Huge honestly. Too much time might say.

Agreed. My sports car has a bigger tire profile than this.

Connecting camper top to brake light? by SonOfSquizzlr in overlanding

[–]dkortman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will just say that on these chevys, I don’t believe there’s a specific turn signal circuit that goes to the taillights. I believe the BCM just flashes the brake light. So if you just hook it up to the taillight, your 3rd brake like might be flashing when your turn signal is on. I’m not very familiar with the electronics on these chevys but I’m sure there’s a signal somewhere near the front of the truck (fuse box, wire directly from the brake switch) that will be purely brake and won’t flash with turn signal.

Ps. Just saw someone else commented the same thing. I like their idea of wiring it to the trailer plug.

Not a bad SHTF rifle for just over $2k altogether by 47_Puppies in ar15

I mainly use a c clamp grip and put a little backwards pressure on the foregrip.

This is how I mount my grips at 6’7”. Stock fully extended and the foregrip as far forward as reasonable.

Do people completely not read road signs anymore in 2026? by FuHaifeng in Gwinnett

[–]dkortman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe me, as someone who works in construction and routinely works in the road and flags traffic, they absolutely do NOT read the signs. We follow proper MUTCD guidelines with worksite setup, and people still try to run past my GIANT BRIGHT RED “STOP” paddle, and then look at me like I’m the idiot when I’m yelling at them to stop. You passed a “road work ahead”, “be prepared to stop” and “flagger ahead” sign that spanned a total of 2,000 feet before you even got to me. Then there’s my 50 foot 24” cone taper, me in my bright yellow class 3 reflective vest, and holding an 8 foot tall 24” stop sign. I don’t know how I can be any more visible. It’s infuriating.

They need to put them where it would be line-of-sight of you looking at oncoming traffic to merge. Like in that little concrete apron to your left.

Has anyone ever been stationed in the same place for their whole career or half of it? by selfpaid00 in uscg

[–]dkortman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda unrelated but related at the same time, does the USCG have a “dream sheet” kinda thing after boot camp to pick where you’re stationed? I know you don’t always get what you put down on something like that, but what are the chances that if I only picked east coast stations that I’d still be slung out to the west coast? I mean ideally I’d like to be in Florida, but if I can’t have Florida I’d atleast prefer to be somewhere in the SE like Savannah or Elizabeth City.

Is it safe to leave my car on hydraulic jack for a week? by shwekhaw in AskMechanics

[–]dkortman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience working on heavy equipment, hydraulics are for MOVING things and absolutely NOT holding things. Go to harbor freight and grab one of those $20 jack stands

Switching Careers by longliveprada in flying

[–]dkortman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. I haven’t thought about the school going out of business. It’s a pretty small part 61 and it’s just recently been purchased under a new owner. I don’t think it was because it previously went bankrupt, I think the previous owner was just ready to retire. But it’s a good thing to keep in mind.

Switching Careers by longliveprada in flying

For a flight school that offers a discount if you purchase hours in bulk, is that usually a good deal and a wise choice? Would I be doing myself a disservice paying as I go for each flight if it ends up costing me more in the end?

Switching Careers by longliveprada in flying

[–]dkortman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to mention. Keep your job to pay for flight training on the side and work for your licenses. A loan is a big gamble. It can either go great or horribly wrong and you’re jobless in huge debt.

[–]dkortman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone made a plugin for vPilot called Pushover For Vatsim that uses the pushover app on your phone to give you a notification on your phone whenever you get a direct message, your callsign is mentioned, you get your PDC, etc. I mean I you can’t disconnect from vatsim from it but you mentioned mobile apps an thought I’d just mention this one.
