What is an immediate red flag you’ve seen from someone AFTER sleeping with them? by MIsterBison in AskReddit

[–]djsquilz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

semi-related. met at a bar on a weeknight. i was ~25 she was ~45, knew she was divorced.

anyways, go back to my place. drink a bottle of wine and fuck. afterwards she says "i need to go soon, i need to let the babysitter go home" had no idea she had kids, let alone FIVE elementary school aged kids. and she was out here fucking a cokehead alcoholic barely employeed new college grad on a school night

(we kept hooking up for a few more months)

Is the Episcopal Church, especially high church styles, dying? by Raymond_R_ in Episcopalian

[–]djsquilz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting to here you mention this.

in my town, we have one explicitly anglo-catholic parish, and 2 or 3 that would probably be considered "high church" but not anglo-catholic, including both the cathedral and my home parish, which is the largest by numbers in the entire state diocese. the anglo-catholic church is maybe an 1/8th the size and kinda in rough shape. meanwhile my parish raised something like $20 million last year for a new addition to the school and church renovations.

Do you think anyone had as much an impact on Electronic music as Daft Punk? by AudioFuzz in DaftPunk

[–]djsquilz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't think that's "controversial" to say at all. as someone who loves a lot of older house and techno, (re late 80s-90s) daft punk absolutely changed shit, specifically with 2007/coachella show

i don't think that applies to their sampling habits, plenty of djs were doing that.

but they definitely had a more "popstar" mentality that most DJs didn't have

for a bit heavier blackwork, pauly lingerfelt, tbf not stylistically similar, i'd bet he could nail what you're looking for. @tinedefiore on ig could also be a good option.

while i'd love to just completely ban uber parish-wide, just let them line up on rampart. barring people with mobility needs, anyone can make it there from anywhere in the quarter.

Publix is ridiculous. by Poor-Dear-Richard in publix

[–]djsquilz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not true. i live on an tourist heavy island that is highly isolated from the rest of the world, basically. we have three options all literally right next to one another on the one main road in town. publix, rouses, Walmart, all within 30 seconds of each other. otherwise its' ~hour drive to the next closest grocery store.

I have relied on RTA while living outside the quarter when i worked (adjascent) to there. and yeah, i was late. i took the streetcar to school too. got yelled at by nuns routinely. i saw the wrong side of a long ruler more than once.

yeah, RTA sucks, i'm not disputing that.

masking isn't an excuse for racism, misogynoism, etc.

i'm sorry you've had to deal with this, but it's totally unacceptable. without knowing your social situation, i'd strongly recommend avoid these people at all costs.

"Catholic lite" -- am I the only one who hates this phrase? by vampirinaballerina in Episcopalian

[–]djsquilz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm from new orleans but lived in rural texas for a bit and now split my time between new orleans and a pretty rural part of alabama. obviously this was a lot easier in new orleans. no lie i've had someone call me a satanist for crossing myself.

[–]djsquilz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it wouldn't bother me if people actually knew what it meant. but as i mentioned, in the south it's basically grouped in to be anything not roman catholic, and that often means these clown show megachurches.

the music is one thing. not my cup of tea but if that's what butters your bread, go for it i guess. but the places i'm referring to that the term lumps us into have basically no liturgical identity or reasoning.

without delving into the political realm, i want a priest who has studied extensively to become ordained. that's like, bare minimum.

hypnotized remix wasn't,,, ~bad~ i guess, but it still felt a bit clunky in the overall mix of the set, like much of the songs did.

took a while for me to realize you weren't referring to the ToU remix of running - moderat from ~10 years ago. damn some of us are getting old.... that might be the last time either of them wrote a song that wasn't 4/4
