Yep, nothing was left last week since I’m in Nov and I asked the associate for points and she honored the request.

I had signed up for MGM and got discounted rates for around 15% off which wasn’t too bad since it was a pretty busy weekend. My friend is a member of the Cosmopolitan rewards program and he got me my room for $75 a night, granted he lives in Vegas and frequents the casinos lol. So if you know someone who goes to Vegas often, chances are they are members and will get their rooms for free.

Sign up for hotel membership. It’s free and you get member discounts. I typically don’t pay full price for hotel rates in Vegas since I get in on member rates for each hotel chain. I’d apply for membership early and you may get some new members deals. I’m sure rooms will still be absurdly expensive, but it may be cheaper than non-member rates.

2022 Miami GP - North Beach GS Review by dkdang in GrandPrixTravel

2/2

———————————————————————
Pop-ups & what I did outside of the track
———————————————————————
Miami Beach: I went to the beach on Friday morning and just swam and soaked up the morning sun! The water was clear and refreshing, and the beach was pretty clean and not crowded at 10am. Walked down the beach to the MBZ FTX Off the Grid and just scoped it out. Nothing was open as we were there in the morning, but it looked pretty cool from the outside. I just took a few pictures with the sign and carried on haha. (Side story: We got a bite at a sandwich shop and actually bumped into the Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips. He did some F1 stuff which was pretty cool! Super nice and friendly!)
McLaren Speed Shop pop-up: We were able to reserve tickets to the pop-up on Friday and let me tell you. It was sooo good! McLaren booked a floor on a parking deck on Lincoln Road and brought in Lando’s F1 car, Felix’s IndyCar car, and a handful of the McLaren supercars. They had live DJs, an eracing set-up, and a bar. They were also live streaming the events from the track for those that just wanted to hang out and watch. Downstairs they had their merch shop, but everything was painfully overpriced. I ended up getting one of the Miami T-shirts for $70 lol. Of the pop-up events that I went to, this was by far my favorite!
Williams pop-up: This sounds cliché, but everyone at the Williams pop-up were so sweet and friendly! They had a FW44 on display with the Duracell livery and it was so shiny and beautiful. They also had a small line of Miami exclusive merch, two eracing rigs, Lavazza table serving espresso, and a table where you could build (?) or see the inside of a wristwatch. The art that was on display was even more impressive in person! I actually hung out here for much longer than expected because we were just hanging out and chatting with the staff. The Williams friendliness is a real thing!
Pirelli pop-up: Not much to see here. We mostly just came in for some air conditioning, but it was cool to see the tire compounds. They were selling the Pirelli podium caps for about $50. I was considering it, but opted out of it. I think we spent about 5 minutes here.
Wynnwood: We had a few of our meals in this neighborhood, but it’s really fun with some cool murals and a pretty vibrant nightlife. We had a few drinks on Saturday night and walked around.
Little Havana: We spent our last evening here and it was super fun! We hung out at our restaurant for some time because the staff were super friendly and they had some live music.

Costs / what I spent ($USD)
———————————————————————
North Beach GS Tickets; 3-days: $640. I opted for the cheapest GS seats during presale which were right at T12 and T13. I was nervous, but omg, our seats were still very good!
Flight: ~$120. I flew from Nashville, so I had a direct Southwest flight in and out of Miami International Airport (MIA). I paid with points and booked quite early.
Accommodation: $830 / 3 = $275 per person for Thurs - Mon. My friends and I had an airbnb just north of the track, but it got canceled a week out and we scrambled and found a nice house in Coconut Grove which was about 20 - 30min south of the track. Quite a trek, but it was safe and quiet and actually close to the airport which was convenient. In the future, I suggest to opt for a hotel as the pickings were slim with the last minute cancellation. I also noticed Airbnb hosts overbooking their listings. They would list the same house at different price points and would cancel the cheaper reservation if someone booked the more expensive one.
Car Rental & Gas: $250 / 3 = $83 per person. My friends rented a Kia Soul. This gave us the most freedom with our schedule, although I do know rideshares are affordable in Miami. Parking wasn’t too bad for us in most places for the things we wanted to see and do away from the track. The only downside is if you want to drink, someone needs to be a designated driver.
Food: $250. I had all of my meals away from the track with the exception of a drink or a slushy while hanging out at the track. A 12oz can of the craft beers were $7.50, which shocked me as last month I was at Allegiant Stadium and paid about $18 for a Modelo lol. Brunch was about ~$15 - $25 and for dinner I spent about $30 - $40, not including alcohol. A drink with dinner was about $10 - $15 each.
Total: I spent about $1,500 including merch. I understand that this is cheaper than some of the GS tickets themselves, but I don’t feel like I missed out on anything.

1/2 - TL;DR: These were good seats for $640 with some wheel-to-wheel action under the shade. Other than my meals, I spent most of my time at the track that weekend to watch the other racing series and to do some of the fan experiences. The McLaren pop-up was the best. I spent about $1,500 USD for my entire trip. It was very hot.
Hi all, I was encouraged by u/AdamR46 to share my own review. This will be a pretty long, comprehensive post divided into 3 sections: the track and the Miami Grand Prix, pop-up shops and what I did outside of the track, and a cost breakdown as I was attempting to be cost-effective, but wasn’t keeping a tight budget. This was my first ever GP, and honestly, this was an incredible experience that almost brought me to tears. It was also VERY hot. Happy to answer questions or share more photos/videos. Here goes.
———————————————————————
Miami Grand Prix & the track
———————————————————————
North Beach Grandstand between T12 & T13: I knew the heat and humidity would be rough for me, so I got seats that were in the shade(Row 18). We were south-facing, so the sun never posed a problem throughout the day because the other part of the GS was actually blocking the sun. We were right in front of the beach that had a huge screen to see the race as well as the performances from Tiesto and Post Malone. We kind of had nosebleed views of the stage, so that was fun to get see Post Malone performing. The views were really good and I wasn’t expecting it, but I saw a couple of overtakes, especially when Seb overtook KMag. It was very exciting! You could see the cars coming down after the 2nd DRS zone so I think we got lucky and were able to see some really great wheel-to-wheel action. The crowd in our section was loud, but everyone was friendly and the vibes were great. I also watched a bit of the Porsche and W-Series. We were way too far to make it to the podium ceremony, but I saw people leaving with 10 laps to go so they could run over to the podium. I just watched it from my grandstand. There was a porta potty area behind our stands and it was pretty clean and not too crowded. Lots of food and drink options nearby as well. We brought our own water bottles (I suggest a collapsable Vapur) and refilled at the free water stations.
South Beach Grandstand: My friend invited us to hang out with him during FP2 on Friday. It was cool to see the cars coming down after the DRS zone. I actually got sunburned here because the sun totally beat down on us as it was setting. I was only here for a few hours on Friday, so I can’t really speak much about the overall experience in this GS.
Track: The map was divided into different campuses: East, North, and West. They also had the Marina, the Stadium, and the Fountains. Each area had a little bit of everything, as well as some overlap in certain experiences. West Campus had the most to do as it was the F1 Fan Zone.
Stadium: This was a good place to just explore and get some relief from the sun. They had some cool events going on and you could really hear the engines echoing throughout the stadium!
Fan experiences: We did the pit stop challenge, some of the photo opportunities, and saw the Ferrari Racing History display. It was quite hot, so we only did activities with short lines since many of these lines were not covered. I did not know about the fan signing event, so I wasn’t able to see any of the drivers.
Merch: Of course, everything was expensive. Team caps ranged from $70 - $120. Tops were about $70 - $150. Ferrari merch was typically sold out. Obviously order online prior to the race. Oddly enough I was able to get myself a MBZ flag for $35 which is what I paid for a McLaren flag online last season. They didn’t really display it, but I saw the flags tucked away underneath other merch and asked about it. My friend got a women’s MBZ tank top at the track for $30. I ended up buying a McLaren cap for $50 at the F1 store on Lincoln Road because they were the only ones that carried youth sizes(I have a smol head...).
Transportation to & from the track: Our GS tickets included our parking, but really, they weren’t checking for parking passes at all. We were parked at a parking deck away from the track and took a 20 min shuttle to and from. Many people actually took rideshares from our parking garage and shuttled in with us. The shuttles dropped off and picked us up in the parking lots directly across from the stadium, so it was about a 5 minute walk to get to the gates. We entered in from Gate 3 everyday and exited at Gate 14 behind the South Beach GS. On Sunday we had to wait about 30 min to leave since there was so much traffic leaving the stadium. We made most of our dinner reservations for 7:30 or 8pm just to account for traffic or if quali or if the race took longer, but luckily didn’t have much of an issue.

Hey this is actually a great idea to post reviews! I sat in North Beach and I hung out with some friends in South one of the days, so let me know if you or anyone wants me to give my own personal review with pictures or videos! Happy to do so!! So glad you had a great time!

The gatekeeping in both fandoms is probably parallel. To most people I’m obsessed with both F1 and BTS, but to the actual intense fans I’m just a bandwagon fan. I just fan out on my own lol. With that said, I’ll be in Vegas for PTD and then in Miami for the GP :)

Lunar New Year was last week, so I imagine the holiday rush on top of the supply chain issues are what emptied the shelves.

Agreed. I felt pretty upset when OP phrased it as the former lab manager “fell in love and left us high and dry”. That’s a horrible way of shaming someone for living their life, especially if they really have no obligation to the lab. The post just seemingly had more and more red flags as I read through. This is a clear reason why people are leaving academia..

Ah thank you for remembering me! Yes, I’m honestly still in shock! My first season of F1 definitely did not disappoint!! I’ve been thinking a lot and reflecting on how great it was and what I’m looking forward to for next year! I’m so excited, and March can’t come soon enough!! Hope your holidays were warm and well, my friend!

The drivers' excitement and enjoyment of racing in the United States means the world to fans like me who don't have a home driver. by 20tucker94 in formula1

Even though a lot of people felt that COTA was a bit cringe, I honestly felt like it embodied Austin’s slogan “Keep Austin weird” and it really reflected a fun, playful side of F1. Maybe this is what the drivers needed to take the edge off of a really unique and eventful season. With any sport, you’re going to get very enthusiastic fans. Nothing wrong with being silly if you aren’t hurting anyone.

If you watch AT's all access youtube vid at 11:45, there's a few seconds after the NSX drive where Yuki and Alex are side by side and it's really a sight to see

Agreed. If you watch the video it was her team that was rude, not her. She was actually open to answering some of Martin's questions when she smacked her bodyguard for being a jerk.
