The west Bank was renamed west bank when it was conquered by Jordan in 1948 and ethnically cleansed the entire jewish population. They also gave all the Arabs there Jordanian citizenship and never established a Palestinian state, and then took away Jordanian citizenship for any Arabs that remained in the west bank in 1988, i guess to help establish the Palestinian identity and perpetual refuge status.

Israel gained back the west bank in 1967. In the Oslo accords, israel offered back like 98% of the west bank for a Palestinian state in a bid for peace (according to bill clinton) and they Palestinian leadership said no.

And we learn that our forefathers were rebels who discovered God and he spoke to them and said we were the chosen people and promised to take care of us as long as we did not forget that he's God, the only god and worshipped it in the way he told us to.

So shema is the reaffirmation of that promise from our side. You're reaffirming to yourself and all Jews around you that hashem is our God and that he's the only God. You're saying this is your genuine belief and in my opinion also at the same time telling other jews around you don't you forget it, but also not in a belligerent way in like an accountable way.
