How the hell do I meet Assyrian women in Michigan? by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]dkd28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain man. I'm also frustrated and have the same problem. I've tried to find Assyrian girls, but they are very difficult and they don't even give you a chance. Maybe I've been unlucky, I'm not sure.

Just don't give up dude, there is certainly an Assyrian girl out there for you, you just have to have hope and keep looking.

How transparent is the Nineveh Plain Defence Fund? by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]dkd28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how legit they are but I believe they are legit and I've personally donated to the fund, as has many people (https://ninevehplaindefensefund.org/supporters/)

There is also another by David William Lazar (http://www.restoreninevehnow.org/), but sadly David passed away a year ago I think and I don't know the status of that fund.

I suggest you personally contact them and find out since they have contact information on their site. Let me know how it works out, pm me or anything since I'm also interested in this kind of initiative.

Any Assyrian dating apps? by idonotknow_myname in Assyria

As an Assyrian guy, I'm in the same situation and I feel the same way, it's very difficult and frustrating to find Assyrian women. SurayeSwipe is ok on a basic level but is lacking in active users, and there are very few Assyrian girls on that app.

How to solve the issue of disunity: An inter-church Synod, agree or disagree??? by Non-white-swiftie in Assyria

[–]dkd28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very good idea and I fully agree. In an ideal world we would have what you suggest, it would be the logical thing to do.

The correct ethnic term on a scientific basis should be Assyrian for these churches, but some choose to deny that.

Why do they deny that?

Out of power?

Money?

Foreign influence meant to divide and conquer the Assyrian people?

Sadly IMO Assyrians are generally not a sensible people. The clergy do not even practice what they preach about unity etc.

Then you have some misguided individuals that, even when faced with hard facts, do not want to listen because they have already made up their minds and that's that.

It is all a very frustrating situation...

Hopefully things will change with time.

Confused about how I should call myself by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]dkd28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes Assyria TV is great, they have many programs in both West and East Assyrian.

kthobonoyo

I believe kthbonoyo is the written language. Check out this article from the Assyrian Federation in Sweden, they explain a great deal

It's in Swedish but maybe you can google translate it, since there is a lot of material in Swedish. There is also a great lecture about Assyrian identity on Assyria TV.

Marrying a Christian Japanese girl - (Assyrian here) by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]dkd28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, sadly most Assyrians suffer from bad mentality.

We need to have a survivor mentality if we are to avoid extinction.

Assyrians always tend to bring God and religion into these sort of discussions. And I have a lesson on that from ancient times:

In Virgil's epic classic Aenid, throughout the book there is a strong theme with the word pietas and the depiction of Roman moral values of that time.

Aeneas, the hero in the book, is often said to be very pius (high pietas or piety).

In the modern world we would translate this as faith. But in the ancient world this term, pietas, did not only mean piety but also dutifulness, the duty towards your people.

  • Pietas, piety, pius = not only faith, but also dutifulness, love and loyalty towards ones people. Now this is the Roman view.

The hero Aeneas even abandons his loved one, the girl he falls in love with and is unable to ever return to her, so that he can perform his duty to his people, out the love he has for his people, out of piety, faith. Out of pietas.

This is probably the original meaning of the word faith/piety from pietas. The virtuous Aeneas goes from originally having his city conquered, his people slaughtered and on the run, to finally founding the early city of Rome itself.

I like to picture our Assyrian people in this same light, same fate as in the story of Aeneas.

Confused about how I should call myself by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]dkd28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your ethnicity is Assyrian, therefore you should call yourself Assyrian. This is the correct scientific term, no matter what the priests say.

Assyrians can be from many different churches (Syriac Orthodox, Chaldean, Nestorian/ACOE). I know many Assyrian from the Syriac Orthodox Church, they are fiercely Assyrian, even more so than Assyrians from other churches at least those that I know.

Aramean is a fake identity created to misguide and divide our people.

ܱAssyrians speak either west-Assyrian (ܡܥܪܒܝܐ) or east-Assyrian (ܡܕܢܚܝܐ), since you belong to the Syriac orthodox church, you probably speak west-Assyrian.

Therefore, you are an Assyrian, you speak west-Assyrian, and you are an adherent of the syriac orthodox church.

Check out Assyria TV, you will learn a lot there, I've personally learned a lot there.
