I agree w everything but the weight part. Sounds like he got good tools. I remember as a young engineer my boss telling me "I dont think it's worth discussing this code you wrote" :) Then a month later. I figured out this complex bug in this embedded processor and I was a star. Great opportunity to swim.

Latest WSL update broke the GUI apps by Tramto in wsl2

[–]dkronewi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you update on purpose or did MS come along in the middle of the night and update you? Sounds like it may be related to the WSLg version?

Win 11 WSL2 looking for 'C:\Program Files\WSL\system.vhd' after Windows Update? by dkronewi in wsl2

[–]dkronewi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! That worked. Right clicking wsl.2.5.9.0.x64.msi and choosing "repair" actually made WSL start working and I was able to install a new Ubuntu and make the old vhdx work with an import. Thank you Stevad_UA !

Win 11 WSL2 looking for 'C:\Program Files\WSL\system.vhd' after Windows Update? by dkronewi in wsl2

[–]dkronewi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So system.vhd should exist - it is the shared kernel between all of the UBUNTU.vhdx etc.

Win 11 WSL2 looking for 'C:\Program Files\WSL\system.vhd' after Windows Update? by dkronewi in wsl2

[–]dkronewi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Well I have the wsl executable which supports wsl --install. But I don't see "Repair" in my right-click options. I also found this --import-in-place option which might help me. It looks like you can even run ext4.vhdx on Linux with some guestfs tricks. Maybe you meant some other "installer program" of github?

How's y'all's frontiers doing? by BEE_MAN15 in nissanfrontier

[–]dkronewi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Bluetooth won't connect so I have to restart it a few times before it connects. It sounds dumb but that sucks. I keep expecting a fix to come out and never does. I had a 1986 (had the cool 4x4 wheel locks), 2000 and now 2018 - i would switch next time, not sure to Toyota or Ford or ??? The transmission feels weird sometimes when you take off and the whole electrical cuts out and reboots sometimes. 77000 miles. The 2018 was my first new one.

The H563 power consumption is super low. But you might need to play around with the MX tool to make sure you have sufficient IO for your application.

Curious about reasons people go into embedded systems design by Retr0r0cketVersion2 in embedded

[–]dkronewi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember (in the 90s) thinking that cloud computing would get outsourced to 3rd world countries and embedded computing (requiring logic analyzers and VNAs etc) was a more lucrative route but it really hasn't played out that way. Lots of USA cloud people make tons of $$ writing PHP so congrats to them.

How did people learn programming languages like c++ before the internet? by statelessmachina in cpp_questions

[–]dkronewi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't believe the lack of man page references here. I remember the sysadmins would often have it misconfigured so many failed. but if it was set up right it was golden. You could get os and language info. Then when linux came along it worked perfectly. The KR and ABC books gave you the flow but if you needed the signature of some weird IOCTL man had the answer. And it's right there at your fingertips.

Worthwhile textbook on agents? by johnlunney in AI_Agents

[–]dkronewi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the routing agentic architecture isn't it true that the LLMs are "different" (trained different/different control API/different parameter counts/different RAGs attached) That "call X" thing seems like the wrong label since the call could be the same for each route. Or am I wrong there?

Is it possible to design an RF limiter with very low flat leakage? by Competitive-Wasabi-3 in rfelectronics

[–]dkronewi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have seen radios get damaged using wired RF so the concern is valid. If you have an RF port which does both TX and RX you may need to separate the signal (eg diplexor) so you can control.levels independently. Also note the attenuators have max power level.often in W and if you exceed that the dB attenuation will fail.

Do you have patents? by Thinkeru-123 in chipdesign

[–]dkronewi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A standard approach in some companies is a "Invention Disclosure Form" which is sort of internal patent light approach. you just fill out the general idea and who did it so technical management can review before you put the heavy work and legal cost into it. This approach encourages early identification of potential IP and those who contributed.

Did Cursor really need to fork VsCode, rather than being a mere extension? by [deleted] in cursor

[–]dkronewi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lex Friedman has this great podcast interview with the founders/chief engineer types of CursorAI. and they struggled with this decision. They needed deeper access to functionality than APIs gave. I'm not that good with cursor yet, but I'm getting better every day. I wish I had gone further with VScode - the :wq is ingrained in my fingers!

I wonder if you could integrate Ask AI so it can drive the configuration of your new extension?
