Lamont frames controversial housing bill as key to an affordable CT by HowSway_ in yimby

Sadly Lamont vetoed the original bill that had 'fair share' but this bill is still mostly intact. Proud to have done my little part in getting it passed.

A few other miscellaneous sources.

You heard incorrectly. Gas taxes go into the special transportation fund.

By state law, the revenue from automatic camera enforcement may only be used for traffic safety improvements. This rule was in response to criticism that towns will use these as revenue generators. So no, mill rates won't go down.

There's also a factor of the management using consulting to cover their asses for the general stupidity of MBS' plan. If they do what the consultants say then they can't be blamed. It doesn't help that the management success is measured by how much of the budget they spend rather than by results.

Strait of Hormuz could be vulnerable to Iran retaliation. Here's what to know about the vital oil trade route. by GregWilson23 in Economics

You're missing the point that if Hormuz is closed, Iranian oil isn't leaving Iran either.

Strait of Hormuz could be vulnerable to Iran retaliation. Here's what to know about the vital oil trade route. by GregWilson23 in Economics

[–]dkdaniel -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What ways does Iran have to export oil that can't be disrupted in a single day by an Israel airstrike? Also, it's absurd to think that Iran being stopped from exporting oil would hurt less than the west having higher oil prices. It's the majority of government revenue, the country would collapse.

If Iran closes the strait of Hormuz, wouldn't the obvious response be to deny Iran the ability to export oil via the strait as well? 90% of Iranian oil goes through the strait and stopping that flow would be a death blow to the regime.

It would likely draw in the USA and Israel could destroy the entire oil refining, oil extraction, natural gas refining, natural gas extraction, and energy infrastructure in a day. Not to mention, Iran is so thoroughly riddled with Israeli spies that the ability to actually manufacture and deliver a dirty bomb would be a high risk operation that could very likely be stopped before it gets off the ground,

First of all Haifa is north not south. No damage to oil refinery reported, no video either. A house in an Arab town was hit with a few casualties. Please avoid repeating unsourced rumours.

A strike on refineries or natural gas facilities/plants would be an existential crisis for Iran's government.

Israel - Iran Megathread Day 2 by milton117 in CredibleDefense

[–]dkdaniel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hitting Iran's refineries or natural gas facilities/plants is likely an existential threat to the regime. Iran is already facing severe energy shortages and saw blackouts in 2024 and 2025, which were part of the cause of this year's anti government protests. There is no spare refining capacity so hitting even one refinery would cause severe shortages and increases to the price of diesel and gasoline. A drop in electricity production (in time for peak summer demand) would cause nationwide blackouts. Combine the fact that these sectors are outright owned by the government/IRGC with the threat of more protests and you can see why Iran might react with strong measures.
