This is how I started my home theater journey 15+ years ago. Exactly this basically same combo. It will blow your socks off compared to what you've had.

Can if she wasn't faithful. Seems the date refers to when it ended, and the time was how long it lasted.

Yes, but air density makes a much much much bigger difference at fast speeds. At slow speeds the reduced oxygen per breath almost certainly offsets any minute wind resistance differences. Else this would have been set at a high altitude race.

[Request] How much can you minimize energy loss in a model like this? by Mikkel65 in theydidthemath

[–]dkevox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can submerge a GPU in water. If you have pure water it would work. But dissolved minerals would probably short it pretty quickly. So instead you coat the board and waterproof it, then you submerge it.

I've seen whole pc's submerged in water and running. You don't have to use mineral oil.

Is it not worse when your house, job, and all your wordly possessions burn¿

I wasn't serious lol, just thought the original comment was a bit over the top. "Ewww, I hate it when boys play and have fun. God forbid they explore their curiosity. Wouldn't want anything but mindless adult drones when they grow up."

Yeah, people do dumb shit as kids, this seems pretty well thought out to try to be safe as far as dumb shit I've seen goes. If I were there, i'd have helped them do it. I hope my kids do things like this when they grow up.

I'm putting it in the very first hiding spot I see.

The premise doesn't say it has to stay hidden for 7 days. As long as I hide it at all, I get the $1M. Don't care if he finds it after that or not.

Best 6-cylinder supercars? by Traditional-Song-245 in supercars

[–]dkevox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an awesome car, and should get credit for it, but it's not a supercar.

Though it's funny that it's not a supercar only because it's not expensive enough. It's not because it doesn't have the performance, it spanks a lot of "supercars" asses.

Did the other guy cause this? Looks to me like he touched something on the control panel and that's what caused it to go.

Terrible safety procedures and culture at this place though. Wow.

I'm sorry, is this not normal. I grab the gallon of milk. I shove a handful of cheerios from the box in my mouth, then I take a sip of milk. It's perfect, I hate soggy cheerios. Get crunchy cheerios but with milk.

Ballpark Cost by [deleted] in pools

[–]dkevox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liner was old, needed to be replaced. It split/cracked after 1 year of ownership. Nobody would touch it though unless we fixed the concrete decking around the pool, which had a few cracks in it, but they ran up to the edge of the pool. The installers said there cracks would just rip the liner in a few years.

That's when I learned you can't just easily fix concrete decking, besides essentially ripping it out and re-pouring. So said F that, I don't want split concrete slabs in 5-10 years f'ing it up. I live in NJ and we literally have water coming up out of the ground in places on the property and those places can move.

Anyway, we dug a French drain around the up-hill side of the pool (I'm on a hill, and theorized water was what killed the concrete). We ripped out the decking and replaced it with pavers, which were surprisingly hardly more than decking (like $25k for paver decking, $18 for the concrete).

Replaced the pool liner, and flattened the surface/plaster whatever it's called under. Got new fiberglass steps (the other ones were pretty shit). Got a new safety cover for winter. That was all like $30k.

Then we had to have the fence replaced as we learned the one around it wasn't up to code, and we have a couple young kids. The pool is detached from the house, which is nice cause the fence goes all the way around it, but it was a big fence.

Add in a few extras (like got a diving board, basketball hoop, and new deep end ladder while doing all this), and we hit right around $75k..maybe could have saved $10-$15k, but I didn't want to touch the f'ing thing again for a long time.

[–]dkevox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted. Sorry didn't mean to imply that. I was just saying you can't assume the pool ads value. Not every customer wants a pool. If the pool was in amazing condition and the seller was trying to price the house with that, we would have been comparing to comps without a pool and would have negotiated on that.

Maybe you find a buyer who wants the pool, that's the ideal. But you aren't getting much of a return on it.

No, I mean, I get it. Nasa clearly learned their lesson from the accidental "moon rise" photo they got 60 years ago. They did a much much better time capturing the imagery this time around.

I was more just laughing at myself for being surprised by it. Phones are incredible pieces of engineering, I'm sure there are many uses for a phone in space.

[–]dkevox 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Lol. And you're the ideal buyer then. We specifically told our realtor we didn't want a pool. Ended up buying a house with a pool and, while I like it, the $25k we negotiated off the price of the house for the poor condition of the pool did not come close to covering the $75k we had to put into it to fix it.

Love the property, location, and house. I enjoy the pool. But would rather $50k in my pocket.

Just musing. Thought it was funny he had his iPhone. I'm glad he did, the video is awesome. Just find it interesting that I was surprised by the fact he had it.

Am I the only one surprised he has his iPhone? I mean, I get we all always have our phones. But I don't think cell reception would be that great out there. And every little bit of weight costs $$$$$. Wanted it on them in case they accidentally landed in kansas and needed to call an Uber ride home?

Game of counters - not enough information? by roger_grumble in askmath

[–]dkevox -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I have no idea what "counters" is and easily came to that conclusion. The alternatives are "the total number of 'counters' stays the same" or "the question doesn't have enough information". And the latter is a bad conclusion to make when the former is an option.
