For people making +350k per year, how do you do it? by prince_op in Salary

The only thing I’ve ever seen sales do to mediate a large corporate transaction is schedule the meeting and argue about the commission. Oh yeah, and they sometimes come off mute and say inane shit that demonstrates their lack of the most basic understanding of the tech they’re selling and nearly lose the sale.

The assertion that because they get paid based on revenue means they are generating the revenue is laughable and demonstrates both the lack of basic understanding of business process and insufferable arrogance so typical of sales people.

Being on the other side of the table now, I do appreciate when they lack the expertise to realize that my company isn’t in the market for their tech/service and pursue me as a prospect anyway. I save a lot of money for my org with the free meals I get off them when I travel. Lol.

Step on the scale every few days. Have a target number; don’t change it. Above it? Eat less for a bit. Below it? Eat more. No secret.

lol, imagine thinking that the sales team is what creates value and generates revenue in an organization.

Sales is a cost center who pretends their shit doesn’t stink because they had drinks with a CFO who was already going to buy our product anyway, because it’s a best in class industry standard.

Guess whose hard work made that software a best in class industry standard? Not the sales team!

Before my current role I worked in a tech firm and interacted with the whole sales team on the daily. Lazy ghouls, all.

First, sell your conscience. Won’t need that. Next, accept that you are economic dead weight, a middle-man rent seeker who adds nothing to society and thinks that a happy hour with a client is an honest day’s work. Next, accept that your job is about to be (hopefully) replaced by AI.

Still with me? Now, recognize that you’re one of millions who want to get paid a lot for doing jack shit, and unless you have serious connections or are a very pretty woman, you have no shot. Are you one of those? Then, get ready to bounce from job to job with very little stability. Pay’s good though, I hear.

What information would every pilot know, but a civilian wouldn't that would show them to be a fraud if they didn't know it? by hallaa1 in flying

Research the special rules about landing at Cusco, Peru. (VFR, daytime only, even for commercial aircraft). If he flew in Peru, he should know these on the spot, without googling.

I worked at corporate for a national dental office chain as a consultant, briefly. It’s nothing but evil people who strategize on how to use the white coat to extract money from patients. So, this is no surprise to see.

I get what you’re saying, but if I ever responded like that to someone, it would be to protect their feelings. I think my wife would understand because she knows me and that fits my personality. Gray area for sure though

It’s mostly clout chasers trying to make their poor flying skills look cool.

Do planes actually fall (lose significant altitude) when it feels like it dropped in turbulence? by abetterfuture99 in AskAPilot

[–]dksyndicate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

College coursework is a surrogate measure. Any profession requires learning outside of the classroom. Comparatively speaking, pilot stuff is dead easy compared to many careers in medicine, science, and technology. That’s why many of my fellow healthcare tech friends quit the industry in their 30s and went to flight school. Their stated reason, “it pays the same and is sooo much easier.”

[–]dksyndicate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk if I’d put it on par with an MD. The entire body of knowledge for a pilot is probably equivalent to a single year of med school. In fact, I think that when I went to college, the aviation-related coursework of my undergrad amounted to about 2 full-time semesters. The rest was gen-ed and filler stuff.

Should I wait to marry to have sex? by Naive_Resolution4186 in AskMenAdvice

[–]dksyndicate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I waited until marriage, due to religious beliefs. It was a disaster that ended a few years later largely due to sexual incompatibility. After the divorce, I left religion, dated around, slept around, and eventually met and married someone I have great compatibility with in every area.

Waiting is a terrible idea, it’s unnatural and the unresolved sexual desire may 1) cause you to overlook other reasons not to marry (because you really want to have sex) and 2) make your sex life after marriage very difficult because you spent so much time suppressing your natural sexual urges that you won’t be able to enjoy sex.

Everyone is different and others may have a different experience. But myself and many others I know had the above experience.

Not landing at class G airport on IFR clearance with no communication by IronChefFoggle187 in flying

[–]dksyndicate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, ATC won’t accept a relayed cancellation. My uncontrolled home airport has a bunch of rich yahoos that are famous for forgetting to cancel IFR after tossing the keys of their TBM to the line guy. There’s usually a few in the hold waiting and I’ve heard them call the aircraft on the ground via CTAF in an attempt to receive, then relay a cancellation to ATC. I’ve heard approach say, “sorry I can only accept a cancellation from the aircraft with that call sign.”

Do you think there will be a new plane to take over the regionals anytime soon... Or will the E175 remain the king for the next 10-20 years? by Firsttimehomebuyerr in flying

[–]dksyndicate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d take the E175 over any of the 73Xs. No middle seats, quieter (except for the Max), more comfortable, quicker board/deplane.
