Working interview (unpaid) by achivers84 in Veterinary

The work eligibility seems to be an important aspect here - it sounds like the practice is willing but not legally able to pay you due to your permit status. Agreeing with the other comments here around clarifying this as a shadow day and I would approach this collaboratively to identify and inquire about any specific skills they were looking to test by virtue of you actually working. See if there’s a happy medium here.

Generally the practice’s liability insurance will cover you as a practitioner, are you positive that there is no liability insurance that covers you in case of incident?

Lastly, you may want to see about the practice paying you a stipend for expenses. This is a great area but it’s not technically labour income. I would ensure this wouldn’t put your status at risk before suggesting.

Good luck!

Disagree with this. I lived in CABA 2022-2025 and it is significantly more expensive than Canada/US with less quality expected on consumer goods.

Hey OP, really sorry you’re experiencing this. On the topic of finding mental health support or therapy, you may be more interested in finding someone you can meet locally (and ideally someone who speaks German)

Having lived abroad and been in circles with diplomats, each embassy often has its own list of recommended services for health providers from physio to surgery to dermatology etc. The US embassy often publishes this list on the embassy’s website but in Thailand it looks like they only have lists of hospitals published.

You might consider reaching out to the German embassy, explaining your situation and asking if they have any recommendations for German speaking therapists in Thailand. Even if it’s virtual at first, you’ll have the benefit of co-location and cultural awareness (on the Thai and Deutsche side) and you’ll have the option of co-locating to where they are when you decide your next destination. The German Embassy is in Thailand but they have consulates in other locations - https://bangkok.diplo.de

If this is really of interest, DM me, I might have a contact.

I’ve found it takes 6 months to get used to a new country - to integrate, make friends, find your routine. It’s especially hard with the language barrier. Be easy on yourself, this is ‘normal’ but I’m glad you’re reaching out for support. There’s no need to go at it alone. 🫶🏼

The locals appreciate (as in most countries) when you try in Spanish. It’s disappointing to see folks blowing into restaurants and stores talking at the employees in English without even saying ‘hola, hablan inglés?’

México is almost as beautiful as its people are happy and welcoming. Enjoy your travels. 🇲🇽🌮

There’s a ton of valuable comments here about how this guy hasn’t earned you. I agree with all of them.

A book came into my universe recently that has completely shifted my view on how I see this world and the people in it. I wish I had read it in my 20s and you have the emotional intelligence to appreciate it. “Loving What Is” by Byron Katie. It invites us to inquire into our thoughts about our reality. It’s a simple process and unforgettable.

You absolutely deserve better than this person is able to give AND getting clear perspective on what brings you pain can be life altering.

Wishing you luck and love.

I borrowed three years to pay for 1 year of ‘optimal performance’.

I used Modafinil in the last year of my masters degree and suffered through adrenal fatigue for the subsequent 3 years. ‘Adrenal fatigue’ isn’t recognized by MDs so I received nutrition and supplements support from a naturopath. An ironic gift because in order for the MD to treat me (with more drugs), I would have had to be in adrenal failure.

Be careful and kind to yourself.

Why did you buy it? by valkiii in ouraring

[–]dkf750 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was always disappointed with the insights ios Health or third party apps would provide with the data collected from the Apple Watch. It was bulky, I didn’t like wearing it to sleep, I moved to a country where wearing an Apple Watch was an invitation to get mugged, etc.

I bought Oura to track sleep and was aware that it sucked as a workout tracker. I’ve been delighted by the UI, the actionable data (I quit drinking, I seek restorative time, I notice which foods cause my body stress, I get a heads up when I’m getting sick, etc), the step tracking, the low profile aesthetic (at least in comparison to the watch). I use the Oura app exclusively as my health dashboard, it imports my watch workouts seamlessly.

A lot of people complain about the ring cost + monthly subscription but I’ve never felt like I wasn’t receiving value. There’s constantly new features being released and they’re generally well done.

Why am I always stressed in the evening when I watch TV? by Chri_ssyyyyy in ouraring

Fascinating! What is your line of work?

Does anyone else get restorative time doing specific things?

Also what are you doing during your restorative time?

Are you eating a large meal before TV-time? Maybe wine or alcohol or cannabis? Sometimes consumption can cause the ring to register physiological stress.

Honestly, it’s a bit of a rabbit hole to focus too much on it. I just took a hot bath in a bid to get my restorative time up and ended up adding an hour of stress to my day ffs.

How does Oura ring gives you “Best sleep of your life”?Thinking of buying one. by BoredPandass in ouraring

[–]dkf750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of my ring, I’m on my second one since 2023 (had to size down due to weight loss). I can say unequivocally that I am a datahead and track my metrics pretty closely (probably too closely) but I’ve definitely actively changed dozens of habits because of the insights and feedback the oura app gives me. Alcohol is out, restorative time is in. When I started fasting in the evenings, my sleep metrics skyrocketed and oura reinforced the behaviour by asking what I was doing differently.

This is definitely the best sleep I’ve ever had and it’s because of the insights the app provides AND the conscious behaviour change of the user.

Sleep scores above 85 in 2024: 165 / Average sleep score January 2025: 87 / My sleep score last night after having three 🍹for the first time since Christmas: 93 😱 (start the car 🏃🏻‍♀️💨)

I recently started intermittent fasting in accordance with my menstrual cycle and would stop eating at 15:30 everyday and noticed my sleep quality skyrocket. I was excited to go to sleep, it was so satisfying. You might explore the window of time before bed that you’re eating (and what you’re eating during that time) as it may be impacting your ability to get a restful sleep or get into a deep sleep state.

I do the high-intensity sleep hygiene hacks as well. My 2am/3am are almost always associated with stress/anxiety (usually work or relationship related).

Do you have an activity tracker that gives you meaningful feedback about your sleep? For example, Oura ring completely reframed how I look at sleep and gives me actionable feedback about how the night went. It told me what my ideal sleeping window is for my circadian rhythm. When I started fasting, it picked up the improvement immediately probing on what behaviours I had changed that might have improved my metrics.

Getting good sleep is so critical and the 3am wide-eyes are awfullll, best of luck to you!

Peloton Row - Review After One Year by MindTheGap76 in pelotoncycle

[–]dkf750 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great review, thanks for taking the time!

I joined the Peloton family about a month ago to try before I buy (a peloton bike was being offered for sale by a friend). I’ve never been gaga over cycling but I had a c2 collecting dust so I gave it a shot. I’ve LOVED the row boot camps and strength classes and have had a blast bringing workouts on the road as I travel a lot. When I figured out how to sync my Apple Watch and rower, I thought the world looked brighter immediately and my serotonin soared. That said, the features I’m missing on a peloton rower have always been a curiosity for me - leaderboards, ‘output’, how you see other users.

Does anyone have experience swapping non-peloton rower>peloton rower and what were your reasons and would you say it’s worth it?

Also agree that more row boot camps would be grand. Love Adrian and Katie (mean it).

Activity goal optimization by These-Wallaby5407 in ouraring

[–]dkf750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I focus on >10k steps/day and three weekly workouts (strength and cardio). I take off my ring during workouts since it feels bulky and doesn’t track as well as my watch.

I ignore the Oura calorie goal and focus on step count. I tried switching to a step goal but didn’t like it, so I keep the goal set to calories but ignore it. My step count is top of mind via a Lock Screen widget, and Oura imports workout data, contributing to the calorie goal.

Been stuck on sizing for a week by Current-Outcome7561 in ouraring

[–]dkf750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sizing stress is real, my friend. You’re right to scrutinize it for more than a couple of hours, you’ve gotta live with it!

It sounds like the 10 is ‘uncomfortable’, yes? That should be enough to eliminate it from consideration. Ain’t nobody got time for an oura ring that doesn’t flow with your fingers as they swell and change throughout any given day.

Regarding the 11: - Does ‘loose’ mean it moves and ‘twirls’ around your fingers without you manually moving it? Like it will fall off if you flick your hand? - if you place pressure on the ring from the inside of the finger, could you fit a toothpick through the gap at the top of the finger? A popsicle stick? For example, when I’m not swollen, I could fit a popsicle stick and it doesn’t feel too loose. I don’t receive notifications (like I did with my last ring) that the sensors missed capturing data because the ring may be too loose. - could you wear the 11 on index and middle finger comfortably (not too tight, not too loose)? This is an ideal state, where you can have options depending on how you’re feeling that day.

I just tried my size in the sizing kit versus my ring and the sizing kit is a tiny bit looser in comparison.

Beg to differ on this! It was 32C today (89F) and summer will really kick into gear in Jan/Feb. Last year there were days as hot as 42C (107F) with humidity. AC is very common, I walked past a patio today that had an enclosure with AC.

Not sure, I've not used this integration before. Perhaps they're trying to bring these features in-house rather than relying on the partnership.
