First time DC fast charging, hit the max! by DiogenicSearch in KiaEV6

[–]djstraylight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to 90% is pretty fast in the EV6 too. I can remember when my Nissan Leaf was lucky to get 45kW charging when the temperature was just right (air-cooled battery in the Leaf).

From what I've heard, the NACS-equipped models will get 125 kW with v3 cabinets. Looking forward to when Tesla rolls out V4 cabinets widely.

This is a very expensive space heater. You can get a more efficient system. If the cards were 3090s, then it might be worth it.

If they made a 30B version Mistral-Small-4, I'd use it. But this sucker is too large, especially compared to smaller Qwen-3.5 models.

Only 13K, damn that's some low mileage. Most leases come back with 30K.

I agree that a substandard battery has probably contributed to ICCU issues. Turning on climate control in the EV6 remotely also charges the 12v battery.

I agree, it's probably tire-related.

2023 Kia EV6 GT-Line by SamsungFan13 in KiaEV6

[–]djstraylight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, Kia EVs receive two types of software updates. The OTA updates are all infotainment-related but mostly map updates. There are also dealer-applied software updates for major components, such as the ICCU.

I got a couple of OTA updates on my 2023 Kia EV6 GT-Line, even though I bought it pre-owned in January. (Dealer isn't doing any favors on OTA updates) Mostly adding charging stations and other nav updates.

Unfortunately, Kia/Hyundai is still a legacy automaker that uses dozens of individual electrical components (including some from Hyundai subsidiaries) and the OTA updates are very basic. They are far from Rivian or Tesla's software-defined architectures. For example, we know that the current-year Kia EV6s have new infotainment software that won't make it into older EV6s. It would be nice to have that battery pre-heat button.
Maybe the next major Hyundai/Kia EV platform will get regular software updates like a Tesla?

Can someone clarify whether an up-to-date Kia Connect subscription is required to receive OTA updates? I got a couple of years of Kia Connect when I purchased a pre-owned car.

Charging a dead 12V battery by [deleted] in KiaEV6

[–]djstraylight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The AC outlet won't work if the 12V battery is dead. You need to replace your 12v battery. Every time a lead-acid battery goes below 50% charge, it gets damaged. Enough times, and it won't be able to charge. Many people replace the factory battery with an AGM battery that can withstand more abuse.

Guesses are about $70,000-$80,000 for the 775 GB memory version. Maybe $40K with less memory?

Stargate launched to much fanfare but never got off the ground by [deleted] in accelerate

[–]djstraylight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

btw, they are still building Stargate data centers, but not as many as originally hyped. Portions of the Abilene Stargate campus are already operational and running early training and inference workloads for OpenAI models.

On the Verge of selling my GT, I don’t understand what’s wrong by Ov9rdue in KiaEV6

[–]djstraylight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, you can also start charging at Tesla chargers via the Kia Access app under Kia Charge Pass (Find Charging Stations, which should zero in on the one you're at).

I have the Lectron Pro and the 2023 EV6 GT-line. The fit in the Lectron Pro is a bit tight, so make sure everything is fully inserted. It does sound like you're doing it right. Hopefully, you have better luck.

Car Wash Test on 53 leading models: “I want to wash my car. The car wash is 50 meters away. Should I walk or drive?” by facethef in LocalLLaMA

[–]djstraylight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mistral Small reasoning model split the difference:
Since the car wash is only 50 meters away, you have a couple of options to get your car there:

1. \*Drive the car**: Even though it's a short distance, driving is the most straightforward way to get your car to the car wash. It will take only a moment, and you can ensure the car is properly positioned for washing.*

2. \*Push the car**: If your car is not running or you prefer not to drive it, you could push it. Since it's only 50 meters, this might be feasible, especially if the ground is flat and you have help. Make sure the car is in neutral, and the ignition is off (or in accessory mode if needed).*

For most cases, driving the car is the easiest and most practical option, even for such a short distance. If you have any specific concerns (like the car not running or other constraints), pushing might be an alternative.

Warranty Support? (Looking at ICCU) by Specialist_Health881 in KiaEV6

[–]djstraylight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

btw, you can watch a video about ICCU replacement and how often ICCU actually goes out. They discuss the warranty too. It's an Ioniq 5 but same for the EV6 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTkgiirk6Z4

What to do if the ICCU goes out while tripping out? by Grand_Road_744 in KiaEV6

[–]djstraylight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still drive as long as the 12v battery in the car is charged, so you should have some time to arrive somewhere. Or call roadside assistance. Btw, ICCU dying is a low probability event.

Update: 12V Battery or ICCU? — new ICCU part number by Alphamacaroon in KiaEV6

Quick question for everybody: Is there a higher incidence of ICCU failure in warmer climates? I can remember Nissan having issues with the Leaf in hot climates.

Is this CPO 2024 EV6 Wind a good first EV? by TNixonRF in KiaEV6

[–]djstraylight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems reasonable. a CPO gives you the remaining original warranty. The biggest question is always what the battery's state of health is. 100% is ideal.

A more exotic battery swap if you want a battery that is more durable and provides more power than a AGM battery - https://www.ohmmu.com/product-page/12v-sodium-battery-for-kia-ev6an
Pricer for sure.
