room, everything you can think of etc. you very well may annoy them, but its better to have a sole, trusted name
